  1. GCAS has several warnings, many of which are at elevations that can be changed to suit the needs of the pilot. Though the terrain elevation is set in the DTC and read that way for terrain collision warnings.
  2. Who needs smoke generators when your engines do it anyways? (Nice vid)
  3. I think that they should release it on their FTP without telling anyone in an announcement. That would really make things interesting.
  4. No, I am fine with commercial pilots, there has been extensive research behind the multitude of airline crashes within the continental United States (and outside, especially in Canada.) that proved them to be preventable had the pilots developed good CRM and retained their private pilot skills. I will try and see if I can't dig some articles up for you later. There have, in some cases, been crashes where pilots with one broken instrument, have taken an aircraft from 30,000' to the ground in stall without ever recognizing what was going on. This is why the FAA and NTSB have been pressuring the airlines so hard with providing pilots with upset training. Just to be clear though, many of my good friends are commercial pilots. Though most of them have extensive time in a Pitts, or an Extra 300. In reference to the sims though, DCS is actually more accurate than most of the commercial $150/hr flight sims that I have flown over the years. F.e the Cirrus sim had terrible ground handling (Think FC2 on ice), and slow speed flight results in an absolute mess. Don't even get me started on the instrument panel. The secondary steam altimeter jumps in 300' increments and the static lag is FAR overdone in the sim. I haven't "flown" that particular one though for quite some time, but I remember it to be an interesting experience.. IMO, only really useful when it comes to learning procedures and systems management ala A-10C DTS, except bigger, and with an actual cockpit. I think the biggest thing that people discount is the effect of "flying with your butt". You learn really quickly flying aerobatic aircraft, that a lot of corrections are able to be made IRL because you can feel the onset of them some time before they actually occur. Without proprioceptive sensors, I would expect flying in a Mustang to be as challenging, if not more challenging to me IRL than in the sim. People without a lot of seat time in an aircraft with no gyros may not understand this readily, or it may seem absurd, but it makes a world of difference for people who spend a significant amount of time relying on them as their sole attitude and acceleration reference.
  5. So sad, for a minute there I thought the Il-76 was going to win :(
  6. What, so the cook can burn it? :P
  7. "What you should've done is land that plane! You don't own the.. Oh, you did land it when we told you? Sorry, my bad."

I assume this is only for the cockpit model? Or is this going to be submitted to ED for use in their exterior F-15E as well? Looks gorgeous at any rate!
  9. Okay, here goes. This kit is not all inclusive and assumes that you a. have Windows 7 64 Bit already, and b. that you have an ATX compatible case already. Sorry I went just a few $'s over. I tried to keep it as tight to the $775 mark as I could. ----------- Hitachi DeskStar 7K1000.C 1TB HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145304 EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826 Corsiar TX650 power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 Thermal paste. Don't be afraid to ask. Edit: People will probably have differing/better recommendations than I, especially in the GPU department, as I tend to make extremely large leaps and bounds, and cannot always predict the performance of intermediary products as I tend to end up simply skipping over them in favor of the newer graphics cards. e.g. I just recently (back in March) made the transition from a AMD HD 5870 to an Nvidia GTX 680. Talk about a quantum leap.
  10. Yeah, with your budget you would not be getting very much. I'd say a more realistic budget is about $1600-$1800. If you really cannot raise the bar, I will whip something up for you when I get back from dinner. Though it will not give you anywhere near "great" (60+) FPS, and in heavy scenarios it is more than likely to be "poor" (10-15) FPS, or below.
  11. Make sure it is LEFT control, and not right that you are pressing. It won't work if you try and use right control to do it. Aside from that, I just flew your track and assigned the SPI to my TGP perfectly fine using nothing but the keyboard, so it does work, and the mission does not seem to be bugged. Again, when you fly it tomorrow, keep the TAD open and wait for the SPI terrace to jump to the TGP diamond before you let go of LCTRL or UPARROW. If the terrace does not pin to the TGP diamond, it would indicate that the TGP is NOT yet your SPI.
