Thanks Northstar98. Perhaps a better way to word my question would be, is there some gameplay experience that you expect to have with the A that you couldn’t get with the B?
-
Thanks! That was exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Great points.

First off I want to clearly state that this question is not in any way intended to criticize or minimize the fantastic work Heatblur is doing on this module; the F-14 is by far my favorite DCS module and at this point, I'll buy anything they put out. However, I genuinely feel like I'm missing something -- are people excited for the -A simply because it's another version of the Tomcat? Or is there something different enough about it that you're specifically excited to fly the -A? From what I understand, it will basically be a lower-thrust, more temperamentally-engined Tomcat. Is there something about it that people believe to be superior to the -B? And again, I'm asking an honest question here and looking for input, with no ill intent toward Heatblur whatsoever. Frankly in my book, just the fact that we can now do afterburner carrier launches (right?) would be enough for me to get excited about the -A. :) But I'd like to hear specifically why others are looking forward to it.

What's the best way to control zoom when looking for targets?
GregP replied to Hive's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
I've always used the mic button on the throttle: forward for zoom in slow, aft for zoom out slow, press for zoom default, shift+press for zoom all the way in. -
It’s not just the format, which is really bad, but also the host of problems like broken subscriptions, broken notifications, Tapatalk not working correctly. I get the desire to make mobile browsing better compared to the old forum, but this move strikes me as exactly the opposite of what is needed right now with that other mammoth flight sim potentially pulling away so many DCS fans recently — myself included. Frankly if keeping up to date on the topics users care about becomes too much of a frustrating chore, it’s going to permanently drive them away. I hope that doesn’t happen, but in its current state this forum doesn’t offer much hope.

Still issues with thread counts though, for example. In my ‘Subscribed Threads’ section, some of them show nonsensical counts like ‘833/825’ and the most recent posts refuse to load, eventually leading to error messages popping up.
-
The ‘Latest Activity’ option is extremely frustrating: on mobile in Chrome, at least, the list of topics shows the first post in each thread, rather than the last, thereby completely defeating the point of having a quickly-accessible capture of the most recent activity on one page. Instead it requires the user to click on each thread and go to the latest post. To make matters worse, when you click back to return to the list of topics, you are returned to the main forum page and have to once again manually choose the Latest Activity option.

Another Tapatalk user here very disappointed that the new forum isn’t working (yet?) with it.

Can you share an editable version? Love the format but just want to make some small tweaks. -
seat foam... what did you choose? Was it satisfactory?
GregP replied to Rick50's topic in Home Cockpits
I went ahead and ordered a single 1” layer of their soft foam, and I’m pretty impressed. Definitely a better material than that used in the many cushions I’ve bought on Amazon over the years. I may be able to use this alone on top of my Jetseat and be comfortable enough. Thanks for the recommendation! -
Nice work there! I see you use a Jetseat on top of a Playseat just like i do. Do you find it comfortable enough without any other pads? I have the older black-and-orange version of the Jetseat that maybe had less padding than the newer one you have. I too came up with an extender for the center mounted stick so that it could project over the end of the seat, but yours definitely looks more rugged. I then just cut a section out of both the Jetseat and the two pads I have on top of it for the stick to fit.

GregP replied to Rick50's topic in Home Cockpits
I’ve been wondering same lately, as I continue to try to get my Jetseat-on-top-of-Playseat to be tolerable for more than short periods. For the seat part I currently have a layer of thick yoga pad between the two, and then two of these pads on top of the Jetseat: 4 Pack Memory Foam Honeycomb Nonslip Back 16" x16" Chair/Seat Cushion Pad https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A8NX5J6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UrPsFbNHF8Y1H Then for the seat back, I again have thick yoga mat between the two and a small additional section of mat on top of the Jetseat, right along my spine. As a whole it’s ok for now but definitely could use some improvement. I’ve yet to find a way to completely mask the fairly uncomfortable Jetseat motors that constantly seem to be poking into either my upper thighs or back. -

In case you hadn’t figured it out yet: on the main TrackIR screen in the upper left corner are sliders for speed and smoothing.

I’ve been using the Asus ROG Strix XG438Q since February. In the past I’ve used 58”, 55” and 50” 4K monitors but for my cockpit setup, with the approximately 3 ft that I sit away from the monitor, I’m finding that 43” feels the most natural and comfortable. I went for this G-Sync-compatible monitor because even with my 2080 Ti, I wasn’t sure I’d always be able to maintain 60 FPS and thus didn’t want to rely on traditional V-Sync to get rid of tearing. Whether that feature alone is worth the extra price is likely highly dependent upon the buyer; for me it was. I will say, though, that it seems to lack the brightness / vibrancy that you’d get in say an OLED. Again for me this is currently a tolerable tradeoff though.

Same problem on OB version, at least for the AA gun and SW training missions—there are no targets.

I bought one back in 2016 and still use it, absolutely love it. I wanted to buy another one a few months ago so I wrote to the guy who makes these, but unfortunately at that time he said he didn’t have any plans to make any more. I would guess that’s probably still the case.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Dropped price, still available!

EDIT: SOLD I bought these new in December but have now decided to go with a VKB setup instead. I have the original boxes and all included pieces, as shown. I even bought a compact base plate as the larger plate didn't fit my pit setup at the time. The VirPil store seems to be out of stock on both the base and the grip, but is priced there at 330 Euro + ~ 51 Euro to ship to the US = $412. I'm selling mine for $375 even, which includes shipping (US only please) and the compact base plate, so I think it's a pretty good deal for anyone itching to try out a VirPil setup.

EDIT: SOLD The MFD pack no longer has the heavy metal bases -- I only have the MFDs themselves as shown in the picture. Online they go for $70+ new -- I'm selling for $40, which includes shipping. The X-Keys 58-key programmable keypad is made by P.I. Engineering and uses a program called MacroWorks to program the macros you want to assign to it. Makes an ideal UFC; I've been using it for DCS controls as shown in the picture. Goes for $120+ online -- I'm selling for $70, which includes shipping. I'll sell all three for $100 if anyone is interested. US only please.
