  1. ACMI pod https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_combat_maneuvering_instrumentation
  2. So, is he a structural engineer? Or maybe material physicist? If he is, his argumentation is very weak - non-existent. It doesnt flex because he says so? Classical fallacy of appealing to an authority. =mac= provided real arguments.
  3. So I should believe some random person on forum and not my own eyes?
  4. Do you think that simulator sessions irl include start ups and shut downs? The whole point of simulators is to save time and money, every thing that is not important for a session is skipped. Why do you have problem people using DCS like it's a real simulator?
  5. Technically, Kuznetsov is not supercarrier, it's more like a cruiser capable of carrying aircraft.
  6. Why would anyone fly F-18 behind KC-135 in wake turbulence zone. Makes no sense.
  7. That shouldn't be a problem since aar aircraft and equipment are designed in that way to prevent disturbance as much as possible. You will not find wake turbulence under belly of KC135, or around basket position behind KC130. Lack of peripheral vision is really detrimental here.
  8. Btw, if you do not use autostart and autostop, you can rewrite macros to do something more useful.
  9. I don't think that's the case. If that is true, switching from RWS to LTWS would require 2 or more hits first to build track, so at least 5 seconds. In game, it's instant, so it's obvious that it calculates trackfiles in background even with pure RWS.
  10. I do manual starts because they are faster. If I need hot aircraft, I just set it that way in ME.
  11. Of course that practice on old equipment counts when you buy a new one. I just wanted to say that, frustratingly, you can practice a lot and get nowhere due various reasons.
  12. I believe that's true. Track files are just hidden. That's correct.
  13. I disagree. With old non-defective joystick I was unable to aar after god know how many hours of practice. When I bought new joystick, I've got it in 5 minutes. Simply, some mechanisms are incapable of producing fine and precise motion near center of joystick. Additionally, throttle range plays big role. Imagine doing F-16 aar with throttle slider that have 2cm of range. Impossible.
  14. Just keep in mind that without decent equipment it might be impossible to do AAR, so it's not necessarily about pilot skills.
  15. Well, that's kinda true but it's not big difference: Hornet needs 2-3 clicks on MFD, while Hog needs 4.
  16. How is that? Hog can display any page at any display and it doesn't enforce layouts automatically.
  17. RWS is not low fidelity by any mean. Without LTWS it just provides you "more raw" view. You can set scan area in RWS as well. ACM modes have different scan patterns and they are created for close combat where standard bvr scanning method doesn't work well because cone section at close distances is too small. All ACM modes are automatic so no real advantage using AACQ. AACQ is not ACM mode. You should utilize the best scanning pattern for required job. There is HACQ mode you missed that is basically boresight movable by HMS. You can use SCS switch to move diamond, but not all pages are capable. For example, you can use SCS with radar display and SA display. There are many bugs with radar currently, so maybe you've just hit one of them and lost some functionality.
  18. Wags said that DCS F-18 flight model is altered compared to the real one to protect real life operations of the aircraft. It's not unreasonable to assume that flight models of other DCS products are altered as well. I mean, why would you protect F-18 flight model, but not protect A-10 or F-16 flight models, both aircraft being in active service?
  19. It's a bug. Anti-skid allows only ~10% of slip ratio for optimal braking performance, so it would never leave marks that tick.
  20. Do not learn anything weapon systems related. It's changing every week. I've had to relearn TGP 3-4 times, jdams 2-3 times, laser bombs 2 times, mavericks 2 times, INS system 2-3 times, ACM modes 3-4 times, missile performance million times - it constantly shifts my timelines, and so on, you get the point. Waste of time. Even flight model is not finished, but at least it doesn't change every week. Someone suggested at this forum that learning systems as they are being introduced will be easier. Completely untrue.
  21. I use joystick with left hand, and throttle levers with right. In that config, it's easy to use mouse with right hand as throttle doesn't need constant attention. I've mapped LALT + C and several other significant commands at mouse buttons. It works flawlessly.
  22. Good for you. I wasn't. Mav head doesn't really follow TGP designation, it constantly drifts away without any kind of ground stabilization. and then snaps at completely irrelevant objects despite TGP being centered at vehicle. Useless.
  23. Because of all that clutter it introduces on display. I never use it, if I need more info I switch to TWS.
