  1. LOVE the new menu music, it gets me in the mood for kicking ass with some gun runs
  2. I like the look better with it off
  3. There is a keys PDF for each plane in one of the sub folders
  4. Strange that it did not show up in search. But thanks! Will follow that.
  5. Also I do not max out VRAM, using about 70% VRAM.
  6. Anyone experience a small freeze every 30-60 seconds or so? I've tried it with various settings, and notice my GPU % usage cuts in half during the 1 second freeze. It's almost like the Graphics card stopped receiving data for a second. Any ideas on any particular nvidia or dcs settings could help? I doubt it is my system I have gtx 580, i7-2600k, 8gb ram, corsair c300 SSD to eliminate bottlenecks... Hasn't worked totally.
  7. Exactly. The chances of getting 2 dcs fighters with exciting head to head (eg wvr vs bvr specialties) is slim to none. Even if we had one DCS fighter, seriously how long will you want to shoot ai planes? Ground pounding co op is fine but air to air is best with humans and a variety of a2a specialties to see who can push their planes advantage.
  8. No it wouldn't make sense to dump FC2 in my opinion. Although the FC2 jets are simpler, they do fill out the multiplayer. Look at the kind of combined servers we have running now and how great it is to have the ka-50 along with the jets. Add the A-10C working against the Su-25t and the Ka-50 and it will be awesome MP. Also compared to many other sims excluding Falcon, FC2 is not that simple. It's good enough to allow the weapons to be thrown around in our online maps. As for whether to pay or not - people who said they've already paid: No you haven't already paid. You've paid for the original FC2. Not the new FC2 with new engine, new graphics, new AI, and updated map. Whether we have to pay or not I don't care, I just want to see the series stay together. DCS: Fighter or whatever may be next will be a long time coming. To dump off FC2 would limit the multi-role fun of this series being limited to ground attack only. I like to do a bit of everything and I'm not the only one.
  9. First number is the compass bearing. Second is the distance. Third is the altitude but I think it's expressed like low medium high etc. Fourth is the aspect like HOT means heading towards you, merged means they are just passing you.
  10. I have CH as well, how do you other CH guys cope with lack of first stage trigger? What do you map?
  11. Yeah Gadroc is right, the FOV 16:10 so it's just a little more to the vertical than 16:9. So you can probably see more shkval while still seeing the HUD. Having said that - with a bigger monitor you have more detail so you do not need to zoom in as much. I often fly at nearly full zoom out, so in that regard you do get some more FOV. HOWEVER - there is an issue with ED sims in that when you zoom out the ground units turn into a "brick" shaped square box. This is really a detriment to those with large monitors as we want to not zoom in just like real life. I've tried all kinds of tweaks and mods to fix it but I just can't seem to do it since the last patch version.
  12. I have one but I don't use it in favour of the CH fighterstick due to the number of buttons. Even in prop sims now I'm sticking with CH as I find switching back and forth between different joysticks messes up my aim. TRIM seems to work ok, occasionally I hit Ctrl ENTER to see where I'm at..
  13. I have the Dell 30", 2560x1600 resolution so I actually see double the amount of world - double the pixels of 1920x1080 :) This is enough and I don't need multi-screen. I don't need to sit too far back as it's still a monitor not a TV and has the dot pitch just right to sit maybe 2-foot away. I highly recommend it over a stretched 1920 on a big screen. I only need 2x or 4x AA to look good. The one thing to be wary of though, with this many pixels you want a good graphics card! I have gtx 580 running it.
  14. Frazer i'd love to see what videos you can come up with after seeing your ka-50 vids! It is quite good for movie making, if you save a track you can play back from any angle and use the ASDF keys to move the view around your plane, with the mouse for the angle. You can also right click and turn off the HUD with a button at the top. These planes are very cool for practicing ACM and tricks. Just yesterday we were messing around with a handley page map, and after several tries one of us got the bomber under a bridge successfully :pilotfly:
  15. Are any servers allowing leavu mod?
  16. Campaign is delayed, so first we will get the Gotha. They are also building the 2 seaters as flyables in the meantime. Should be an announcement re the career ETA within a week.
