  1. Concur with ExoticTrout .. SUNTSAG is a great resource.. you are looking for tutorials (sounds like) of putting in a JTAC (invincible or not, invisible or not) to spot and mark targets..... If you are talking about AI aircraft marking targets with smoke rockets... a bit different then.
  2. dproko, When in Programming mode for the X65 software ... try choose the Grid View (if that is available to you) versus the View that has the picture of the Throttle Unit ... you will see they typical drop down arrow that lets you assign a key function or create a macro when changing to that Mode (M1, M2, or M3) Assumption.. the same programming software for the X55/56 HOTAS is used with the X65 ... In the X55/56 profile interface you don't see that function to program the actual MODE if in the image of throttle unit view.
  3. Chris, As Speed noted above ... If you have a price point you are willing to go to or are limited to that will be really helpful for people to focus their time recommending something might actually purchase ... it IS true that there are as many opinions as there are headsets. You also can get a pretty quick canvas of the ton of stuff out there and quickly see some of the specs by looking at vr-compare website ... and then ask people who fly DCS World with VR HMDs about stuff you might see there. I've flown DCS in Vive, Vive Pro, and currently use a PIMAX 8KX. I've liked them all progressively ... but a lot has changed and there's been a lot for me to figure out on the way to make them the most useful, comfortable, and dialed in for long DCS flights.
  4. Mark, What aircraft are you trying to set up for in DCS ? Are you flying using a VR Headset or on a Computer Monitor ? Are you just trying to program to use the X56 within DCS itself or are you OK with using the Logitech G programming software for the X-56 HOTAS ? Every Sim Pilot has their favorite setups/settings and it's all good .... what ends up working best for you is what matters .... If just using DCS settings and not Logitech G you'll still have a lot of capability but won't get any real use out of the Mode M2 and M3 positions ..which is fine if you don't need them. A VR setup is different than a PC Monitor Setup (depending again on aircraft/helo) because in VR you can set up left and right mouse clicks and mouse wheel movements on the X-56 and you don't need to program every function/switch to the joystick. In a PC Monitor Setup you may want to program more of the functions to the joystick. For PC Monitor flying (non-VR) my go to was set up all buttons, toggles, triggers, wheels etc on M1 to be Navigation/landing/takeoff, M2 was for Air to Air Functions, and M3 was for Air-to-Ground. Some functions exist on all three Modes (because you REALLY need them at any moment and don't want to have to worry about what Mode you are in when you do) In the most simple manner (short of LUA programming) Some Aircraft (Flaming Cliffs) don't have mouse-clickable cockpits so you end up having to program aircraft functions to the joystick keys or map what joystick inputs you do to the functions. One other.. I always set up pitch, roll, yaw (stick/cyclic/rudder) and throttle/collective axis in DCS Axis mapping itself regardless of whether I map everything directly in DCS or use Logitech G also with DCS mappings. The answers to these questions will help us help you and I might have a decent X-56 profile you could use if you are using Logitech G (depending on which Aircraft and what mode (VR versus PC monitor.. I have both for some)
  5. GaryM05, I flew LB 2 back in the day (solo and multi) and have flown the Blackshark since it was first released in DCS World. That doesn't make me an expert on it.. just someone who has flown it a great deal for years. Bottom Line: Yes.... tactical flying matters, doing recon for targets and establishing battle positions is rewarded (or possibly punished if you just rush in or don't mind terrain). You can receive and do target handoffs with up to three other Blackshark pilots so that part of LB 2 is kind of recreated here... just differently that an Apache with the radar. It has a good set of ordnance loadouts available so that makes it fun.... but the Ordnance is different than you would find on the Apache.... so you'll have to get use to the strengths and weaknesses of those... and the learning part is fun (for me). As noted by others... it is a challenge to fly and fight given you are doing it all alone... it is a study sim helo :book:but that's part of the fun of it all learning the system nuances and subsystems. I would be less than honest if I said learning and remembering everything about the Autopilot system, abris etc etc didn't give me a headache once or twice in the past.... :) And some times flying/fighting all that way to a target area only to find it obliterated already by the FW dudes and dudettes can be frustrating .. but again.. the experience of it all I truly enjoy..even when that happens... Some times it's only the RW Pilots that can find what's left in a target area to clear it out for the side your flying with on multiplayer servers … If you liked LB 2 you will very likely enjoy the KA-50 if you give yourself time to learn it. And the fact ED is tweaking it for a BS 3 release makes it a good time to jump in on it and start learning. Last note... you said you are flying VR.... I flew originally 3 screens with TrackIR and when I got into VR a while back I was grinning ear-to-ear to actually be "sitting in" the KA-50 … and I'm still grinning.. 'nuff said Enjoy !
