Interesting poll about a new Kickstarter funding round for team Shevchenko/Maddox over at SimHQ: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3920532/1

Wonder what's that about.

No one is denying that, but we can still take the high road on this, otherwise there is no reason for this thread to exist. Its not here to state the obvious or bash anyone.

a question:

Is RRG Studios affected by severe external factors that slow / paralyze or break the development of DCS: W 1944? if that is true, what are these factors and how long they think may affect the development?

well, all we know is, that RRG's development is somehow dependent on ED's progress of the implementation of EDGE into DCS.though this doesnt mean they cannot continue to work on the normandy map.luthier stated though, that work on the map has slowed down until the implementation is finished.

another factor thats always the driving force is of course money...but during the kickstarter campaign i asked Luthier whether those 100 000$ are really enough, and he assured that they are not dependent on the funds of the kickstarter, but that its only giving them more time to create a solid product, to test things longer, and to deliver a better product in the end...

i dont want to bring this up, but for this question its somehow necessary..in one kickstarter video, luthier even mentioned, that when a tragedy suddenly occured, and they should "lose" a developer, that even then, there is enough money and time to "exchange" the developer, and deliver the product on schedule.

This is a possibility and maybe we all need to take this into account, and give them a little time.

To be honest here, I am ok with the updates they give right now, and the frequency, my concern lies with the outstanding issues that are not addressed. I dont need to be coddled, I know things are still progressing with the sim, its the little things like I listed above as well as other things people have concerns about that havent been addressed, like the P-51 keys...

^^this.and for me its also the lost potential i can see while not interacting with the community...

maybe im dreaming, then so was luthier, but if we really someday should for example build a new map with the sdk tools together as a big group effort, some organization beforehand cant hurt and speed things up...

but there are more things where the community, in the end the customers backers or not, could improve the final product.

Those are certainly the most pertinent and urgent issues...

Hopefully nobody really doubts that progress is being made, but in the light of possible scams and people "stirring the pot" with polls about a new KS-campaign it would perhaps be adviseable to act or react publicly in some way.

Overboarding speculation and pot stirring can always be moderated accordingly on this forum, but if it spreads elsewhere this is no longer an option.

P51 keys :- It probably went into your spam mail and got deleted which is out of RRG's control and I do hope this is addressed eventually.

I was one of those who actually got mine, and it never went to my spam folder. And considering my particular email service loves to stick things in spam even if I safe list it, I find it hard to believe that is the reason for everyone. There are a lot of people who haven't received the keys, and when those people spoke up on the forums when others said they got them, they were told to check their spam folders. Apparently for a lot of those people their spam folders were clean.

It is clearly a glitch and I know RRG didn't do it deliberately and they aren't trying to rob people (again, I got mine). The problem is that there has been ZERO communication from RRG and Luthier on this problem. Not even a "We are aware of it and we will sort it out later". We don't even know whether RRG is aware of this problem because there has been complete silence on this - even those people trying to directly contact them over this problem have been met with silence. That isn't right. If they gave you money and you promised them something in return, at least tell them you will fix the issue in time. RRG hasn't seem fit to even acknowledge the situation as far as I know.

EDGE SDK:- EDGE isn't ready so SDK isn't ready which is out of RRG's control.
I'm surprised anyone brought this up, agree that this isn't RRG's problem and shouldn't be something we bother asking them until after EDGE release.

Indiegogo scam:- Common sense dictates this was a scam and if you couldn't figure that out you've got no chance cold starting a DCS aircraft.
Oh we figured it for a scam, which is why it closed out without anyone contributing to it. That isn't the issue. The issue is that Luthier and RRG didn't care enough to even make a simple statement to confirm anything, even when contacted by a moderator.

T-shirt competition :- No timescale for announcing a winner was ever given and it really is a non-issue.
They did give a timescale if I recall to announce the winner, November I believe. In comparison to everything else going on, yes it is a very minor issue. But when you ask the community for their money, it doesn't foster trust and good will to make promises and then go silent about them.

Community manager :- No website = no community manger required. But i read that work has begun on the website in earnest.
My understanding is the community manager was supposed to visit forums and answer questions so that Luthier didn't have to, along with skype meetings. Again it isn't so much that he didn't live up to the promise he made on this, but that after he made the promise we've heard nothing but crickets chirping on that subject.

Alpha in February :- Planning Fallacy, Hofstadter's law and the Ninety nine rule. EDGE isn't finished, out of RRG's control.
To be honest I seriously doubted there would be an alpha in February anyway, I thought Luthier and RRG was being too optimistic about that date. However, when the only real hiccup seems to be a temporary glitch that kept them from posting screen shots once, why hasn't there been any comment about alpha? Luthier makes things out to be sounding like things are going very smoothly for development for the most part, so that tends to make people wonder why they didn't make certain projections on time. Again, the issue is zero communication about this.

Why won't he talk to us!!? :- Because we all go into a feeding frenzy and generate more questions that MUST be answered in one week or the sky will fall!! Its some kind of self-referential exponential curve and by the end of it it is somehow Luthiers responsibility to come round and brush our hair before we go to bed.
Again I feel you are completely misunderstanding the issue. There are legitimate concerns and ignoring it and giving RRG a pass on everything doesn't make these problems go away. Luthier should not make promises he can't keep. He asked for the trust of the community, and we gave it by funding his project. Now he needs to hold up his end and do the things he said he'd do. It is wrong to promise something for people's money, and then not only not give it to them but be completely silent on it.

I firmly believe that RRG will in the end give a product and sort out the issues eventually. That doesn't mean that they don't have communication problems that need to be addressed. This isn't exactly fostering any good will among the community for Luthier to be silent on some very important problems. With the RRG communication problems and issues with other 3rd party projects, I have doubts about the ability of any future crowd funding projects by other 3rd parties succeeding. I certainly don't think we will see the kind of enthusiasm that RRG received with their Kickstarter. I don't think RRG is doing anyone any favors by not resolving or even acknowledging issues.

I wouldn't have invested in this project if it wasn't in cooperation with ED. ED's involvement gave me the confidence that it will be finished to a high standard and delivered reasonably late due to unforeseen complications integrating the new IG with DCS worldbiggrin.gif
Indeed, were it not for ED's involvement I wouldn't have given Luthier the amount of money that I did despite my high desire for a WWII DCS sim. In fact my trust in ED and Wags was the only reason I gave money to the F-35 project. But I didn't give Kenney what I gave to RRG, RRG definitely got more.

I did this because I am far more trusting of RRG that we'll get a product in the end. But I've also been the more patient of people on here, even rolling my eyes at past comments from people getting impatient before, and yet even I'm now finally having to speak up and admit there is a problem. There are clear communication issues that RRG needs to solve. Keeping silent about problems rarely solves them.

Dear moderators and project leaders,

May be some of you clear the situation around the project and tell us what the **** is going on. If Shevchenko disappeared it is OK. Even it is great. But somebody anybody will keep us informed?