  12. I have it on good authority that ED is having memory issues and have allotted all of the addressable memory that a 64 bit register can use. Thus they are waiting for the new series of 128 bit processors and related operating systems to be released before they can move along with the FC3 release. It might be a while, so you might want to crack one open. If you don't drink, well, you might want to start :D
  13. RGR, but aren't the best things really the ones worth staying up for?
  14. No, it isn't. Bring the track to about where the TGP says 5.5 nmi from the first engagement. At this point (.5 miles before the behavior you describe occurs), the TGP is NOT the SPI. What you did was: 1. Slew TGP to SPI (steerpoint OMEGA). 2. Find targets and attempt to track a BTR-90 using point track mode. 3. Once target is being tracked, you open up your MAV screen and begin a dive towards the target. 4. At 5.0 NMi away from the target, you press China Hat Forward Long. 5. Pressing the above key combination slews all of your sensors to the selected steerpoint. This is happening precisely because you have not set your TGP as SPI. Again, this needs to be done, and is accomplished by holding down the key combination of "LCTRL + UP ARROW". This needs to be held down, and you will know when your TGP is SPI, because on your TAD, the terrace bracket that indicates current SPI will jump to the diamond which represents your TGP. BTW China Hat Forward Short "V" is used mainly to zoom in and out on the TGP, or switch between expanded modes on the TAD. China Hat Aft Short "C" however, cages the selected sensor (e.g. that sensor will be "pinned" to its longitudinal axis or more generally where the aircraft is pointing).
  15. Actually, if you want a little advice on your general flying as well, you are trying to engage well within the engagement envelope of the Mavericks. You should be launching at stand-off ranges of about 6.5-8 nm. At the ranges you are getting at, you risk all sorts of bad stuff. Also, while it is generally considered preferable to launch the Mavericks with the sensors aligned to the bore e.g. straight in, it is acceptable to launch them a little off boresight. This type of engagement can come in handy when you consider the area to be unsafe at low levels, and generally does not trade all that much PK for the ability to stay up high without diving in to get shot at by AAA. However you need to make sure that the floating crosshairs are at least inside the edges of the seeker limits before you fire otherwise the missile will simply go ballistic.
  16. Got it, what you are doing is in fact, the wrong procedure for slewing sensors to your current SPI. What you are doing is pressing China Hat Aft Long, which resets the TGP to follow your current SPI, or if it is your current SPI, it resets it to your steerpoint. What you need to be doing is holding down China Hat Forward Long "V" in order to slave all sensors to SPI. If the TGP is not your SPI, you need to make sure that happens with they key command "LCTRL + Up arrow" (hold it down for several seconds). This needs to be done before you can expect your sensors to follow the TGP. I hope that brought to light the issue at hand. Cheers, Pyro Edit: It looks like in one or more runs, your TGP was not even set SPI. This absolutely needs to be done if you expect the results you are looking for.
  17. Better than living in Vostok :D
  18. excellent!
  19. I'm curious as to why the name was changed.
  20. Noooooo! "Must spread rep" :D
  21. Silly rabbit, you can't paint an aircraft with crayons! :D
  22. At this rate I expect the trailer to come after the release. Especially since Amraam is bogged down with trying to get the MiG-21 Bis trailer out today.
  23. Yeah, until someone makes a skin out of these
  24. Uhh.. yeah, probably. No, sure, just set it to fixed gun mode. Who needs missiles anyways, I thought 'Firebirds' was a 100% accurate description of Apache usage.. :P
  25. Honestly it sounds like you are trying to slave sensors to SPI. This is accomplished by holding down the China Hat Forward button "V" by default. The problem you are having is most likely tied into you not having your TGP set as SPI when you are doing this. Make sure your intended acquisition sensor (TGP, MAV, HUD) is set as SPI by first setting it as SOI and then holding down the TMS Switch Forward or "L-Ctrl + Up". Really the best course of action if you are experiencing continued issues and misunderstandings is to consult the manual for a good couple of hours. If you have a phone or tablet that you can save it to, this may come in handy in case you need to consult them during a mission.
