I must say...I cannot wait to see more about the AFM for the flanker. WOW!! Just imagine...that ED render where the flanker taxis more realistically than the current DCS world. :D WHEE!! :D

Amazing job Cato. :) BTW...are fire effects part of 1.2.5 or am I missing some new files from my install?
-
BTW....to steer away a bit, did anyone notice the new fire fx for aircraft in the new FC3 trailer? Is it just me or my 1.2.4 installation still shows me the old bitmap fire effect for jets.

Advanced Flight Model - (AFM). What actually is it?
Witchking replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Welll hopefully, SFM won't exist in DCS World by the time it hits 2.0. Choppers already have a very nice flight model in comparison to the aircraft. Can't wait for that day when every FC3 aircraft has AFM. -
The Su25 already has AFM and the A-10A will be getting AFM in the future as part of FC3. I would assume the Mig and Su33 may be updated in due course again for a price....which is absolutely fair as they need funds and they cannot give everything away for free.

Friday Update Appreciation Thread
Witchking replied to VincentLaw's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I agree too. Thanks for all the updates ED team. We can't wait to see more. Thanks for hearing our feedback and finally granting us better than what we wanted...instead of a dynamic landing model, you are giving is a complete AFM. Now get to work and pls post some time soon that you are also updating the mig and the sea flanker. LOL! :p -
As someone who pre-purchased FC3, I would gladly pay like 15$ each for F-15 and Su27 AFM. I understand that development means more work and the people at ED need to get paid to support their own lives. I agree, we can't expect everything for free. Unfortunately, that is the reality of our niche hobby....they are not developers with 100s of team members who can get a lot of things done. Its a very small team (I would imagine) compared to the team that develops Battlefield or Assassin's creed.

I think a simple landing test will clarify the issue... If it magnetically sticks to the runway ...not yet.
-
I don't think so...I haven't seen that in any of the updates since it was announced. If I fly the A-10, I generally fly the C variant now....just a lot more capability and a lot more fun.

The Su25/25T got new AFM as a seperate module...that was called Flaming cliffs 1...the unofficial addon for LOMAC. ED were nice enough to update the pit in 1.2.4 to meet community demands. A-10A is getting AFM because its simply a porting over of the same physics model from the A-10C to the A-10A...although there is a lot of work involved with its simplification to match the lack of avionics in the simple FC version. The flanker and eagle the same thing, to meet community demands they updated everything. But perhaps after all the nagging about "Improved landing/takeoff dynamics"... they realized they can only accomplish that with AFM which is certainly the way forward, they decided to re-tread the original flaming cliffs route. I think most here would not have a problem if they had reserved the 3d updates to external and cockpit upgrades to this actual eagle and flanker module. Stop complaining... I am glad ED is finally bringing out AFM for the FC3 flyables. Now it will only be the Mig 29 and Su 33 left in the dark ages. We can only hope that they manage to finish off the package with those upgrades sometime soon. Wait for the price before you decide anything...we clearly only know its been announced but nothing else. Later on whether you think its worth the purchase, thats your choice.

I think this is why ED don't talk a lot more about their upcoming products, because of how much people complain to and fro about every decision they make. I am sure ED is smart enough to know how to deal with their FC3 customers. They went far enough to extend development and get us all the 6dof cockpits we wanted for FC3. We all complained about the landing model being terrible and the requirement of lock on...and they are addressing that with this semi-fidelity aircraft. Being an independent publisher, remember that ED knows their finances and is able to project sales way better than what a single customer here can say. So just chill and wait for this to pan out before we freak out.
-
I must honestly say though...I am in one way glad that this is happening. I love DCS A-10C...because I love the A-10...but it was almost a turn off to learn starting the aircraft. It was too much work. I still use quick start cheat. But...I learnt the weapon management system because I love the aircraft and I still think its amazing. But even during FC / lockon days, I loved the detail level of the Su25/25T....still simple enough to employ the aircraft systems, but have detailed flight models and nice landing models.
-
Thanks a lot for all the suggestions everybody. I'll play around with the settings and keep you guys posted with updates. DCS A-10 was way more easier. I just needed time to learn the avionics.

