With respect, and as stated previously, I have only used existing textures as provided by ED in 1) The default Spit livery available here: D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\CoreMods\WWII Units\SpitfireLFMkIX\Textures\SpitfireIXc\SpitfireIX_DIF (your location may vary) and, 2) The official SpitfireIX template. Here is the relevant section of the default skin showing the pipes: Here is the same section, showing the "Dirt" layer from the official template against a neutral grey background: Please compare the above pics to the circled portions in the pic you last posted. The default exhaust stacks are, in my opinion, too uniform in colour and too dark when compared to actual aircraft. In making my exhaust pipe texture I wanted to get an effect like this picture: I made my exhaust pipes by manipulating the existing official textures, like this: I started with the pipes from the default texture: I made a copy of the pipes themselves: I used the colourize tool and adjusted the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness sliders to get a nice Bronze/Brown colour: I lowered the opacity of this layer to 40%. Then, because I wanted some of the pipes to be lighter in colour, I took a copy of the lower pipes and using the Bucket Fill tool set to Colour Erase, I pulled all the black out of it: This gets rid of all the dark areas and leaves the whites, purples and golds which will add highlights. Combining these layers gives you this: And here are all the layers with the default skin underneath: Compare that to my existing template (or my uploaded skins): Now, if your work was contributed to ED and was included in either their default texture or the official template, or both, then yes, I guess I have used it.

412 RCAF Pistol Packin' Momma Spifire IXc MJ959, "Pistol Packin' Momma", coded VZ-W of No. 412 (Falcon) Squadron, RCAF, circa 1944. Flown by Ed "Lucky" Likeness. Available here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2815200/

The example above is pretty accurate as far as the original standards for code letter and serials went, although there are plenty of period photos of non-standard markings! The standard character dimensions were 8:5:1 where 8 is the height, 5 the width, and 1 the stroke width of each line used in making the characters. The gap between each character was to be 1 stroke width. The game isn't that accurate in placement, you end up with a slightly larger gap between the second and third characters if using the decals, but it's close enough ;) The serial number on the Spit was (usually) 8 inches high, so each character would be 5 inches wide, with a stroke width of 1 inch. The larger code letters were (supposed) to be 24 inches high, so, using the same ratio, 15 inches wide, with a stroke width of 3 inches.

A while back I re-did the serial characters for the Spitfire, using a more accurate font. Finally got around to doing another set of serial number characters, this time a stencil style font like the large code letters. There were different styles, this is sort of a conglomeration of what I've seen in period photos. I decided to do the entire alphabet for those who wish to make custom serials. In fact, certain letters (C, I, O, Q, U, Y) were never used, in order to avoid mistakes in identification. Spitfire MK772, coded Y2-P, of No. 442 Squadron, RCAF. Haven't decided if I'll upload as a replacement set, or just include them in certain skins.

Invasion Stripes! This skin should be ideal for mission builders/virtual squadrons, as a single livery can be used for all, with individual code letters and serials added by the game. Includes my (Sky) code letters and serial number characters. Available here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2810301/

Finally finished my Invasion Stripes... the mapping nearly killed me! Anyway, now that the full stripes are done it should be easy to make the other versions seen in the months after D-Day. Made a version specifically for mission builders so you can use codes and serials without having them obscured by the stripes. New liveries to follow.

Beautiful! Nice to see some different colour schemes :)

One of my favourite Spit restorations. If I may offer a suggestion, I believe only the port underside roundel had the yellow surround (if they had any at all in 1940), so as to provide contrast against the night coloured port wing. 1939-1941 was a very interesting period in RAF camouflage and markings history, so many changes and combinations.

It may not be apparent due to the angle the screenshots were taken at but I haven't borrowed anything. If/when I do, I always ask permission in advance and credit the original artist in the ReadMe. With the exception of official DCS template layers, any weathering effects on the Spit are all my own. Yours: Mine: If I have misunderstood the intent of your post I apologize.

I'll post new skins here... Just about ready to start uploading, have been tweaking things for 2.1 and the Normandy map. Have added some details and corrected some minor problems with the template, just OCD Spit stuff like which way the cam lock head slots are supposed to be oriented when fastened, there are only 7 of them along the rear edge of the top cowl, not 10, etc... real nerd things :P Tweaking the spec files to take advantage of the new lighting, chips and scratches, etc. Added new exhaust effects like lead staining.

When can we expect the Spitfire Mk. IX Template?
jocko417 replied to VH-Rock's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Well, I must agree with other posters in other threads, this is a very basic template, nowhere near as nice as some others ED has made for other aircraft. While I sincerely appreciate all templates that get released, it's going to be a fair amount of work detailing this one. Consequently, it'll take a little longer than I expected to get my previous skins updated, and new skins completed. Sorry for the delay but it's such a nice model I really want to do this right :) Edit: And I guess I'll be finding a new photo storage service since I don't feel like paying Photobucket an arm and a leg... -
Shall I mention the time I spent a few hours cursing at the screen before I realised I needed a SEMI-colon, not a colon, in an lua line... I don't wear glasses (yet) but my eyes get just as dirty :D
-
I think each "SpitfireIX_DIF",true}; you have in your lua needs to be changed to "SpitfireIX_RAF_DIF",false}; or the game will use the default skin instead of yours for the serial backgrounds?
-
I'll be looking at this at the end of the week now that the official Spit template has been released. Any problems with the two letter digits of the liveries in question may be due to an outdated description.lua since the new serial number system came into effect.
