No I did not watch Family Guy too much. Mine comes from my army times, just over a year ago I served in Finnish helicopter battalion on the maintenance side. We had this griffin cockade you see as my avatar on our berets and battalion flag. Possibly the rarest cockade around here. Well around the same time I joined this forum and started flying Black Shark. It seemed to suite pretty well as the griffin has been linked with aviation and helicopters in particular. If I would had stuck with my "callsign" that was chosen the real air force way, it would be "Blitz". It was due to my "fast" way of doing things in the army. :D

Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)
Griffin replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
Damn, I figured it was drag chute container but I couldn't find a picture of one from Su-27. I found THIS one and thought it had to be from Sukhoi aircraft. :) Next: -

Seems a bit too hard but I'll answer Su-27 family. -
Les chevaliers du ciel virtuelle
Griffin replied to slamraamproductions's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Wow that has to be one of the most beautiful videos I've seen! The flying was very lifelike and it was done superbly. I was kinda hoping it would had continued all the way like the beginning part which was definately the most beautiful machinima footage I've seen. But I get the idea of the video and you captured the atmosphere of the movie really well. FS9? Despite the quality, get FSX and continue making videos! :) -
Sorry off topic. Just a bit on the F-35 laser thingy. I believe the dome on F-35 is just a part of the regular Electro-optical Targeting System (EOTS) package. Here's some kind of research report on the F-35 laser weapon. http://www.google.fi/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBUQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.afresearch.org%2Fskins%2Frims%2Fq_mod_be0e99f3-fc56-4ccb-8dfe-670c0822a153%2Fq_act_downloadpaper%2Fq_obj_90666117-7e52-44c4-b93c-6ae9e4c55fe6%2Fdisplay.aspx%3Frs%3Dpublishedsearch&rct=j&q=HIGH%20ENERGY%20LASER%20ON%20THE%20JOINT%20STRIKE%20FIGHTER&ei=qFnQTPeFCsyXOo-jgKUF&usg=AFQjCNEOAhnJJI6tF-BI2srl3wuIbuULDQ&cad=rja I bet some scifi guys get excited by the laser weapon but honestly, wouldn't that be the lamest thing ever in aerial warfare? :D To me that would make even the HAWX look cool.

Redneck aviation :D

Hahaha awesome find!

Dear god how the hell do they think UAV's will inspire people as the original Top Gun did? That sounds awfully lame! How can they even consider UAV's? Would think Tom Cruise would have even a tiny bit of self respect and a little bit left of the feel of glory of the real deal manned aviation. What kind of romantism is there in UAV's? Why the hell am I so conserned of such a lame movie anyway?

Haven't seen this picture before. Ka-52 "Arbalet" radar. Can someone identify this helicopter? The MFD looks identical to those found on Ka-52 but I couldn't match the rest of the instruments to any Ka-52 cockpit photos. Looks like there's an Mi-28 behind the man. EDIT: Matches to Mi-28 pilot's cockpit pics.

Great stuff man! Lucky man.

Saitek X-52 or Thrustmaster Cougar?
Griffin replied to dane48's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I got spiky twisty rudder right out of the box. Took the thing back and picked up the CH Pro Throttle to go with my old trusty Logitech Freedom joystick. The combo has worked well and you could consider using that kind of combo for a month or two and then get the Fighterstick as soon as you can afford it if you really are short on money. -
Saitek X-52 or Thrustmaster Cougar?
Griffin replied to dane48's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm going to make it a tad more difficult and say CH Fighterstick + CH Pro Throttle, providing you already have rudder pedals. You need pedals with Cougar too. According to people, Cougar is feels solid but will go bad in a while and needs to be modded to become a good stick. The mods cost as much as the stick itself. Saitek. Lot's of people use it but quality wise, paying a little more for CH setup will benefit much more. I just ordered CH Fighterstick to accompany the CH Pro Throttle that I already have. You won't find any other HOTAS that has been so praised in reviews as CH HOTAS. It looks ugly but it trades the useless eye candy for quality. You might get a Saitek system that will last and serve you well but reading the reviews and having a little experience of my own, I'm all for CH. CH Fighterstick & Pro Throttle bundle - 276.74 $. PS. CH Fighterstick is almost identical to A-10C stick so it will be easy to program realistically. And which stick do you have at the moment? -
The Fighting Lady - Oscar winning war documentary from 1944. Full color movie about the battles of USS Yorktown in the pacific. Tons of high quality gun cam footage. IMDB

What they said. A great read and I liked the way it is written. Maybe some pilot from the book actually fired one of these.
-
Definately the best WW2 gun cam video I've seen. 720p option available.

I'm okay with dropping the FC2 but the compatibility issues don't stop there. If they made a "core sim" to which all the modules would be installed it would have been much easier even if it would have taken alot more time. Quite like the MSFS series, adding new aircraft and updating the main core of the sim as necessary. It's going to be a headache for them in a few years to update all the modules to be online compatible let alone fixing the major bugs in older modules as they don't have time to do that these days either. I think I said quite a while ago that someday they will have to deal with DCS: Nightmare. I hope they have some tricks up their sleeves.

Question for CH Fighterstick users. How have you made the dual action trigger work? Time delay? Press trigger engages SAS and holding for 1 second fires the gun or how? I can't really figure how should I do it once I buy the stick.
-
Wow! Quite unexpected but.. great! Seriously thinking about buying. A dumb question: is this the final price of the product or is it just so "high" for the pre-purchase? It's not too much if you ask me, definately a great bang for every penny but more than Black Shark. Just curious.

Bolded the words I translated my own way. It was pretty much the same, words can be translated a bit differently depending on person. Rather strange clip to be translated. What's so special about it? :)

Awesome! Too bad for our Sharks. I'll participate as soon as the starting time won't be after midnight. Requesting high res please!
