  1. Yeah I am not holding my breath too. They definitely hold our money tho, so joke is on us. TBH I don't have "such is life" attitude (wish I had), unfortunately they prey on my stupidity/lack of competition. The moment there is one they won't see a penny from me. They probably will say that I can cancel, which is pretty much an equivalent of saying "fu, if you don't like it, don't buy it" to a customer - they can only do it because there is no alternative, but this is going to end at some point.
  2. I wonder why the detents are removed - if there was a design flaw, how they can guarantee that current V1 and V2 owners don't run into not serviceable problems sooner or later.
  3. They had 2+ restocks of CM2 grip, it's currently in stock and 17 March pre-order is still listed as "paid". Yeah, I know, I've paid for it on March 17th while they were happily selling stock to people who didn't pre-order for last 2 months. How about ending dodgy business practices and shipping it? I am losing my patience with them. I wish VKB or someone else did get their s..t together and put out a real competition. I'd switch in a second.
  4. It wasn't a terrible idea of yours. If was a terrible handling of the business by Virpil. From what I see they basically took the money for pre-orders to finance current production, leaving people who pre-ordered waiting. They told me they going to ship CM2 grip I've paid for on March 17th, tomorrow, May 10th. They have really :pain: business practices.
  5. Mine has the same play, it's pretty annoying.
  6. Pimax will be dead in a couple of months if they don't do something radical - 1.5 headsets coming out this month from reputable companies with great software support are on par or better. I am not sure why people bought it in first place, I guess it's thirst for better clarity in VR, but resolution is only one of many factors. I am holding off for a month of two with Index - initial reports say it suffers from god rays quite a lot, so I'll have to try one in person before I buy it. On paper it sounds great for DCS and other sims.
  7. I'd buy it at approx. half the price. Sounds like a VR headset which finally makes sense to use and not look like blurry mess. They need to get this out of prototype.
  8. I've pre-ordered a CM2 grip only and it hasn't shipped yet, while they happily send out non-preordered grips. Really poor show Virpil. I am really losing my patience here.
  9. It's a marketing thing - you don't want people who just spent $70 on a module to come back and say that their newly acquired uber missile doesn't work or is not an insta kill. Don't fool yourself that these missiles and many other systems operate like their real life counterparts - they don't, tons of it is make believe.
  10. I'd not do anything. Don't fix it if it's not broken. I have 100s hours on mine with a detent set (incl. 100+ carrier landing and AARs where you use throttle extensively, in F18 case right around detent) and there is zero change in feel from new.
  11. There is virtually zero support for VR from AAA games publishers. Hardware designers (Oculus, HTC and others like Samsung) aim at completely different market, standalone, low quality, but easily accessible headsets. We will have to wait a good couple of years (5+) for VR in DCS to not to be unreadable blur. Having said that, ff you have money to burn, by all means get Rift ( i did, no regrets), it's really good fun, but doesn't replace high res 2D monitor.
  12. It works as advertised. Unless you want to disassemble it and put it behind the glass to look at there is no problem. I have their products for a year now, quite heavily used, they are still fine, nothing is broken etc. Their design could be better, especially the throttle (massive, obnoxious branding and a couple of gimmicky buttons), nothing major tho. and Virpil throttle is order of magnitude better than anything else available on the market (I have a couple of others) On a side note I wish there was a proper competition out there. Both Virpil and especially VKB can't cope with demand and their sale practices are really bad and they are not up to standards offered even by average retail company (Virpil if you read this, please don't take it personally :) ) . Virpil seems to have a bit better post sale support though. As of now, I'd never buy from either of them if they had a semi-decent competition (eg. Thrustmaster offering proper metal base), but I guess I am adding to the problem ;), because I am buying. Having said that, they all seem to be small shops with no capital/stock ability whatsoever.
  13. I'd not worry about VR to be honest. Any text is hard to read in VR unless it is massive size, which I don't think it's plausible in the cockpit, and, eventually, in about 10 years from now we will have proper per eye resolution, so it will fix itself. In 2D, @4k and 2k everything on front panel is readable without a problem while sitting about arm length from the monitor (34" and 27" respectively). Side panels are readable wit a bit of zoom, as in any other aircraft in DCS. I have 20/20 vision. I am not a fan of exterior tear and wear, but I don't find interior wear excessive and it doesn't hinder usability of the cockpit for me.

    Hook simulation

Yeah, that's the point - I can't do split S trap yet, so I never mentioned it :):pilotfly: TBH I don't mind that much, it's not like I am training for real carrier operations, just curious.

