  1. It's not quite the same Avon engine though, the one fitted to the Saab has a bit more thrust than the one fitted to the Lightning. There was also a prototype RR engine made that was to replace the Avons in the Lightning that had a good bit more thrust to it but the project got cancelled and the engine was scrapped. There was a lot that could have been done to upgrade the lightning but the govt. at the time did not want to spend money on manned fighters as the future was rockets and missiles. There was also an upgraded radar ready to be fitted but again the project got cancelled, BAC had proposed fitting AIM 9 sidewinders to the Lightning and had done a lot of the preliminary work to fit them to the F.Mk6, it was English Electric and BAC that funded the development of the ground attack version for Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Still, at high altitudes the Vulcan pilots liked to boast that they could out turn the Lightning.
  2. I step away from my computer for a couple of weeks to go on holiday and this is what I come back to? What's with all the Lightning bashing? Beautiful aircraft, I even managed to get to sit in one once, to say it is cosy is an understatement, there is not much spare room in it, and I was a skinny teenager at the time :) The prototype was the first aircraft to go supersonic without using re-heat, it had no afterburning engines and achieved M1.3 in 1958 All marques could have guns, they were fitted inside the forward belly fuel tank, the F.Mk1 and F.Mk2 both had guns mounted in the nose above the intake, they were deleted for the F.Mk3 but were added with the modified forward ventral fuel tank, the F.Mk6 also did not have guns fitted to the airframe and used the same method as the F.Mk3. Forward of the ventral tank was the weapons pack which could be replaced to utilise different weapons, It could use the Firestreak & Redtop IR homing air to air missiles which could be slaved to the radar for tracking before launch, a rocket pack for air to ground attack, and a reconnaissance pack with various cameras. Matra also made a combined over wing fuel tank that had a 2" SNEB rocket launcher on the front of it, similar to the one that could be mounted to the under wing pylon.
  3. Depending on which variant and equipment fitted you may need your joystick to control the radar or LANTRIN from the RIO position :) Pure speculation on my part tho. Anyway great to see the behind the scenes, and great to see such professionalism in the way it has been done. Much better than my effort in another niche military sim that I recorded my voice for a few years ago :D
  4. Doh, been ninja'd :)
  5. There is also a German option for the Normandy Map:
  6. Aussies do it at airshows….
  7. The Belgian Airforce has now published a website about Stefan "VADOR" Darte and the Dark Falcon team: https://www.f16darkfalcon.com/ I'm hoping we get to meet Stefan at the after airshow party, but more importantly I'm hoping we get better weather than last year :)
  8. Stefan "Vador" Arte taking his Dark Falcon out for a spin Got my tickets for my grandson and myself for Sunday :) Change that, going on Saturday now, as we have VIP tickets for the after party too and on Sunday it would be too late for my grandson with school on Monday. Really looking forward to this year now :D
  9. With the launch of the Persian Gulf terrain it would be nice if we got a E.E./BAC F53 or F55 Lightning as they were used by the Saudis and also in Kuwait
  10. Belgian Airforce Days at Kee Bee are drawing close and the tickets are on sale with a discount until 1st June https://www.belgianairforcedays.be/index.php/en/ The new livery for the Solo F-16 display aircraft:
  11. A little longer for me, still less than an hour though for both the update and the terrain download and installation, it was a slow download at the start but towards the end it was getting faster topping out at around 12MB/s
  12. First thing I tried too :) I think I need more than a full magazine from an A10 then, as I emptied one into a tanker and it was still sitting there, mind you I didn't hang around for too long as I went off to see what else there was around
  13. The controller for the LANTRIN in the F14
  14. Dancing in the moon light Can hardly wait for the ED/BST F-16C
  15. Vulcan too please + tankers and subs and capital ships also a container ship anything else?
  16. When I grow up...
  17. Tornado...
  18. As I have just found out :) But after loading up DCS I was prompted to re-activate all my modules, which came up as saying they were already activated  :book: Well I never re-activated any of them when it said they were already activated and skipped through them until DCS ended up at the main menu screen. Everything seems t be still working A-ok. On loading the AJS-37 (why does that remind me of a motorbike I used to own?) the screen had the Spitfire up as it's splash screen and as the pause image.
  19. It's from November 2016, it is not on the recently updated satellite image on Google Maps
  20. The HUD was showing 9.1g for a few seconds during the test flight, the pilot was the one that does the solo displays at the airshows etc. He sought and got permission from ATC before doing each manoeuvre whether the 9g test or going supersonic. The young student pilot doing his first set of BFM in the F-16 looked really wrung out when he came back to the base. Mind you, watching the show taxed my understanding of the Flemish language as I'm not a native speaker :) The show was filmed just a few km from me, I live under the flight path from KB airbase, it was also filmed in Jordan and Estonia with the flights that are deployed there.
  21. Have just finished watching the 5 part Belgian TV docu/series F-16 and they regularly take the F-16s up to 9g+ especially after routine maintenance. One pilot has had to retire from flying the F-16 as his body can no longer take the strain and pain from pulling high g manoeuvres, he was only 42, now he flies as first officer/co pilot on an AWACS, while he spoke about it and seen his last flight on episode 2 it was only on episode 5 that we got a bit more information, he has a large slow beating heart and under g-force it was moving down against his diaphragm and causing problems, he was also commenting on the fact that it was better to have a smaller faster beating heart to keep the pressure up to help fend off g-loc. It was one recurring comment on flying the F-16 was the pain it put the body through pulling high g, there was always a physio on hand to help work out the knots in the muscles from sustained g-manoeuvres.
  22. Ok, you have shut up the RIO and are ignoring him, you are flying the canyon run to the loud sounds of Highway to the Danger Zone, at what point does Jester select rear seat only and punch out?
  23. Or install Windows 10 on all your relatives computers/laptops, its been keeping me busy for ages :(
  24. Hmm, says 3 on my VTM (Telenet) but I can live with 5 :D
  25. Ah ha! found a pic... it's in the new Haynes manual... it is a little different than the F-18 stick tho.
