TrackIR not as smooth in 2.5 as 2.2 and 1.5.8
j0nx replied to Jacks's topic in Game Performance Bugs
The mi8 has serious performance issues in the latest versions of 2.5. It is a good 20% less performance than any other bird and it just started recently. Trackir is also a stutter fest for me and only with DCS. Panning with joystick is smooth. The issue I have discovered is that it's fps related at anything below monitor refresh rate. <60 and it stutters. >60 and it smooths out considerably. Still lots of issues to work out with 2.5 it seems, particularly after the release that fixed the missing buildings in Vegas. -
I threw my 1080ti in my VR machine yesterday and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 10 so that nothing is on that PC but DCS, xplane 11 and FSX and the 1080ti didn’t make much of a difference in performance in DCS. Running task manager during a VR flight where I was getting 45fps the task manager showed 35% cpu usage and 60% gpu usage yet I am only getting 45fps. The sim is not using resources like it should. Xplane 11 was using a lot more cpu and gpu but even it still wasn’t using them maxed out. I’m going to test it out some more today and decide if I will keep the 1080ti in there instead of in my primary gaming pc which has a 4k monitor and is now borderline on performance with the 1080 that’s in there now. DCS doesn’t seem to perform any better between the 1080 and 1080ti for whatever reason... Also another thing I have noticed is that after the patch that fixed the missing buildings, the mi8 is definitely the problem child with regard to performance. All of the other helicopters have very good performance but the mi8 is lagging really bad now comparatively. It didn’t used to be that way until very recently. I think there’s a problem there.

I run everything with medium to high settings in VR with a 6700, 16GB memory and a 1080 and have no stutters. Performance has dropped some since the update that fixed the Nevada buildings though but I am not attributing that to system memory. I just can't see updating to 32GB of memory for this sim. That seems wayyyy overboard for what it should require. Not to mention memory prices are absurd right now on par with video card prices.

There is a very noticeable decrease in FPS for me too with the latest DCS update compared to the one before they broke the missing buildings. What used to be 45 solid is now 30 and 22. Not good. I tried disabling DS and it is somewhat better but without DS there are no longer any ground shadows on buildings etc. Just an overall drop in performance at least in Nevada.

FPS for me is wayyy down with latest version of 2.5 compared to last version before the buildings disappeared. The textures are much different now too so I think that has a lot to do with it. I never dropped below 45fps before in Vegas with my settings in VR and now I'm dropping to 22 and hovering in the 30-35 range. There are also no ground shadows now with DS turned off. Ugh. I only do SP.

Uh no. If I break my corporate email system on a Friday I don't just tell my boss sorry it's the weekend dude and it's my time off. I would have to stay over the weekend grinding it out and fixing the problem while everyone else was at the beach. I'm assuming they are working as well and not subscribing to your 'normal working hours' ideas. I'm still kinda aghast that something like this got through in the first place. It's pretty obvious when testing a patch before it's pushed to users that there are no objects on the main map? I totally understand things happen but this 'bug' is so obvious and massive that it boggles the mind how it got through and that kinda bugs me. Let's just hope the team is actively working on it and will push an emergency update and is taking steps to update their testing criteria. For now it's XP11 for me. :)
-
I would have assumed that an emergency patch would have been done to add the buildings back to NTTR this weekend? I guess not? What is the ETA on repairing the map to a playable state?
-
"issue" is reported? I can confirm this colossal issue makes the main map unusable. I would venture to say this is well beyond an issue but ok... I know it's beta and all but let's try and test things a little next time before patching

I've never even heard of the SO. I guess that means they aren't doing a very good job at marketing it. I assume that DCS and XP11 etc all support this thing? How is the desktop software now compared to the Rift's which has really gotten nice in the past year?

I don’t think there is any copying going on from other versions during the upgrade. The upgrade process downloads everything from the torrents. It does not copy anything from any other versions. At least in two of my upgrades here.
-
Yes there was 11GB in the _downloads folder which I deleted. Thanks for that tip bignewy! Still huge sim though.
-
My DCS 2.5 openbeta folder is 111GB. Is that right?? Thing thing is huge! 12 years of FSX and all the orbx addons etc and my FSX folder isn't even this big. I wanted to make sure this was right because it is hampering my ability to juggle multiple versions of DCS during this update period because my SSD is almost full.
-
Ive updated 2 PCs now and neither of them pull the files from 2.2. 1.5 updates to 2.5 and then after it is done it shows the download manager needs my other modules and then it torrents them to the tune of 40GB and 2 or 3 more hours of download time. I have 1Gb internet speeds to the desktop as well and rarely exceed 2Mbit/s download speeds to the DCS torrent servers. Sigh...
-
This is silly talk. You don’t need 32GB to run DCS... I have 16 and run it fine with high settings in VR and it runs very smooth.
-
I’m not turning off DS. DS with AA is what I am talking about. There does not appear to be a way to get AA in DCS VR by using the NVCP. AA is apparently only working by using the setting in game which takes a lot of frames away when you are using DS and in VR you need every frame you can get.
-
FXAA and any AA settings for override in the NVCP do not work for me in VR. The only AA that actually works in game is the setting inside DCS. I tried override and forcing all settings in the NVCP to no avail.
-
There has been an incorrect sense of speed in DCS for many years now imo. Doing 100 knots looks more like about 60mph. 300 knots in a jet looks more like 100mph. Always been that way. FSX is the same way. Probably some kind of thing with sims on how the brain interprets them.
-
I only got about 5 minutes in it lastnight and it looked awesome. Only thing I am not sure about is the trees and they look flat until you get right up on them. Almost like sprites. Maybe it's a setting or something? Oh and the clouds roll and twirl around still so not sure if the new clouds are implemented or not?
-
Will 2.5 be another install coexisting with 1.5 and 2.2 or is it a patch for 2.2?
-
No not with the Huey. The mi8 on the other hand seems way more squirrely to me than it used to after having taken a 2 or 3 month break from it.
-
Yeah I saw this bug from 3+ months ago but assumed by now it would have been fixed?? I guess not...

Thank you Artur. What a great program. :) -

Is the L39 supported with this? -
Does shift alt b not work in VR? I only see a little tab that says gns430 when I do it. If not then I think I might be asking for a refund for this module. Not really even a beta imo with all the missing features and bugs and in VR it’s VERY difficult to read in its current dash location.

I got it thank you. It’s very buggy though and the app doesn’t come right out a lot of times. The acrobat app seems to be the only one that is troublesome though. All the other apps pop right out. Wayyy better than kneeboards though.
