DCS 1.2.7. Release From Beta?

I don't intend to "beat a dead horse" on this topic, but how long will the open beta be? Would it be prudent to go ahead and install the beta or just wait for the official release?

That would depend on whether you want to deal with beta bugs or not.

The Open Beta has only been updated once so far, if that gives you any indication of how long it might be.

Beta bugs in 1.2.7 are no worse than the 1.2.6 bugs and you get more features and fixes.

And keep in mind they lose a week of production over the holidays in Russia so it feels a bit longer than it really is.

Fortunately I think a bunch of folks have been hard at work making certain that the devs have plenty to keep them busy on their return.

I think the current beta build of 1.2.7 is probably the most bug free out of any version I can remember. I would jump on it.

The only thing turning me off to installing the 1.2.7 release is the separate install. I don't want to reconfigure all my graphical settings, hotas configs, etc.

I'd rather just have it replace 1.2.6

Maybe next time, have the beta replace the previous version, but offer users a choice? Warn them it's beta?

same here, I'll await 1.2.7 as a production push and update 1.2.6.

I copied (drag and dropped) my Mustang and FC3 into the Beta it worked like a charm, even adding the training missions with out having to direct the software to it. I don't see why this wouldn't work with the other config. files

Copying config files frequently will work, unless your copy eliminates/breaks changes in the new version. It also can invalidate test results for that same reason.

If there are no show stopping bugs then they should release it and do incremental patches :)

One man's minor issue, is another man's show stopping bug. ;)

There are still some, in my opinion, medium servere bugs and a few show stopping bugs (i.e. AI not working/starting for ground units --> broken missions).

But I am somewhat impressed of how many bugs we were able to find and narrow down - especially concerning MP. I think, if this beta is over - and the necessary fixes are implemented :o) - we all will really have accomplished a lot. So, if it takes some time, let it take some time. Hopefully this will then give ED some maneuvering space to get to the, hrm, old bugs, too. :o)

I have a lot of switches that are down=..., up=.... or otherwise on my HOTAS and I'd like to do a completely clean install for 1.2.7 but get my key settings back as fast as possible...

The Open Beta is that big because it is the whole thing. When 1.2.6 updates to 1.2.7, it will be just like any other update, as big as it needs to be to accommodate the files that have changed.

Couldn't you just drag and drop the setting lua into the new install? I dragged and dropped my P51 folder into 1.2.7 and had no issues. Training missions and all started up fine.

You are exempt from reporting bugs then. Bugs should only be reported with installs that have not been tampered with.

Everything else, including exploding ARMs, can be dealt with, but this makes it almost impossible to fly with many players over time.

Which is not what you got it for. It's there to catch bugs, not to give you an enjoyable experience.

Conversations like this are an example of why Matt has had to post "Please follow directions." about 50 times in the Open Beta bug thread.
