  1. According to budget reports there is a long range AIM 120 replacement in the works just now. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/new-long-range-missile-project-emerges-in-us-budget-442816/
  2. We had lead lined aprons to wear when servicing radars on ships, even lead glass inserts to put in place of the metal covers so we could see what and how we were manipulating/testing the circuits in the transmitters. You always felt a bit uncomfortable being close to them while they were transmitting even when you had all the protective gear on. We also had a small apron thing that went from your waist down and had a tail to go between your legs all to protect your wedding tackle :helpsmilie: :D
  3. Most likely a Sony 3/4" UMatic they were introduced to the consumer market in 1971, tho in our company we used Philips N1500 then later a N1700 which to be honest wasn't as good as the Sony system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-matic Edit: U-Matic was the format that a lot of TV studios used and it was constantly updated and still in use until the late 1990s, Sony's Betamax was a cut down version of the U-Matic system, Philips and Grundig went off to make the V2000 system that worked like an audio cassette in that you could flip the tape over and record on the other side, it was actually a very good system but expensive. The other Japanese manufactures got together and set a standard for home VCR called Video Home System or VHS, it was not as good quality as Betamax or V2000 but they flooded the market, then the porn industry adopted it and so it became the de facto standard.
  4. Edit: Oops different Sunset Show, The aircraft is from our local airbase here in Belgium and displayed at the Sunset show at Sanicole I know cos I wuz there (in Lleida last summer but not at the airshow) (pic is actually from the 2016 Sanicole Sunset Show as my camera threw a hissy fit at this years Sunset Airshow :( )
  5. You mean like this?
  6. A few RAF airfields have/had arrestor gear too and there are tales of Lightnings and Phantoms having to use them. On this page there are some pictures of the arrestor and a Lancaster that has a tail hook and arrestor wire under the Lanc. https://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?75441-airfield-aircraft-arrester-wire-systems&highlight=airfield%20arrestor There are more detailed images on the Airfield Research Group's forums too but you have to be registered with the site to see them. https://www.airfieldresearchgroup.org.uk/
  7. Well it was that or Cobra could be throwing us a BONE That would incorporate a lot of the programing they have learned: Multi Crew Swing Wing 4 Engines
  8. B52? A BUFF staring in Flight of the old dog :D
  9. ISTR that is how we got the TF51/P51, as it was an internal development tool for ED that they released to us.
  10. They could have done something like the AN-2, still a single engine biplane but at least it has a military function albeit not exactly an aerobatic masterpiece ;)
  11. ah interesting, and along with the Yak 52 as well I look forward to throwing her around the sky
  12. thought I would have a go at the Harrier on the NTTR this evening but my furry friend had other ideas:
  13. First time I was close to an aircraft was the one I flew, a DH Chipmunk at RAF Turnhouse, been in a few since then. CH47 Spitfire - that took a bit of persuasion at a museum, but it was for a friend of mine as he really loved the Spit. I could not tell you what version it was. F16 Block 30 C130 Mi24 both gunner and pilot's seats Avro Vulcan E.E. Lightning F3, F53 Canberra Sepcat Jaguar Tornado Been rather close to a lot more, helped push a Spitfire and Hurricane to the flight line at Farnbourgh Had a very enjoyable afternoon wandering through the hangar at Duxford where they repair and restore the aircraft, asking questions as I went :)
  14. My average age this year would be about 61.5
  15. True :) Not spammed many missiles in game so not noticed, it's more of a guns guns guns for me, never even tried the rockets on the P51 yet
  16. From the armaments page of the EE Lightning F3 June 1969: IR homing missile "Red Top" So, proximity fuses have been around in missiles for a while
  17. I got a serial number when I pre-ordered the AV8B So I was expecting the same terms and conditions as I had under all the previous purchases going back to when BS1 was released
  18. Not perfect but it would be better.
  19. If it had happened last month then I would not have seen this as I was away back home without internet. Oh, and where I used to live in the remote Highlands, mains electricity was not guaranteed, but at least I had 2 generators in the garage for when it went out, which it did regularly.
  20. While it varies from year to year, I return to Scotland about 4 or 5 times per year usually for a week to 10 days at a time, however it has been more, one year it was 13 times I was back and forth, and one time when I was back for 3 months, they are the outliers.
  21. It is a rather touchy subject just now as our whole street here had lost it's internet on Monday evening through to late Tuesday afternoon, going from a good 200/60 connection to nothing and knowing that there was an update or two scheduled for this week... I do spend a lot of time here as my wife works here and as I'm retired(ish) I do spend a lot of time online, but we are planning on moving to the other house where I'm domiciled when she retires and it is going to suck without having internet and this just added to that suckyness :)
  22. I have more than 2 but that is by the by, only one of them has no internet and that is where I am domiciled as it happens.
  23. READ my posts properly, I have internet here at this house, I DO NOT HAVE INTERNET AT MY OTHER HOUSE IN A DIFFRENT COUNTRY FROM HERE.
  24. I don't have to pull my internet when I'm away from my house here I just don't have it at my other house, hang I don't even have broadcast TV/cable TV/satellite TV at my other house. At the moment I don't need an internet connection to play when I am away from here, but if the modules are disabled after 4 days without being able to log on then that is a big problem and it is a change of the terms on which I bought the module(s). It's why I got a refund on Elite: Dangerous as they changed the terms and required an always on connection.
  25. I for one, I have never been on a multiplayer server with DCS