  6. Definitely want multicrew in UH-1 to fly with friends or allow others to join when I would like. There are good examples out there on how to control or limit who joins your AC. I've not had any problems in that area in DCS World when flying my Gazelle multi since we join in the AC selection menu and then launch. On co-pilot and crew being bored... don't invite people to your AC that will get bored.... simple enough. Everyone has a perspective and an opinion.. there's mine … Multi-crew UH-1.. yes please !
  7. Please don't take this as a RTM Comment... not meant to be ... just a reminder also.... Once you get the switching worked out you will need to change the AP/HKC Selector knob manually to the proper rocket type (that you have currently armed) so that your aiming reticle will be adjusted for rocket type currently armed. I've never messed with the selectable.. I've just dealt with whichever was going to be fired first.. checking HP/AKC Setting before engaging. Manual pages 6-95 and 6-96 " 'НР/АКС' selector. Unguided rocket and gun pods ballistics data settings. o 0 – S-8KOM rockets with anti-tank/antipersonnel warhead o 1 – S-8TsM rockets with smoke warhead o 2 – S-13 rockets o 3 – S-24 heavy rockets. Not used o 4 – S-8M HE rockets o 5 – UPK-23 gun pods, twin 23mm The ballistic data is used for impact point calculation. The selector position must match the selected weapon; if not, the impact point will not be calculated correctly. At the start of a mission, the rocket selector switch will be automatically set to comply with selected rockets from the mission planner. If more than one rocket type is selected, the selector will set first rockets by hard point number (outer on the left wing is #1 and outer on the right wing is #4). Before a second rocket type is used, you must select the dial position manually for the rocket type of gun pod. The same operation must be done after rearming the helicopter during a mission."
  8. I bought this monitor in June 2019 and still love it.... just a datapoint.. good luck choosing. It wasn't inexpensive though... still don't regret the purchase as I was running 3 older 1920x1200 Dell monitors in 3x1 format before buying this. ViewSonic Elite XG350R-C 35” UltraWide 21:9 Curved 1440p 100Hz RGB Gaming Monitor with FreeSync HDR10 I also run a Dell 24" touchscreen above this monitor just so I can see other things running while running stuff full screen on the ViewSonic
  9. Searched the forums :book: and couldn't find a listing of what AC can carry the KAB-500L and 1500L. Is there one here anywhere ? (sorry if I missed it)… Are there any player AC that can carry and employ them yet without modding DCS ? Happy New Year Pilots !
  10. Adobe Acrobat Reader, in combination with your printer if your printer supports 2-sided printing, allows you to resize your printout and do it two-sided. You can choose to print "two-sided" then "define" your paper size as about 8.25" high by 5 1/8" wide. Adjust your margins so that you have room for the hole punches. Alternatively.. you can select print it as a "booklet" ... again.. user defined paper size as above. This will allow you to just fold the paper in half and staple, etc to hold it together.
  11. Harrier Done  Not possible to "not" buy it with a call sign like mine :pilotfly: Good luck on the release Razbam. I look forward to it. Semper Fi Mac
  12. As you talk loadouts remember that the real strength of the Harrier is it’s ability to forward base/rearm/refuel for quick turnarounds. Not it’s ability to carry a massive amount of ordnance. FARPs will be crucial to fully effective DCS employment of this AC.
