For what it's worth... Over the holiday weekend, I installed the latest nVidia 397.93 drivers.

Yep, I used DDU to flush out the old, to prep for the new.

I must admit, this driver is working just great for me. I've only flown it in SP, for both the Caucasus and Persian Gulf map. No stutters nor hiccups.

Not saying you should switch, but it's been real solid for me for VR. Understood YMMV, but I'm going to stick with it.

My system specs are in my sig.

I wonder how long for DCS to be on the main software list for vid card & VR companies to test their drivers and hardware on.

I've been flying tonight using Nvidia 397.93 with F-18 no stuttering no lag, tried F-15 same thing. These drivers really are good, never had it so smooth! I'd like to hear if others are having the same results.

those drivers are awesome.....thanks for the heads up;)

Happy they work for you and others.

Wishing I could use these drivers, they seem quick and smoother at windows and web browsing, but they don't support sleep mode of windows correctly, they corrupt the video and crash GPU driver after coming back from a sleep event, the only fix is to reboot computer. Because of this issue I didn't even try to run DCS on them.

I have tried 3 times now after the 388.71 drivers to install any new drivers and they all fail on the same level.

  • Installed all known window 8.1 system updates.
  • Modified the "TDR" time from 2 seconds to 8.
  • Disabled Hibernate mode with "powercfg -h off".
  • Uninstalled Nvidia drivers and all support programs.
  • Used DDU cleaner to delete registery entries, directories, temp directories and all things nvidia in system.
  • Tried installing multiple 39x.xx series drivers.
  • Boot up system, put into sleep mode, press key to wake system, get to windows desktop and GPU driver crashing, freezing and recovering and totally unusable.
  • Nothing fixed my problem.

Have you thought of upgrading to Windows 10?

I run Win8.1, but I never allow my gamer PC to "sleep". About the only thing I do allow is the LCD TV to sleep. So I can't speak to your PC sleeping issue.

Otherwise, this current driver version has been solid for my Win8.1 rig.

Yes, but not at the expensive of not being able to use my other gear due to no drivers for win 10, and people with windows 10 have just as many issues also.

Cheers, Ian.

On Windows 10 I'm using legacy programs going back to Windows 95, 98 and Win 10 has no problem with them.

DDU use with caution

Hi

I just tried to use DDU which takes you into windows safe mode. Since the last windows update windows has changed my password which meant that i could not actually log in and it was stuck on the safe mode sign in page. I had to:

a. Download a windows 10 iso file from Microsoft on another laptop and burn to dvd.

b. Insert dvd in 'broken' machine and boot from it.

c. When it loads, go to the troubleshooting section and open up a command prompt window.

d. Enter the following to reset the boot details: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

This solved the problem.

What does that have to do with DDU? That's an issue of Windows changing your password and you making a wrong decision to boot in to safe mode.

Hi

DDU asks recommends that it operates in safe mode and reboots you there if you accept that recommended option.