    Hook simulation

I can fly precise approaches, it's not a rocket science. Lot's of people don't do it and still land fine, that's why I asked. As I said, I rarely if ever get a bolter when setting up the plane for ridiculous AoA.
  16. Is it only me or the hook is in "easy mode". I did some testing and I get hooked 10 out of 10 when "landing" at AoA around 2-3 degrees.
  17. What exactly do you expect Vulkan implementation in DCS to improve? Vulkan is low level API (just like DX12) and a lot depends on implementation in a specific engine. The complexity of such task is very high, it's a very deep, low level engine change, comparable to making an engine multi threaded. It may or may not improve performance in certain areas. In some cases it may make things worse, gfx cards drivers already do a lot of optimizations similar to what one would normally implement via Vulkan/DX12. I am not sure there are any specific DCS driver optimization tho, but every other major game has them. On top of that, there is very few if any commercially available "sim" games which are as complex as DCS. Bottom line, if anyone thinks that Vulkan (or any other API) will all of suddenly improve how DCS runs on obsolete hardware, it's just not going to happen.
  18. No it wouldn't. HMDs have fixed focal point which is far away. If you can see objects around 1.5-2 meters away from you clearly, you don't need to wear glasses when using VR HMD.
  19. I'd hold off. Wait until next gen of GFX cards is out (3080ti ?). At the moment there is no hardware out there which would support higher res per eye than Vive Pro at useabe (in DCS) performance. Sadly, VR fizzled and stagnated, the adoption rate is abysmal, no one is seriously investing in gamer grade VR atm, all you will get is very minor upgrades, standalone and half-arsed attempts like Pimax.. We probably have to wait 3-5 years for something useful which is not blurry mess like current gen. Until then, I'd stick to Rift, maybe get Odyssey+ if you are in the US. That's what I have done.
  20. I didn't forget and I still think it was and is unacceptable, despite being rather happy with the products. I have people over trying the setup and while the quality of it is very good, I always make sure that people know what they are getting into when trying to buy it. Problem is Virpil have monopoly and it is a niche market. Virpil has improved a bit, market is slowly but surely saturating for them, so availability is a bit better, but considering the history, they will keep pushing "upgrades", have "restocks" lasting 10 minutes etc. I still want CM2 grip obviously, but won't be waking up again at 5 am to get it after today's fiasco.
  21. Really bad experience during today restock. Added CM2 to the basket, got stuck at checkout due to their server being slow and over next 3 minutes CM2 went out of stock. Again, while the products are good, their sales service is ridiculously bad. Sadly, they can do it all they want there isn't really any competition.
  22. @Cyph3r Any chances for existing owners of CM grip to get a guaranteed pre-order? I am not asking for a discount or "upgrade", just for a guarantee I can get it first batch without stalking the website :megalol:
  23. Sometime in the middle of 2017 most if not all AAA game publishers decided that current gen VR is a no go. Almost all AAA VR development has been stopped. What you see out there now is indies, hardware manufacturers investments (Oculus/Sony) very often connected to a specific R&D needs and "labour of love" - someone in a studio somewhere really likes VR and implements a VR mode in a game after hours. "High end" gaming VR is a failure, I strongly doubt we will see 2nd gen headsets until another "resurrection"" in 10 years or so. Mobile/standalone VR has some chances due to movies/porn and it may lead to something useable (eg. not a blurry mess) in DCS when mobile tech improves. Yes, it's great for simulation, therefore there are professional solutions being worked on out there, but they will be outside of price range of regular customer, even if they are compatible with games like DCS. There is a chance that some boutique company will make something better than current gen (no, not Pimax). Look at the situation with high-end sticks/throttles - this is the same thing here, except the investment and r&d needed is much higher. Bottom line - there won't be anything better than current 1(.5) gen available anytime soon. Check back in 10 years. p.s. AR on the other hand...
  24. If you don't have 10+ hours a week to fly this game, your experience will be very limited and hindered. it can still be enjoyable, if expectations are kept low. it's a nature of the game. it attempts to simulate complex systems and real world procedures where learning curve is super steep (Case I recovery?) and real operations are 95/5 ratio of waiting/studying charts to anything which resembles action. it's true for many other games, like MMOs, some competitive shooters etc. and many other hobbies like playing an instrument. They need substantial, constant time investment to be enjoyable. Bottom line, If I had only a hour a week, I'd not even bother.
  25. Same here,VFR landing instant actions on NTTR/Persian Gulf (will check Caucasus later) 40-50% or more FPS drop while on the ground, especially when looking towards open hangars - lots of Hornets parked there. Issue occurs both in VR and 2D
