F15 navigation is just fine. It covers basics. The only thing missing to have complete radnav functionality is suspend flightplan and unlock OBS.

Not good practice to not drop empty tanks. Simply, you can hit someone on ground, and there's no unlimited pile of tanks in base. Of course, if you need to drop them, you drop them, especially in combat since they are limiting your performance significantly.
-
It's not good practice to drop tanks just because you do not need them anymore, but in game you can do it. For take off, just rotate gently at 120kts to 10 degrees pitch (the W symbol on HUD), and hold it there. It will fly itself when it's ready.

@PanamaRed You're trying to unstick while being too slow. You're full of fuel with 3 bags of fuel. In that config 21 units of AoA would be achieved at 180-190kts. Bellow 180kts buffet onset, bellow 150kts probably stall.

Landing Patterns: Where to Make the Break and CRPs and be on Slope?
=4c=Nikola replied to bonesvf103's topic in DCS 2.9
Yea, it's CTR class D airspace from ground to 2600ft AMSL. CTRs are usually class D, but depending on local legislation they can be C (like in Georgia IRL) as well. (HX) means working hours are not specified - not relevant for DCS but it's nice immersion detail. -
Landing Patterns: Where to Make the Break and CRPs and be on Slope?
=4c=Nikola replied to bonesvf103's topic in DCS 2.9
Break position is per regulation, or per SOP. Just do it how you like. CRPs are purely visual. You're supposed to look outside and recognize visual marks on the ground. TACAN approach is simple, select inbound radial, start at 3000ft above terrain, 10DME out, and place FPA at -3 degrees on hud. You should lose 300ft every 1DME, so make crosschecks at every 1DME, and correct if necessary. System minima should be 250ft above ground so do not fly bellow that if you do not see runway. When deciding inbound radial, keep in mind F10 map gives you "true course". You need to convert it to magnetic. One more thing, TACANs usually are not in runway axis, so you can add degree or two to make your approach slightly offset to give you better angle for visual maneuver once you are visual. For example, Senaki true course is 095, magnetic is 089, I would fly on inbound course 090 (radial 270). -
Difficulty - coming in time of the Hornet
=4c=Nikola replied to Eisprinzessin's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Hornet and Harrier share same acquisition and targeting logic. A10C and F-16 share same same acquisition and targeting logic (minus A/A capability in A10). Naturally, it will be easier to transfer between similar aircraft. -

Great formatting! -

It's really nothing fancy: In top row you have 4 airports and reset button. In bottom row you have 3 waypoints, return point and the "RO" button I know nothing about. And yea, in DCS it has magical ability to store all waypoints defined in mission editor.
-
It would indeed, but I guess it's so low on priority list they're not even thinking about it.

3d model looks very nice and I'm sure it will be fun to fly, but I will not buy this one. I do not need one more modern blue aircraft. They're just expanding red/blue era gap.

Disable RWR notification for AMRAAM radar.
=4c=Nikola replied to =4c=Nikola's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Not my words. I've quoted US air force pilot. -
Disable RWR notification for AMRAAM radar.
=4c=Nikola replied to =4c=Nikola's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That's not what he said. He was very clear that RWR would not pick up an active amraam. -
Disable RWR notification for AMRAAM radar.
=4c=Nikola replied to =4c=Nikola's topic in DCS Core Wish List
2. In that part he was talking about aircraft radar and different mods, not the missile. One more evidence is that the other pilot (which shot down 3 aircraft) did not object, so he probably agrees. -
Disable RWR notification for AMRAAM radar.
=4c=Nikola replied to =4c=Nikola's topic in DCS Core Wish List
No disrespect, but he shot down two aircraft with that missile launched from elite aircraft which he would able to have access to only if he was very knowledgeable. -
This guy at 1:19:50 says AMRAAM radar is not powerful enough to trigger RWR warning. Can you disable that feature as DCS is inconsistent with the testimony?

Nice job! You would never take off unarmed with half tank of fuel in such situation irl. I've tried the mission, it's really easy, just fly with mach 2.5 via route at 50k feet and you will arrive to destination in 10min, uneventful. But, you can try to play the mission several times and try different things. There is mountainous area bellow so you can try to sneak through there very low, but it's not the most optimal solution. You can use ECM in DCS to reduce the range SAM can shoot at you and you can use it to deny TWS shots at high range. Additionally, it can disturb your opponent to sort your group in timely fashion, so they fall behind their timeline and become prey.

Don't go low with eagle ever. It's low speed, low range, low SA situation you do not want to be in. With long shooting platforms like MiG-25 and F-14 you really need to play long game. I do not really play against AI but I would assume they've launched long range and I would start applying defensive solutions at long range. If you supply the mission we can try it.
-
Have you tried to deflect ailerons into the wind? I do not know about real one and whether FC3 F-15 matches it, but in the game 25kts xwind rollouts are uneventful, except aircraft doesn't want to aerobrake.

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
=4c=Nikola replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
I already asked mig-29 pilots. They've said that such aircraft would not be considered airworthy. They even said that aircraft with such flying characteristics wouldn't be accepted by any airforce. They say that real mig-29 is really easy and fun to control, no oscillations, no unexpected moments, it just flies where you point the stick. -
I'm in third camp: "I don't really care". I'm just amused with how inconsistently people apply logic to rationalize their wishes. Some of them regularly fly 2007 F-16 on 1980s Caucasus map, park Nimitz class carrier in Black Sea, use unrealistic TDC option for F-18, fly overweight, land overweight, over-stress airframe like every flight, rearm+refuel+repair in 3 minutes, but then cry on forums how attaching X weapon on Y aircraft is unrealistic. And really, it's fine, everyone has its own perception what a simulator should do and its own way to use it. There's no right or wrong with sandbox games.