  13. Hi All, If I was going to create a VCB box as a computer USB device to real scale...anybody know the HxWxD dimensions of the VCB and hand rest ? I don't care if you know it in cm/mm or inches.. I could use either. Thanks in advance if you can help. Semper Fi AldoUSMC
  14. Since everyone learns differently.. there is also a "demo" video APP on IOS for your iPad... shows process for Flying SIDs with Garmin GNS430/530W. Not everything the 430 does but a pieces part that may be useful to some. Search App Sort for "Flying SIDs with Garmin GNS430/530W" by Flight Training Apps, Inc. No... I don't work for them... it is a video of how to use .. not a simulation/simulator
  15. F5E3.zipHere ya go... it is what it is... as is :joystick: Enjoy
  16. Ditto on immersion. I have been flying DCS 1.54 Beta in my VIVE for about 3 months now a lot. Almost every AC and helo though I mostly fly strike and Helos. I fly solo and servers including multi player gazelle. I run pixels at 1.5 to 1.8 and I love it. I have a 5760x1200 setup on screens and miss some of the high detail but this is the biggest change in flight sim since TIR and programmable HOTAS for me. I've been flight simming since the late 1980s. No F10 map in 1.54 is a pain but the kneeboard and help from other pilots gets me passed that. I bought after trying DCS on my computer with a buddies VIVE....the next day.
  17. USMCHoot and I flew a couple MP sorties in Gazelle on the 104th Phoenix public server and also some range practice on The Fighting Panda's Server this weekend. I was able (as the pilot) to rearm with 4 HOT 3 missiles multiple times .... no problem.... on both servers..without my copilot (human) having to exit etc.... that's at least one data point for your consideration.... As an Aside.. my Copilot/wpns officer sets and manipulates the radios on the center panel as needed and I control the NADIR, RWR, and countermeasures. It is a WIP challenge right now that he cannot see the kneeboard mission waypoints in a MP mission. We find it useful for him to jump to F10 map to check lat/longs etc kinda like looking at a map in his lap or a tablet-based map while I'm flying to assist in visual nav when he's not scanning for threats or heads down in the Weapons TV.
  18. Good question to ask the Devs in this case.. but fact check wise, if you didn't know, it is true that a lot of more modern aircraft have been built and programmed to assume different flight characteristics programmed into them to implement automatically when put into landing/takeoff mode versus flight/attack modes (unless deliberately overridden by the pilot).
  19. There is an extensive thread on setting up your VIVE on the "Input and Output" thread in the Forums under "Sim Topics". Read there to get the best mileage out of it. My experience, using the settings recommended in that thread... I need the Pixel Density set to 1.5 or higher to see the gauges well enough to read them. Higher is better, but your frame rate will drop at higher density settings and at some point you'll get ghosting (which isn't a fun visual experience). Good luck. I'm enjoying my VIVE.
  20. Gents, You are both right about laser code usage... when talking about a human player pilot in the Mirage with AI JTAC or AFAC Lasing for you. The mission builder has to ensure the AI JTAC or Airborne FAC (who will be lasing for human player pilots) has their laser code set to whatever the Mirage is set to in the mission editor. So it doesn't always have to be the default "1688" code in this case. If you are using a human JTAC player or another lasing-capable player controlled aircraft as an AFAC to lase... then.. YOU as the pilot coordinate with the JTAC or AFAC on what laser code to they must set to lase for you... the JTAC or AFAC can't tell you .. because you can't change it.... since you have no ability to change your laser code on your GBUs... and you have hopefully been told by the mission builder (in the Briefing Perhaps) what laser code is set for you if not the default "1688"... This is where multiple player aircraft flying on the same target area.. have to coordinate. Other players that are able to change their codes should either change to enable simultaneous attacks with you.... or let you do your thing in the Mirage and then proceed after you are off station (or before you get on station) to use the only laser code you can use. So coordination is the key is all.. and makes the simulation more fun anyway.. right ? Semper Fi
