Syrian Mig-21s had some sort of forward-emitting jammers in 1982. From what I’ve heard they worked pretty well on the AIM-7 (don’t know the exact type) from Israeli F-15s. No official source for that, just word of mouth from people who were involved on the Israeli side. Of course it may be just an excuse why many AIM-7s missed.
-
Thanks, these tables are illuminating. The total number of AIM-7E no motor fire (NMF) and no launch is 39 vs. total 27 kills. So it was more likely that the missile will go stupid than it killing anything... Even the AIM-9E had 15 cases of going stupid vs. just 6 kills.

Would you consider making the E carrier capable IN GAME please?
Bozon replied to Baco's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Most responders completely miss-read the OP - he said “while we wait for the navy phantom”. He is asking to be able to pretend that the E is a naval phantom and operate it from a carrier, until a proper navy model is available (which will be a long wait). I can relate to that, but this is not a good idea to mess with the model and add imaginary features that will need to be removed later. A mod on the other hand could probably do it, and this is up to the community not Heatblurr. -

Sound like a mod job. -
@SilentGunThanks for relaying Cobra’s message. We can cut a little slack, it was a difficult year for them, and I prefer a delayed full-featured successful release over a hasted half-baked one.

Removing the outboard wing cannons will probably do more for the Anton as a fighter than the EN boost. Regardless, both options should be available.

Mosquito template is released! Does that mean we should expect the Mosquito campaign soon?

investigating Starter/Boost-Coil cover closes after releasing button
Bozon replied to Nereid's topic in Bugs and Problems
The makers of the Mosquito have an obsession with covers and latches. They all require a separate action, so activating anything with a cover or a latch requires 2 key binds. This is silly and pointless. I don’t have an accurate sim-pit, and neither do 99% of the module owners. The keys and buttons I bind to look nothing like the buttons with covers or levers with latches. These extra covers and latches operations are just nuisance, not “immersion” or “realism” in any way. When I click a button bound to the engine fire extinguisher or release of the drop tanks, I expect the operation to work - the raising of the cover and press of the button is one action. Same goes for the flaps and undercarriage levers and their latches. For mouse operations on the clickable cockpit, lifting the cover and pressing the button as 2 clicks if fine as is. -
Mosquito FB.VI May 1943 (Merlin 25 prob. around August?) Spitfire IX July 1942 (our subvariant is a bit later 1943). Both the Mossie FB.VI and Spit IX served in large numbers to the end of the war, so they are not out of place in late 1944/45 scenarios, though a bit outdated. The Channel and Normandy maps however are a bit early for the P-51D, P47-D30, 109K4, and 190D9 - these fit the battle of the bulge. During the Normandy campaign (and before) the P-51 were “B” and P-47 were pre D25 Razorback models, and 109 were G6/G14. The FW190-A8, Spit IX, and Mossie are good for these maps. So, if we get 109G6 we have a good representation of the LW main fighters of the 1944 period. The G6 served in large numbers till the end of the war, the 109K4 never reached the numbers to be the “main” LW fighter.

P-51B will sell. More than an La-7 I dare to bet. Not as well as the “D” which is the most iconic WWII fighter for many people. On the other hand, to make a “B” much of the coding of internal system can be reused from the “D”. It is still a lot of work, but not nearly as much as a completely different plane, so it may be viable from profit aspect. I want a P-51B and a Razorback P-47 (D-23 or earlier models). These were the true significant American western front fighters, not the bubble top ones that arrived for the victory photos, and they are all that people remember today. Then a 109G6 and FW-190A5/6 to match them. And throw in a Typhoon for the RAF.

Will there be a f-4e terminator (2020) variant?
Bozon replied to Mini.Adam's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Just to get the record straight - the E has by far the most air to air kills (world wide) of all Phantom variants. So, not just a bomb mule. The 70s were the age of the Phantom and “E” was the prime air superiority fighter of many air forces. As a prime attack plane the “E” soldiered on into the 80s before being replaced - again, world wide. The “more updated” variants place the Phantom in an era when it really is an obsolete air frame that is struggling to keep up to date, reduced to a bomb truck and unable to effectively dogfight its contemporaries. -
Yes, yes, and yes.

