DirectX ONE GENERATION back

DX9 is two generations back, now. Launched in 2002... That isn't new technology.

DX11 was the end of 2009. We're expecting DX12 end of 2015, but it's Windows 8+ (so basically, like way DX10 was Vista). Chances are, people won't bother with it until MS release a decent O/S for desktops.

However, it would still be nice to get some support from ATI.

I'm probably going Nvida next.

Back in 2009 I got an Nvidia GTX 295, which I originally purchased to play LOMAC. Whoops, that sim never liked SLI and so my card only performed as good as a GTX 260...

I recently purchased a pair of AMD Radeon R9 290X cards. The decision was based on performance price point... Whoops, DCS and AMD cards don't play nice. For me crossfire = disabled unless I want explosion stuttering, which is never.

I'm a bit sad about my purchase seeing that NVidia cards have a much better experience in DCS world. EDGE holds hope for me and my fellow AMD GPU owners.

It's not all bad tho. I can enjoy DCS world on a single R9 290X on fairly high graphics settings. Also no issues to be had with the other (new) sims and games I have. :pilotfly:

Hi, where can I find the latest nvidia profile for DCS?

thanks

They are embedded in the Drivers.

NVIDIA is to western Tech as ATI is to Eastern Tech. IE: solid state vs vacuum tubes. :)

You might want to swap this around bearing in mind the tech behind DCS..

AMD A8-5600K @ 4GHz, Radeon 7970 6Gig, 16 Gig Ram, Win 10 , 250 gig SSD, 40" Screen + 22 inch below, Track Ir, TMWH, Saitek combat pedals & a loose nut behind the stick

AMD is just a graphical glitch/bug, Rage, we all know it. No way to say it is "proper".

NVIDIA correctly renders engine smoke trails, there's nothing wrong here.

Incorrect my friend. It has been confirmed by the ED testers (Viper?) that what you see with AMD cards is the intended effect. Somehting about the way Nvidia renders the smome makes it too faint. If you had an AMD card you would know.

Don't hold your breath, ED is not going to favor one company over another, especially without any type of partnership that would include benefits.

You will have to wait and see. Sure they can say AMD well see a large improvement but with the engine change, both should regardless.

I was well aware that DX9 is 2 generations back, my statement regarding the support was based on Skates statement here...

"AMD hasn't made any profile's for DCS and when emailed about it, they responded with the same "We no longer support Legacy DirectX Engines"

(Meaning they wont touch older Applications that run on DX9, and DX10 for that matter.)

With each "NVIDIA GeForce expirience" update, I'm sending the following message:

Please add support for the Digital Combat Simulator - DCS.

And of course, I specify the path to the DCS.exe

Because NVIDIA GFE can't find DCS in the list of supported games. :smartass:

To be fair, they do offer DX9/10 support for AAA/Popular Titles (Battlefield, Call of Duty, FIFA, F1 Racing, etc).

When I Submit a Performance Bug Report to AMD with Every Driver release, I include the Webpage and instructions that it's Free To Play, as well as forum links to AMD/ATi Performance Discussion.

I'm Pretty sure AMD is aware that DCS Will be moving to DX11 Soon,

So there's really no point to put any research/dev time into a DX9 Driver Profile and to rush it into a Beta Driver.

AMD Does change stuff for DX9 Globally to fix random bugs, 14.4 was a golden driver, as it offered the most performance.

nVidia has already Moved on from DX9 as well,

The difference is they had a profile already, years ago, they simply update it every now and then.

Both Camps have moved Primary Support to DX12, DX11, OpenGL4.4 (and Mantle in AMD's case).

nVidia uses the Blackshark driver profile for DCS. I dunno if they migrated it to the "Geforce Experience" software.

AMD/Raptr doesnt have anything either.

Correct.

Yeah, As I've pointed out before a graphical glitch tends to manifest itself as something not being rendered, or some random anomalous additions that clearly shouldn't be there. How someone would come to the conclusion that something that is rendered essentially in perfect form is a glitch kind of baffles me.

Interesting comments...

I have no issues with the AMD R9 295X2 card I just put in my new rig...I enjoy eveything maxed and good FPS.

In my other rig I have no issues with my 7970 either...

Never have cared for nVidia

Good to know! What a relief, let me just drop $1500 on a video card.

It's odd how I can run 3 screens on a 7950 w/ Med/High Settings,

Then Upgrade to run 4 Screens Maxed w/ a Lightning 7970.

Then Prolly try tp run 5 Screen Eyefinity w/ 180° FoV + 1 Touch on a 7990+7970 Lightning when EDGE comes out.

But there are users that cant even run 1 screen w/ med settings on a 7970 or R9-290/X.

gotta be something up with that.

Probably the difference between perception and reality. One man's smooth framerate is another's choppy mess, or it can even be his own depending on his "state". I know that after playing at >120 fps for a while (not in DCS, mind you), a drop to 100 can seem as choppy as 30 fps. Similarly playing at a steady 30 fps seems very smooth after a while.

Testers are under NDA do they can't comment and I wouldn't expect anything said official from ED employees until closer to release.

I've asked a similar question in terms of a little notice that EDGE is coming so we can do upgrades / clean rebuild etc. Surely it wouldn't hurt if ED themselves gave out some advice on GPU etc? I couldn't see that giving away a little info would hurt would it?

As much as I'd like to fly the Dora or Saber, Im not buying any new modules until EDGE is released. As I have no idea how it will run on my PC there's no point in spending money on aircraft that I might not be able to fly in it. Even now the latest versions of DCS don't give good frames for me, so it's on the back burner until the major changes come.

^ This!

My old nV 480 GTX gives me 50% more FPS as my new R9 290X.

And this happens only in DCS.

ALL other old DX9 Games runnig like crazy with my R9 290X.

So no new module until EDGE is out!

Perhaps next year, if we are lucky... :megalol:

If you have FPS Problems with your AMD GPU, try to disable Hyper-Threading in the BIOS.

HT is a NO GO for AMD GPUs and DCS. Disabling HT should raise your FPS in DCS around 40%.

Try it.

Yeah, it would make it a lot easier to cooperate with GPU manufacturers if ED starts telling people to buy one thing over another - saying "go for X" automatically becomes an implicity "don't go for Y".

ED's goal is to make sure everyone has a good experience, no matter the GPU vendor. Once things are sufficiently nailed down, ED will release system specifications.

I've got an i7 3770k running @ 4.5GHz and a HD 7990 6GB running on a single 1080p monitor and I get really abysmal FPS sometimes. I'm pretty sure when I play online my average FPS is probably around 25. I'm so used to the horrible performance in DCS that I just play but I really do hate sub 60 frames in flight sims. There is no excuse for my rig not to be able to run DCS at around 60 frames or higher other than the engine being extremely unoptimised. I hope EDGE fixes these problems otherwise I have no hope for the DCS series.

you may as well go back to fsx if your not happy with the product or go and waste your time with x-plane. For every customer who gripes about graphics or tanks on bridges and has a rant, 3 new ED customers are born. You and many like yourself need to go play yeagers air combat for another 5 or so years then come back to DCS. Maybe you will then be satisfied. Let's be serious here, even in it's current form, DCS is better than anything the Janes series ever produced
