Something that is visible in real aircraft, but not in simulators is the flexing of wings under high g-loading and the shaking of aircraft surfaces during high buffet maneuvering. I think this is one of the next generation effects that needs attention in aircraft simulation.

Yes, that would be really nice to see.

Is there a list somewhere that explains what new / improved effects are going to be implemented in EDGE?

Personally, I would love to see better smoke effects, both for missiles and burning targets.

It's already in DCS.

And the fact that the people that care about it haven't noticed it suggests that it's not as important as might first appear to be the case. :D

Technically, wing flex is not a "graphical effect", it is a direct consequence of physics :p

I remember seeing somewhere on this forum a comparison shot on the Su-27 (IIRC) showing high positive g and some negative g, and you can see the wings flex a bit.

However, military aircraft are not airliners with those long wings, so the effect will never be as visible as for those.

Smoke effects I agree, though I would prefer they optimized them first (when you place the camera just behind the smoke of the engines, it can eat your fps away).

We need high-g wing vapor effects, can't believe this one is the ONLY sim that doesn't have it. Falcon 4.0 had it in 1998.

Also, what about rain effects on the canopy? We have helicopters now, so no excuse. Let us use those beautiful wipers!

P.S. check out some F-18 vids, that's one airplane where you can truly appreciate wing flex ;)

OT. is it just me or does it seem like smoke pods are used a lot more on military aircraft by Russians and Europeans at airshows? Other then the Blue Angels and Tbirds, I haven't noticed it used on our front line fighter solo displays here in the states. Different tastes i guess. The don't seem to mind poppin off a few flares across the pond as well which is pretty cool.

At slow speed the smoke should push out, like a high power hose, not clump together like they do now, have proper diffusion, distortions with wingtip vortices/change in lift, and have dynamic visuals.

Let us know when your mod is complete... I'd like to try it out.

Nate

So, is this a feature in the sim now, or a mod, or a future update?

It should already be in.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

We used to have Aircraft pop flares all the time here during solo displays.

USN Fleet Demonstration at NAS Oceana involves a lot of flares. (I think in 2011 they didnt use any, when I went in 2006/2007 they used flares during A2A Segments)