Well...its no way that ubi can own the rights to the aircraft or that combination of aircraft. I would get their legal team to exactly iron out what it takes to get rid of ubi. I mean...the new Georgia terrain is not from lock on. The engine itself is updated beyond lock on...or else it would have to be ubi presents dcs a-10c. The old models can be relatively easily be updated. Throw out the sfm code and remodel the lock on aircraft with new afm code and assets...why can't they dislodge the lock on branding? Unless...they are deliberately keeping lock on name to bring back those old casual players who recognize and remember lock on. So in that case... They are doing this to hang on to an established brand that was marketed by a big name publisher. ED may have wanted to buy back lock on brand from ubi, but may be unable to make that move financially...so they may be stuck with it. I agree...i think flaming cliffs is not ubi property..its probably 1c or ed themselves.

Hi guys, OMG! I thought the shark was harder to fly. This thing is sooo finicky. I can hardly even fly up without it doing a tail spin on me. I am trying to keep the left pedal pushed in a bit and the stick pulled back a little to the left, but still...I cannot take off and fly without going out of control. And talk about landing this baby.... holy crap.... once I hit the rotor wash from the ground, thats game over. and even during flying, I cannot help but have the chopper just go uncontrollably down or bow back up. Crazy crazy difficult. I have more respect for chopper pilots now. lol! Any tips or suggestions? thanks, V

I agree though...the thought of being independent without Lock on and standalone as DCS WORLD is a good idea and financially sound for the future of ED. I just hope that they don't complicate and alienate the existing FC3 owners (us) by having like 2 different versions of Lockon/FC quality eagle and flankers. I think the idea we came up with....separate all FC aircraft with updates and throw away the Lock on name. Maybe keep flaming cliffs...so Flaming cliffs: Su-25/T, FC: Su27, FC: Su33, FC: Mig29S and FC: F-15C. That way they reserve some of the old brand name. Does anyone know if ED has to pay royalties to ED from the sales of FC3? Or is it just a contractual obligation and Ubisoft are just content from any sales of Lock on alone?

Nostalgia for the Old Flanker Heads...
Witchking replied to Shepski's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
If you guys want nostalgia from the last 10 years...watch this: 5m647SXqlog I remember seeing this in my grade 12 high school and I lost my mind...was blown away by the graphics. What a huge difference it is compared to FC3...but at the same time...look at how similar the terrain is. -
I think it would be nicer just to release a 29.99$ package to update the Mig and Su33 as I said....and just add AFM to all the FC3 aircraft. Then, release all aircraft separately at like 15.99$. That would seem to make a lot more sense. I think what ED is shooting for here is to get loose of the Lock on chains. By releasing these old aircraft separately with updates, they can finally skip lock on limitations.
-
I thought the DCS name is reserved for high fidelity aircraft. Also...personally, if they want to release them, I hope its discounted for FC3 owners. Or else, all we will be getting is AFM for 2 jets. So unless its less than 10$, hopefully they re-assess their strategy and also update the other FC aircraft in the process..i.e., the mig and the sea flanker. Then we can have a full stable of Su25T level of aircraft.

HDR with a 'D' like Dynamic for DCS 1.2.4
Witchking replied to PeterP's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I think its working great. haven't noticed anything buggy so far. -
I do not like 6DOF cockpit, I can re-use old 2D cockpit?
Witchking replied to hx5791's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
wow...its like people complaining that battlefield graphics are too good...so they should scale it down to battlefield 2 level so that people with older PCs (Pentium 4 era) can play it. I understand about playability..but as previously said...just means its time for an upgrade...but a shitty reason to stop progress. Just IMO. -

Fantastic job Peter. Thanks :) -
Inspite of changing the Z axis to move head forward/backward... the HUD is still zoomed when you move back in the cockpit...
