I've been flying on it off and on today. It does go down for a short amount of time occasionally but for the most part it remains 24/7

ok right on thanks

Flak on DOW server. Are these associated with actual firing units on the ground or a script thing when you get inside a certain block of airspace ?

not complaining here = war is war.

Sorry, but what we do on the DoW server has very little to do with war, or even simulated war. When you strafe a guy on the runway you haven't achieved much more than logging into the server first. Your target is probably someone who has limited time to get in some flying before wife or kids or both need his attention.

Guys! Why can't I play replays from your server?

When I load a track, the game shows to me a window with aircraft selection and I can spawn in... but, it is playing as if it was in single player mode. Not replaying the actual events from the server:huh:

In reference to this topic:

We are working to find a happy medium. While we strive for realism on most of our missions we have to adapt the full-time missions at times to keep it an enjoyable experience for the majority of visitors. I am a fan of airfield scramble scenarios, but repeatedly getting shot up the second you enter an aircraft is not sporting in any way. If anyone thinks it's realistic to keep jumping in an aircraft and continue to attempt a takeoff with aircraft strafing the field... Well, I think you have watched too many action movies. Along with this, plenty of documented accounts from WWII prove that in most cases attacking aircraft had a single chance to strafe an airfield before running for home trying to avoid AA. Loitering above an enemy airfield during daylight was a deathwish and most definitely not a realistic tactic. We have tried and will continue to try to find the best balance of these elements to keep it a fun place to spend your time.

They have Zu-23s and pretty flak explosions.:)

The problem being (at least from what I've seen) that the ZU23 (and, for that matter, M163 VADS) gunners are REALLY bad at applying lead to a target with any lateral motion whatsoever. On several occasions, I've led an enemy strafer over the airfield over, and over, and over (I was RTB with no ammo!), and the AAA just couldn't seem to hit him... in like 6 passes. Even though I had managed to make the guy spend all his airspeed.

As to happy mediums... that's the one thing about Drei Schweine I don't particularly care for; the airfield insta-kill flak is so sudden. There needs to be some warning that you're getting too close; the flak should get heavier and heavier until it finally insta-kills you... but the one time I wandered too close (and not even all that close!) it was the very first "shot" fired. My airplane just suddenly vaporized. Not exactly awesome.

Is it possible to do a "time in zone" counter? Like, it would allow you to stay within a km or two of the airfield, but only for 2 minutes? That way you could theoretically make a pass, but if you hung around vulching, the flak would get you

I don't know.. I like the randomness of flak. It should be dangerous enough to discourage loitering at high altitude, and the odds of getting a flak shell right through the fuselage (and vaporizing) should be pretty low unless you stay there a while. More likely should be a slow degradation of your plane as close explosions put shrapnel holes in various parts.

This is one thing that I thought the old IL2 did really well in the online servers I spent way, way too many hours on. Base flak was harassing but rarely deadly unless you spent a ton of time in it or got really unlucky, and it provided an 'early warning and spotting system' for anyone running base CAP. If you actually tried vulching with a gun pass, though, the short-range AA (can't remember what the weapons were called) was very deadly. You could survive one pass 'most' of the time, but any sort of turning engagement within range of them almost always resulted in your plane getting blown away. This made airfield hits high risk / high reward endeavors.

I really enjoyed this mechanism. Flying CAP could get boring but could also result in some satisfying kills, particularly for newer players. On the vulching side, it provided an incentive to spend the extra time to swing around the base and come at it from an unexpected direction, treetop level, at high speed if you wanted a chance at landing any points you might get.

Hopefully the coming '40's maps with period assets will let this kind of setup live again.

There really needs to be a better map drawn out,I cant find anything other than Boats and the Enemy Airfield. Restore the map, go to paint use the MarkerTool (itll make it look Real) and Circle Cities or Neigborhoods,

ALSO flak should do more damage. The randomness of it right now is pretty accurate. Also try and make it so the explosions shake the aircraft

Yes, milord. Right away, milord. Everything you want, milord. :music_whistling:

Ground units are there. Its hard to spot them from high altitude, but they're there. Don't know if they can make the plane shake from flak..thats probably something built into the engine, more so than achievable by mission building.
