Severe loading performance issues with 2.9.15
Simo replied to Nightstorm's topic in Game Performance Bugs
While trying to alleviate stutters the other day I was playing around with Max Frame rate settings, both in game and in NVCP. No luck eliminating the stutters, but I did notice that setting the max framerate to 300 in game and Unlimited in NVCP seemed to dramatically increase load times (both initial game load and into mission). So, may be worth trying lowering max Frame rate to just above your headset/monitor refresh rate if you haven't already. -
Are you using Quadviews, or OpenXR Toolkit with Turbo Mode enabled? Seem to recall this being a cause of crashes when headset is removed.
-
No, checked FPS limit is off in NVCP, OXRTK and DCS settings. Tried capping in and uncapping in all three, but makes no difference. Am using Turbo mode though - this is the only way I can get smooth frame times on Link, but it seems less effective on VD (but still better than with TM off). Looking at the performance overlay in VD there is some slight fluctuation in network latency, so am wondering if that's the cause.
-
Will give that a go, thanks. On a 4090, so not sure VRAM is the issue, but worth a try.
-
Is anyone actually able to maintain a constant 72fps with VD? Even on the main menu (hangar) screen I get a slight fluctuation from 71-72 FPS in VD, while in Link I get a flat line 72 FPS. I'd prefer to use VD over Link due to the slightly crisper visuals, but the increased stutter due to not beng able to hold a solid 72fps puts me off. Originally thought this might be down to poor WiFi connection, but get the same result connected via ethernet per nikoel's method. Even on potato settings the fluctuation is there.

See first post in this thread - looks like Ready keeps it updated with latest tweaks. It is indeed an awesome resource!

Yup, here it is. Following those steps didn't work for me, so I'm glad you didn't see it and took the time to put together a more idiot-proof guide!
-
Many thanks for the guide, and highlighting the above step - I'd tried this before based on guides on hoggit without success, but finally got it working as you described. Cheers!

If your stutters are now limited to when flying over cities, Quad Views might be part of the problem. As I understand it, the need to render all the buildings four times (for each eye at both hi and lo res) with associated shadows adds significant CPU load. Turning off shadows might help, and/or possibly dropping down scenery details factor and LOD switch factor sliders

Stuttering in DCS VR need help please!!!!!
Simo replied to achilles255057's topic in Virtual Reality
I've found VD to be very stuttery with lots of random frame rate drops since the last patch (running on a Quest Pro). Have you tried Quest Link to see if that's any better? -
Additional Training Missions for the Viggen - Nevada Edition
Simo replied to Rudel_chw's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
@Rudel_chw Many thanks for building and sharing these excellent missions! I've flown three so far and found them to be well thought out, informative and enjoyable - much better than the stock training missions IMO. Couple of minor bugs I've encountered: - on the abbreviated cold start, general carnage ensues around you as the Chinooks and B-1 burst into flames on touchdown (actually kinda hilarious when juxtaposed with the calm delivery of the training voiceover ) - guessing a newly introduced DCS AI bug - when interacting with ATC, it seems the next voiceover is only triggered when using the FR22 PTT bind, but not the FR22 PTT/VOIP bind - took me a while to figure out there were two binds for operating thr same radio!- 54 replies

This looks awesome - recently bought the Viggen and have been looking for something more in depth than the stock training missions. Just curious, why is there a 60 minute time limit for completing the training missions after you download them? Also, I'm having issues with the Discord link on the Viggen.Training homepage: - https://discord.com/channels/1071433028045377637/1166748421005262929 When I press it, it just takes me to random channels on servers I'm already a member of. Looks to be a link to a specific channel rather than an actual Discord invite?