  17. You might burn your eyes out sitting that close to the screen! I just have my stick next to the keyboard on the right, and throttle on left of keyboard. My stick is in line with my forearm when its on the armrest of the office chair. Regarding multi-sims I can play DCS, ROF, FC2 all ok because I had periods of 2-3 months where I focus on one sim only when I first get it to fully learn it first. Now I know them, I can jump back into any black shark, su-25, ROF, or strike fighters 2. Also I setup my HOTAS so each button does the same or similar thing in all sims, I set them all up to match the A-10C style of button mapping. ROF is a slight exception though because there is no slewing or locking of targets required, no gears, no flaps, and no trim just flying :pilotfly:
  18. Yes it will download large patch files so be prepared to leave it overnight :) But it will be a different game once patched, MUCH better. Also - download all the free skin packs to make the planes look pretty from here: http://riseofflight.com/en/community/usefulmaterials Plus any other things you find useful. Wiki is also useful: http://en.wiki.riseofflight.com/index.php?title=Main_Page Some tips I've offered on the ROF forum before: 1. Change your trackir profile to make it more sensitive as needed so that you can look all the way on your 6 and above you and down at your instruments without it "freaking out" and jumping around. 2. Turn off trackir and save a gunsight view (bead in the ring), by holding a numpad number (e.g. 8), using pgup/pgdn/home/end/insert/del and the mouse to move it, then F10 to save it while still holding the numpad number. Then turn trackir back on. You can then map the number (e.g. 8) to your joystick and hold that to be on your gunsight. 3. An alternative to no.2 is to put a deadzone on X and Y in your trackir profile, so that when your head is in the middle it will snap to the centre gunsight position. 6DOF looks cool but it sux for gunnery, but you can still lean left and right if you move your body out of the deadzone. 4. Turn off "TrueView" in trackir because it makes you sink in your seat... very bad in a dogfight as you can't see. 5. Focus on just 2-3 planes until you have them mastered. Probably focus on rotaries or non-rotaries at first. Central planes have no mixture for non-rotaries so are easier to learn quickly too (e.g. Pfalz D3a, Albatross). 6. Lookup Squids plane guides on the ROF useful materials! Download them and keep them handy. 7. Shift+A to go on auto-level if you have to go AFK or level out a plane that wants to point at the sky like the SE5a. I didn't know about this for ages! It works even on servers with autopilot set to off. Also if you are injured and not strong enough to push your stick forward, pushing forward in combination with Shift A means you can still fly level to try and escape. 8. Save your input settings to a different name other than "input", otherwise you will lose your settings when you do an update. 9. Radiators - if you have a temp gauge keep it around 70 for best performance. If not, it's normally ok about 70% open, but close it during dives. 10. Mixture - is easy. Just full rich on engine start, then adjust until your RPM guage is the highest you can get. Every 1000m altitude redo. 11. If you go online - be aware that most minimise their fuel level to get a huge edge in combat maneuvers! Lake dogfight is generally 20%, while large or historical maps people take 30-80%. 12. Camelfag bulletins - very interesting reading: http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewforum.php?f=316
  19. Initial beta video of the Gotha G.V Bomber, due for release in a week or two:
  20. Hi Guys, Sorry to bring up a month old thread, but zooming without losing throttle control is the main thing stopping me from buying the warthog. Do you find you can zoom via the slider wheel without removing your hand from the throttle or is it too far away? Is it comfortable to be constantly zooming in and out with that, or do you just set the zoom and only change it occasionally? Have you tried it in a prop combat sim where you need to be adjusting throttle and zooming at the same time - like when shooting at someone then throttling back quickly to stay on their tail? Cheers
  21. So it sounds like the Cougar modded is probably better for some things like combat. Funny enough this guy is primarily a prop sim combat player and bought the warthog. His reason to change to Warthog though is the replacement of springs its a pain and maintenance is a pain for the cougar. However, the Warthog throttle is better than the cougar. Even without rotaries it still has many more switches along with a dual throttle. TRIM is fine for me using my CH Fighterstick hat switch as I have trackir. I've never wanted rotaries for TRIM, and the main prop sim I fly doesn't have TRIM at all. Plus in combat, it's best to have a non-trimmed plane to pull all the maneuvers using memory of how much stick to apply. I suppose the second throttle could be used as a rotary, but I wonder how quickly it can be slid back and forth if it would be useful for a zoom control. For zooming I use the rotary on the CH modded throttle under my left pinky. I play alot of prop sims where I need to quickly zoom in and out to identify or search for planes, or even to take a quick snapshot. Zooming using buttons doesn't allow this as easily so I like having something on the actual throttle itself. Is there any other analog controls or pressure sensitive switches on the throttle that don't require your hand to remove from the throttle? Maybe one of the 3 position switches could be programmed into an axis with 3 positions, full zoom, mid zoom, and full 100 degree FOV. Can TARGET create new axis for programming buttons onto?
  22. No it's a guy called Winger but he's in Germany too :) Dual station sounds good! Would love to get warthog but I'm loathe to give up all my CH rotaries.
  23. I'm happy as well but I'm biased in never playing FC1 so it hasn't grown old for me yet. I've also played the hell out of DCS. But yeah if they can pump out more DCS modules that include a fighter then I'm agreed with GG as long as DCS 3 an 4 isn't 2020 by then ;)
  24. Thanks guys, now it is so obvious :) I hadn't used boresight in the presence of a friendly before, now I know it has IFF features I will use it every chance! Hopefully I won't die so much from hesitation now. Crunch - I am interested in learning the Russian fighters too, so I can see Ricardos nice cockpits again :) But how can the Su-27 compete in BVR against AIM-120Cs? Coming up against Moa, his Su-27 snuck up and nailed me close range with a 27ET instead of using BVR. I thought that seemed like a good tactic without having any ARH on Su-27. I can't believe I wasted so long sticking to the bombers. I thought the fighters were "simple" compared to the T Frog, but now I learn there is so much more to these fighters than I thought! All good fun, although I'm a bit late to the party
  25. A new module is many times more work than an upgrade patch, I mean look how much work and timeframes A-10C is taking even with dx11 dropped. I would hope that the effort wouldn't delay a 5th module by much yet have a huge benefit keeping the community large. It's FC players that are buying DCS as well due to the introduction from FC. Plus the revenue could help - but not everyone feels the same way I do about supporting this hobby. Many cry poor if they have to pay for any kind of development or improvement.
