9.JG27 DavidRed Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 hello dear devs! today we tried out the new update for 123, and everything seemed fine, but when planes crashed into the ground, and smoke columns appeared, the frames dropped for everybody on my server dramatically. everybody had the same problem...frames decreased to single digit numbers, although some guys told me that they normally have 120fps...i myself have about 30-50 constantly, depending on the situation, but with this new update, as soon as smoke appears on the screen the frames go down to even 5frames per second... it seems that it only happens when you look into the direction of the smoke, while you dont have to necessary see it.for example if the smoke is in front but under you, its hided by the cockpit, but the fps still drops.if you look into the oposite direction, everything is fine again. Edit: i hosted a p51 server with mustangs only.
Kwiatek Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I confirmed. Got the same issue with P-51 and black smoke on the ground. Looking at the smoke area 5-10 fps ( depend of black smoke count) looking at area without smoke - 60 fps.
Rider1 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there a graphics file that I can delete? Who's idea was this in the first place anyway? Even one of the testers mentioned the day the patch came out that this was going to be an issue. I had to finally give up and leave a server last night it was just unplayable. The smoke FPS hit was so bad even my TIR was lagging. And the smoke was in the target area so imagine trying to get a mav lock on a ship at 6 FPS. Finally at 3 miles I was able to get a shot off. but was disintegrated by the three missile from the ship. How many months now have we had to deal with with the CBU/rocket/heavy gunfire/contrail framerate issues? It has been long enough. Fix your stuff, ED.

Odd, when I got the smoke FPS hit while in taxi/takeoff with a Flanker, even looking in the opposite direction of the smoke did not help me. My normal FPS didn't return until I was in the air and rocketing away from the smoke. WildBillKelsoe Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I can confirm the above in 104th server, operation A-G (clean something...)... While flying across the rubble, from 10,000 ft I got a very odd lag that changed my experience from fluid to a slideshow (momentarily), then DCS crashed. I believe the track file got too big (180 mb) for my meek 8 gigs of ram. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. My normal FPS didn't return until I was in the air and rocketing away from the smoke. maybe you are right on this....it was only an impression that it became better when i looked into the opposite direction.but it could very well be, that it was indeed only the distance and not the direction.
Hubris Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Yep, FPS is now much lower. Cluster bombs and rockets etc. now lower FPS to pre patch 1.2.3

B25Mitch Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 The sad thing is they're not even using the new smoke effect introduced with DCS World. It's the old particle effect from DCS A-10 that's causing this problem.
vJG74_Dancer Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hey Pilots, http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36421&page=6 our mod improves FPS while there is " black smoke" in field of vision. What this MOD does: The vehicles are still burning, but there is no column of smoke in the air. If you wann use this you use it on your own risk. Please backup the original files so that you can write them back if this mod is unusable for you. 159th_Viper Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I am sure ed knows about this already......... Yes, quite correct. Acknowledged and confirmed in a gazillion other threads already. Lange_666 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 ...and despite the gazillion other threads which already go back to 2010 somewhere... still causes the same shitty problem in 2013. We should have an graphic option called "detailed smoke" and then those who like to play at single frame numbers can set it to "on" to enjoy some detailed smoke... vJG74_Dancer Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 1st.) The thing i dont understand is, why there are updates to make the gameplay better and there are opened new bugs which doesn´t exist in 2 versions before ? 2nd.) Why do FC2 Owners pay for FC3. I think its the same "Game". Why should we pay 2 times for the same thing ? 3rd.) Why are there 4 Layers for Ground Textures. 2 Layers should be enought to work with same Quality. 4rd.) ED should make a better concept for Programming. Why are there so much dead files in the DCS Folder ? The folder gets bigger and bigger. Really to much files which are not used anymore. 5th.) The DCS Community are no BETA Testers. Its time to get a full working version for our money. Tested and ready to use. 6th.) I tested all textures in all folders and reduced the image sizes and file sized without improvement of quality. 12 FPS more than with original textures. 7th.) If you are looking for Beta testers or graphic artists you are free to contact me. vJG74_Dancer

How it works. 2.http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1643589&postcount=4 What have you been smoking mate? 3. Not a clue 4. We got an expert here. 5. Oh dear. 6. That's nice. 1 Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Rider1 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) You add new features and get new bugs. How it should work: The beta testers find bugs, identify, then report them to be fixed by the developers. We are consumers, not beta testers. It is not our job. My copy of World and A10 C are not beta. These are the only modules that I chose to support and play. Fix my retail game, that was broken months ago by these "new features" and please and stop pushing untested or simply ignored beta code into it. Edited March 18, 2013 by Rider1
vJG74_Dancer Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 @ Jona33 I think its time to change some "EXPERTS" @ Rider1 right Sir !