Interactive manual - functionality to be available in other modules?
Simo replied to Simo's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Thank you for the insight. It must be hard to justify this level of effort on ancillary QOL features as it's probably not a major selling point for a module. Another example of HB going the extra mile I guess! But I reckon having an accessible in-game manual will make the process of learning the module in detail a lot more enjoyable and hopefully translate to users spending more time in it. Fingers crossed this sets the future standard, and other developers see the benefit and add similar functionality to their modules. -
Interactive manual - functionality to be available in other modules?
Simo replied to Simo's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Looks like a good system, provided you have a large tablet and don't mind taking off your VR headset every time you need to reference it. Personally I find the main limitation with PDF format manuals is the lack of responsive formatting. For study outside the game, the fixed format of PDFs means readability on anything smaller than an A4 size tablet is not great. I don't own a large tablet myself, and during most of the free time I have available to study a manual the only device available is a phone. Reading an A4 formatted PDF requires more zooming, horizontal scrolling and screen rotating than ideal. IMO, even reading a PDF on a desktop is clunkier than a well formatted, responsive web page. Inability to easily access the manuals in-game is another current drawback. Granted, you can export the PDFs to images and drop them in the kneeboard folder (or use OpenKneeboard), but the process is somewhat clunky and the formatting and lack of interactivity are still suboptimal. It looks like Heatblur's approach should remedy both these issues for the F-4, but I'd be keen to see a similar solution ported to other modules (happy to have a crack at it myself if the right tools are available!). -
One of the QOL features shown in the F4 trailer that I'm most excited about is the interactive manual. IMO this will make the process of learning a module much easier and more enjoyable (especially for VR users). I'm curious if this feature is an extension of the existing in-game kneeboard functionality, or has required some kind of "core engine" update? Will it be possible for modders to implement similar interactive manuals for other modules, or would SDK access be required? I feel PDF is an outdated documentation format, except perhaps for the small minority that prefer to print physical copies. Props to HB for blazing a trail and finally implementing something more user friendly!

+1. Surprised there haven't been more reports regarding the terrible quality of Low Res terrain textures on Normandy 2. Many VR users with <24GB VRAM (myself included) struggle to maintain playable FPS with terrain textures on high. Appreciate there will be some loss of visual quality with lower Res textures, but the other maps seems to have done a much better job at implenting them without the jarring, repeating pattern 90s sim retro look.

The Oculus Performance HUD (enabled via the Oculus debug tool or Oculus Tray Tool) seems to be hidden behind the game in VR. The HUD is visible on the loading screen if you rotate your head so that it pops out from behind the loading screen, but once the game is fully loaded it is completely hidden. This makes debugging performance issues very frustrating in the Quest 2. Desktop screens pinned via the Oculus Link main menu also suffer from the same problem. Apparently the Oculus performance HUD and ability to pin windows was available pre 2.7, but has been broken since. Using DCS standalone with Oculus as the default VR runtime.

Same issue as Majestic above - after selecting "Move On" following Lotus's explanation of the SA cue, she replies "Cool" and then there is no further communication.

Thank you sir! Should have thought to check the docs folder

Just completed Mission 3 of Iron Flag and loving it so far - amazed how many Hog intricacies I still hadn't covered despite completing the packaged training missions plus all three Maple Flag campaigns! Apologies if I've missed this, but is there a syllabus or full list of all missions in the campaign somewhere? My sim time is limited and unpredictable in timing, so would like to read up in advance for the upcoming missions if possible.

@BIGNEWY- I noticed "Refined engine response." was included in the Hornet patch notes for 2.7.6.12852. Are you able to elaborate on what parameters were changed and whether this was in response to analyses provided earlier in this thread? I hadn't flown the Hornet for a couple of months, but subjectively it feels slightly more responsive to throttle inputs and am having an easier time catching the 3-wire (although could be to do with mostly flying warbirds recently!). Thanks

Some googling revealed this possible remedy for the Thrustmaster TFRP stiction issue on the MSFS forums. I couldn't find any of the clear Japanese-made tape in that post available locally, so I ordered a roll of this basic self-adhesive PTFE tape from Amazon and applied it to the plastic runners where they sit on the metal rails. So far it has made a big difference - the stiction is greatly reduced and rudder control feels a lot smoother and more precise as a result. Not sure how long the tape will last, but £6 for a roll of tape sure beats £300+ for a pedal upgrade!