The kneeboard map is very large scale, except around your home base. That “cheat” gives you a rough location when you are lost and may be useful when you fly high or perform an area fighter sweep, but it is not useful to find a point target or a nav point, nor is it at the details level required for NOE flight. This is the equivalent of trying to navigate on a desktop globe.

Now try to plot a course on F10, beyond placing the ruler. Annotating time for dead reckoning? Marking orientation features and check points? Noting DF angle measurements? I need to be able to plan and plot this ahead, before I drop to 50 feet, because then I cannot mess with F10 beyond brief looks of no more than 2-3 seconds. These are not even Mosquito specific features, but she needs them more than most.

Well, currently the Mosquito and Gazelle(?) are the two multi-crew modules in DCS that have no AI-crew. F-14, Mi-24, AH-64 have AI-crew functionality. UH-1 has some extremely basic AI pilot IIRC (I don’t have it). AI-crew is pretty new to ED-made models, so there is still hope. IIRC, a mosquito navigator AI was mentioned at some point in the past, but we have no indication that this is on the roadmap at all, and the Mosquito has been on EA for quite some time with no new major features added (not even the Very pistol, for which we had radio menu options from day 1). Don’t hold your breath, just saying.

Razbam have a knack for choosing to develop cool models I am not likely to buy. Following this trend they won’t make Mirage III. I have high hopes from Aviron. If they do pick up the Mirage III at least they for sure will do the correct variant - IIIcj. Aerges are good developers - they will do a Spanish Mirage III, but I can live with that. Having said that, I will buy any FF Mirage III variant from any developer.

For multiplayer you have to go beta branch. 4YA mentioned above is the most populated server and it is generally good - but not so much for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are only based in England, so every sortie means minimum ~20 minutes of flight across the channel. This is the Normandy area, not the narrowest part of the channel. Navigation is a challenge, especially at 50 feet, but this is an important part of the fun for me. My other issue with this server is that it tends to reset when I am logged in , airborne, and am half way across the channel. NO.20 is also a great server. It has more AI elements and a more dynamic front line system. Mosquitoes are available on the continent so you get to the action quicker. You can see your own icon on the F10 map, so navigation is easy - both good and bad. This server is much less popular than 4YA, especially on Euro evenings.

Imagine if you will, you have the MH-6M Little Bird
Bozon replied to Gunfreak's topic in DCS Core Wish List
MH-6, AH-6, OH-6, MD-500, this series of helicopters has so many variants and designations it’s mind boggling. Any of these would be one of the few helicopters modules that I will surely buy. I have a particular soft spot for the MD-500 TOW toting “Defender”. -

One significant contributing factor is that currently the “feel” of the mosquito is very bland. You can’t feel G or the stress on the airframe - there is no noise variation with airspeed, no vibrations or rattling sounds near the stall, no creaking sounds as you bend the airframe. This combined with the sensitive elevator means that at high speeds you easily over G without even realizing it. FB.VI is still officially in early access. I really REALLY hope that they are still working on it and other missing features. At the current state, as much as I love her, the Mosquito feels as an unfinished product.

AI Thud is a must to complement the coming cold-war era player modules. A full fidelity module will also be highly welcomed!

This totally triggers my OCD - Fix the #### cockpit! It is so wrong it hurts my brain!

The torpedo carrying mosquito is a later post-war model, that is quite different from our FB.VI. The P-47 can only sort-of carry more - this is a pretty crazy overload option that can only be carried to short range. I don’t know if it was actually used in combat. Don’t forget that the Mosquito also carries more potent projectile armament built in, as well as a 2nd crewman, and lots of special equipment - to far longer ranges than the P47D. What matters for the FB.VI is its deck speed. How fast it flies at 22 kft or higher to achieve max TAS numbers is completely irrelevant to its mission. Still, our Mosquito is about 15 mph (or even more) too slow in its sea level speed. We have the performance numbers of FB.VI with the saxophone exhaust ducts and flame shrouds, while the 3D model is clearly the stub tubes with no shrouds. The latter is the configuration used in day missions such as day rangers and maritime strike. I posted a thread about this in the Bugs and Problems sub-forum.

Yes! Online gameplay needs a tool to plan my route on the ground. The mosquito has a navigator that can’t draw a friggin flight path on a map… Sharing the markings with other players is nice-to-have second priority - make it local first so we can get it sooner.

The Israelis had no problem using the F-4E to make middle east skies rain mig parts. That video in the original post was awful.
