Thanks for your input, but I think you are missing the point of the query. -
Best benchmarks for measuring DCS performance?
Hoirtel replied to Hoirtel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks, I'll keep a look out for that. I think heaven has fallen out of the common list these days, but I might be wrong. Yes difficult to test with the rest, mostly CPU workloads. I think have a good feeling for when DCS is going to struggle and why so I am looking for some benchmarks that can reflect a steady SP modest state, which is what I use to tune my settings. A server like enigmas would be impossible to test against consistently! -

This only helps if the information you want has been added to a radio message, usually co-ords. Then you can't actually add them into the aircraft from the esc menu, this is the case even if they are in the briefing. For those of us on MP servers the ability to store co-ords and add them into the aircraft, while in VR, is an absolute game changer. Considering we cannot create our own waypoints or do anything like this unless in the ME, this simple pad helps fill a major hole in the DCS MP experience. -
Best benchmarks for measuring DCS performance?
Hoirtel replied to Hoirtel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hmm, Well, efficiency is important but I would burn (and cool) an extra 200w for a measurable performance gain, even if it is small. The rumours are that 13th gen will be fast but in a 350w mode. This seems a bit nuts compared to AMDs stated TDP but if intel is better for DCS then, its better. You say compare chips in my price range. Yes, that's exactly what I am asking, which benchmarks do this best over just looking at single core perf. Also which GPU benches are best as this is round the corner too. -
Er, no. They are either off, or on

Well, yeah...maybe... also not really. I'm think of comparing 13th gen to AM5. I'm sure they will be trading blows of sorts in certain places and the "correct" decision will come down to what you are actually doing, hence the benchmarks. Also its easy to spend an extra 200 dollars on an imperceptible bit of extra perf. I would avoid that if I can. I mean some of them will surely be closer. I have heard that DCS and flight sims get worked hard by many CPU draw calls. There must be a benchmark that replicates this? I already know that rendering benches are not really applicable, but less sure of the other direction. -
Pretty sure they are the battle damage assessment options, so you can disabled them in the man settings. They are also included in the list of forced settings per mission in the ME.

It exists (as an unofficial mod). Called DCS Scratchpad. Pretty simple, easy to install + works quite well. -
So with the recent launch of AM5 chips I am starting to think about what PC parts I am going actually going to buy. It won't be too long before the new stuff is getting widely reviewed, this includes intel's 13th gen. Down the line this machine will also get a next gen GPU (either brand!) I am never quite sure which of the benchmarks/games that commonly get tested across all the various outlets are most applicable to DCS performance. Does anyone have any ideas? It would be good to have something to look out for that is a comparable workload. DCS is the sole reason for the new build. I'm of course always on the lookout for CPU single core performance results, I think these will still be applicable even if/when DCS becomes multi threaded as it is with other games. I also use DCS in VR exclusively so comparing this is also difficult although previously the biggest Nvidia card I could get was about right! I'm not so sure it will work like this next time.

Binding F10 / F1 to hotas
Hoirtel replied to edmuss's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs - General
Yeah I think I would have to clear everything. 30 quid!? I would try that... Hmmm. -

I've not tried leap motion. I always wonder how it would feel engaging with a cockpit that isnt really there. Do you hands ever collide with things in the real world or so you have to make sure it's clear? -

No I didn't think it did, do you not like the mouse in VR? its pretty easy once you get used to it. -

Yes, Not on changelog and not implemented either. Shame. It would be so especially helpful for this map in particular. Maybe it can be added to a hot fix? Thanks for your efforts @imacken -

Fingers crossed today is the day -
Hmm, I updated to v43 and have had no problems (Q2), but then I am on an FB account anyway - I had to be when I bought it. I've not checked resource use specifically however.

Voiceattack is your friend for VR. All "game" controls can be done by voice alone. F-keys, score, rearming window, esc, pause, kneeboard, whatever you like. Very very helpful and leaves precious hotas buttons for aircraft controls/radios. If panning F10 is possible via the keyboard, then you can set this too. I have voiceattack listen set to the centre push of my warthog, so that is basically my access to everything that isn't in the cockpit. I use the NS430 and the scratchpad mod. Both voice called. Couldn't do VR without it now. -
Thank you for that information, I wasn't able to find that specifically for FWAF elsewhere. I had actually thought that the FWAF button did away with this requirement for single sessions. I am a bit concerned about the security of this, I probably just need to do more research and understand how to keep myself protected while its open. Or just use a public server...

Enigma's Dynamic Cold War Campaign PVP/PVE Server
Hoirtel replied to Enigma89's topic in Multiplayer
Think its all explained here. -
In the mission editor they should both be client. I run missions with client just for single player as I can switch aircraft in same mission. I'm trying to find out what does my friend do when I press the "Launch Multiplayer Server" button. The video on YT (suntsag) seems to miss this as do all the other. I have a horrible feeling it requires some sort of network configurations first.... @TheRigereIf you try this can you let me know how it worked?
-
I'm hoping this is a silly question, I am going to fly with a friend hosted on my PC. I've seen the YT video showing how to make the mission and press the button, but how does my friend connect to this? I actually can't seem to find this information anywhere. I am sure I have missed it. I don't normally ask how to do something before trying myself but don't want to waste time when we finally get lined up. Thanks
-
That's cool. Never seen it, where can you use it?
-
Ummm, you mean hand tracking is not supported over link? That is correct. My Q2 does not have a rift-S mode.....
-
Hand tracking is not supported in DCS

Once you add it up there is a lot of keyboard commands. All "game" commands. Not aircraft operation (unless you want to) There are less required game commands if you only do SP. I used to use vaicom but prefer plain VA for simpler integration.
-
I meant VR headsets. Yes so pointcrtl is really instead of a mouse. You would still need to manage the keyboard separately.
