  1. I love the new Su-33 model, but I found that now I damage the aircraft on landing a lot more often than before. It looks like as the main shock absorbers are to weak. I am attaching a picture of a real Su-33 and a screenshot of a Su-33 COMPLETELY empty, no fuel, no ammo no nothing... It seems to me that the sim one sits a bit lower than the one in the picture. The angle in the strut (or whatever that thingy is called) behind the main gears bends at a narrower angle than the one in the pic.
  2. It will ring because of the ground, if I'm not mistaken, below 5000 feet.
  3. I wish I had the clarity my instructors had, command of the English language and patience to explain it. As an ICAO rated ATCo, with experience in various FIRs, I can say that the use of QFE for separations or anything else than internal cockpit stuff is unthinkable, and probably obsolete due to the development of onboard equipment (EGPWS, radio altimeter, FMS, etc). In my career I was never requested QFE even If I had it available at my fingertips. I read a some posts above that the ATC could calculate the difference in altitude between traffic on QNH and QFE to work separations... well, no. The point is to have ONE standard. Here are 2 pictures that may help understand it to those who still don't have it 100% clear. http://www.skybrary.aero/index.php/Altimeter_Pressure_Settings I strongly wish that DCS starts issuing QNH instead of QFE SOME INTERESTING READING AirbusSafetyLib_-FLT_OPS-SUPP_TECH-SEQ01.pdf
  4. Remember also, that AI units can see and detect through trees, so unless you have a building or a mountain in between, they have line of sight with you. Then pop up or not pop up is the same...
  5. +1 DCS ATC needs sooo much more love...
  6. At least, the unit used should be displayed ALWAYS by the figure, in the ME, in the external views, etc. EDIT: To be fair most units are there, my gripe has always been with the QNH and the aircraft speeds (what speed is that in the ME and on the outside views? IAS, TAS, GS? probably TAS)
  7. The problem is, if you're only using the mouse, there's no other way to keep the starter switch up and move the mouse to the mix lever. I think it is a feature. I found it more natural to use the keyboard to operate the starter (home key I believe) and the mix lever with the mouse.
  8. @Merlin. I understand that the hydraulic pressure keeps the flaps in the selected position. If I am not mistaken, without hydraulic pressure the flaps will be "loose" so they'll probably stay, up or "up-ish" while you have airspeed and come down after landing.
  9. AFAIK, at this stage it is purely cosmetic. Pity that some kind of degradation is not modeled.
  10. DCS UH-1H Huey Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all
  11. The gear is sturdy, but the wheel bay doors might not sustain the forces abd be ripped off or deformed. Subsequent hydraulic leaks or jammed doors maybe?
  12. removed. Will not serve the purpose that you need. The best I can think is to find a colour that has less contrast with the background, but it will obviously depend on the background.
  13. After reading your post I entered the sim and tried to abuse the engine a little bit. At lowest RPM and max throttle, even playing intermittently with the supercharger and rapidly increasing and decreasing throttle, the engine didn't fail as I believe it used to do. I remember when I first flew the Mustang (unfortunately don't remember what version) if the engine wasn't really taken care of, it would seize shortly after take off. Also I noticed that the visual effect of propeller alpha doesn't seem to be modeled anymore. Looking from the side, the "thickness" of the blade seems to be the same at lowest or highest RPM. Not complaints, just comments.
  14. You're pulling too hard, causing an accelerated stall. Be smoother on the controls.
  15. Don't confuse the radar units that you can add in the mission editor with the radar antennas (surveillance and PAR) that populate DCS:World's aerodromes. The first ones work and emit and the second ones are just decorative, no emissions or anything.
  16. Mizzy, if you're crashing on take off, you're most probably making the same mistakes that I (and probably many of us) did at the beginning. Those might be: A) TRIM FOR TAKE OFF: If there's no wind, you should trim rudder about 5-6 degrees to the right to compensate for torque. That and smooth throttle increase is enough for an almost hands free take off. If there's wind, factor it and compensate accordingly. B) This was my biggest mistake and took me a while to realize and fix it. Don't get airborne as soon as the airplane starts to get lift, it may seem that it "wants" to fly but it's not ready yet. Lower your nose a LITTLE BIT and keep it running on the runway until you have enough speed (about 130mph) to get airborne safely. Chances are that you're stalling it as soon as you take off. A wing will drop. The controls are super sensitive and overcompensating at low altitudes will kill you. Hope it helps. I actually love posts like your thread opening one. If you really love flying and are persistent enough, surely in 15 days you'll post back with a completely different point of view. We have all been there. In fact I found nowadays that ED did "something" to the Mustang, as it is very difficult for me to reproduce those disastrous take off attempts and engine blowns of my first days. (Are u sure ED you didn't do anything to the engine? mine use to blow up just after passing the upwind threshold if the radiators weren't set properly. Not anymore)
  17. Unfortunately I believe there are not many adopters at all, be them early or late for the UH1 and the MI8 and that may explain this modules being on sale so early after release. This are niche products (transport helos), inside a niche (helicopters), inside a niche (study flight sims), inside a niche (aviation games). Even having 100% of the market share, this market might be very small. I hope I'm wrong. All quality product developers deserve to make good money out of their work.
  18. I waited until the Mustang went on sale for the first time to buy it. Then I realized how much time I had wasted.... That said, at this point in time we all should know how it works with ED and partners wrt sales and promotions. It's our own choice to buy or not, and when to do it. I am already bored of this discussion arising with every sale.
  19. Beauty!!! The cables though....
  20. Yep, the P51 has that radio problem. It works if you click the PTT on the throttle.
  21. As discussed in other thread, closing RAM air, MIGHT be realistic but unfortunately on DCS the only effect will be loss of engine power.
  22. Can TARS be used in this server?
  23. The whole forum is a mess, obsolete stickies from 3 years ago, irrelevant stuff mixed with golden info. And I am talking about the official side. If we are going to have weekly updates, then open a thread called ED's Weekly updates, and make it closed to comments. Don't make 38 thousand individual threads, all of them stickies, as in 4 months most of them will be obsolete, and just cluttering the already cluttered forum. This is supposed to be positive criticism.
  24. Well my friend, the problem is that here, and maybe everywhere, the downloaded file is a .MAN type, unknown to me and my computer. So no, I hadn't read or seen the read me or anything else that you included in the download. I now tried my chance and replaced .MAN for .RAR and now yes I can see that there's a read me file inside. I'm sure I will be able to follow the instructions now, that considering I can dress myself, brush my own teeth, wipe my arse and control air traffic in a busy international airport. About the "thank you", here it is. Thank you. About the rep, we will see after I test your mod. You'll probably get it. In the meantime, given that you seem to love so much the attention (nothing wrong with that), have a round of applause. Cheers mate...
  25. Excuse me for the noob question, but how do I install the mod?