  21. Hi Duriken, I own a Vive and like it alot. My advice is to scan this and the Rift Threads in this Forum for what people are saying who own BOTH systems. I have read some of them so they are there. You're also going to wade through a lot of folks who have opinions but have never used both... so take it all with a grain of salt. For the Vive I've followed the advice of posters here in the Vive thread for settings to achieve the visuals that are acceptable to me. It will NOT look as hi res as your computer screen... I've read here plenty of folks are able to achieve 45 frames per second... some have achieved 90 fps. You will have to modify your steamvr settings file.... like I said.. do your research/reading here and there are plenty of folks who have posted very helpful "how tos" to get you there. Happy Viving
  22. Yes Jojo, I understand how it is supposed to work. My post was made after probably 30-ish plus drops with JTAC lazing and GBUs not picking up the laser. Most flew long suggesting the bomb was flying too flat and the seeker not aquiring the spot. Once I changed it up to assume the 15 deg dive the seeker seemed to then acquire the spot reliably. I went from hitting zero to hitting 90+ % of drops. So I made this post so others could consider it. I wish it did work reliably for me on level or slight climb. I tried this at numerous airspeeds to ensure it wasn't just me flying too fast for a GBU release. By the way... I AM enjoying flying the M2000C in DCS. :pilotfly:
  23. Hi Pilots, After reading a lot on this across the forum posts and watching videos it finally sunk in my thick head that the GBU seeker heads can't give a readback into the cockpit or HUD of the current version of the Mirage in DCS M2000C.... meaing I don't know if my bomb can see the lase until after I drop it and it tracks... or doesn't. I would not want it to ...either.. if that's not what the M2000C does (no faking it :smilewink:) So it's entirely procedural... now I get it .... and was able to test. AI TOW HMMWV JTAC with laser code (default) 1688 (and the Mirage M2000C code set to 1688 in Mission editor) and ensured a couple things.... I kept looking for/expecting to see the AG Designated point cross do something in my HUD when my GBUs "saw" the JTAC Lase point.. on "Laser On" call because I didn't understand that there is NO feedback into the cockpit from the GBU in this M2000C.... Broken into steps I would write it as: 1) Confirmed my Mirage had the default 1688 laser code set in mission editor setup (really it looks like "688" because the NATO code 1 is already fixed... so I/we can only set the last 3 digits in ME for Mirage) 2) AI JTAC on ground was within 10 km (or less) of target group I had assigned him in ME... and had Freq 133 MHZ AM set... and had line of sight to targets. 3) V/UHF Radio in Mirage changed to 133 Mhz after takeoff when I "checked in" with JTAC via F9 key. I can see that on the upper left panel (left of the HUD and slightly below) that shows you the two freqs that are active) 4) I generally knew where the target area was (within 5 km of impact point) Assumption: At this point you have Master Arm On, GBU Selected, TAS set w your Radar On, Bomb Fuse set to RET... 5) I "AG Designated" the target area slightly short of the intended targets (nearer me) so I could see the AG Designated cross hair in my HUD (I didn't use Nav point method.. because I knew the target range "area") and I immediately regained level flight. 6) I made the "Laser On" call to the JTAC before or after I AG Designated the point on the ground.... 7) When the bomb release que line started to climb I pushed forward on the stick while holding the weapon release button and assumed a 15 degree dive angle.... the release que line "stalled" intially... then, when my Mirage was in a constant 15 dive the release que line began climbing again and released a GBU (remember I was holding down the weapon release button during this step) 8) I pulled up to level or slight climb after weapon was released so I wouldn't crash while watching the bomb... 9) I Jumped to "F6" bomb view and saw the bomb initially free falling but then it seemed to "snap" slightly indicating that it was tracking something... and it flew to the target the JTAC was lasing. 10) I pulled off target... flew back to IP area well "behind" my JTAC again.. told him to "Shift"... he shifted targets... I AG Designated the same spot/area I had before... followed weapon release and dive process noted above again... 11) Each weapon (GBU 12) tracked to the target the JTAC Shifted to each time I did this. 12)... I now "get" how this procedural lasing works for the Mirage carrying GBUs. Note.. I usually started level at about 18-25K feet MSL so that the bottom of my -15 degree dive didn't bring me too low at weapons release. Thanks to the many posters on this forum that helped me beat this into my head... finally. Semper Fi AldoUSMC
