At my squad's weekly get-together I tried landing at 12 fps due to parked MiGs at the airfield. It was interesting.

Hi,

After trying to dog fight at 15 FPS I found that completely removing the external model was the only solution. In flight I now get 50+ FPS. The sim feels so different it is incredible.

Best regards,

Tango.

no external model, how can you aim the target? :D

not try yet, it sounds funny

I could use a low-fps guinea pig who has Skype, has low FPS, and is willing to drag and drop replace a few .edm's to report back.

Anyone up for it?

Still in office for 2 or so hours :(

But, I usually use the EDM Viewer+FRAPs to gauge how much of a FPS hit each LOD is (open Main LOD, note FPS, Open Next one, note the increase, etc etc etc)

That way you're just gauging the performance of the MIG-21 Mesh, and not having to worry about terrain, scenery, and AI Objects etc.

I have got a Radeon HD 6950.

Me, too... strange, the MiG-21 fps are lower, but not by that much. Just took a comparison and flew around my test map with the F-15C instead, no fancy avionics etc.

F-15: 30-50fps

MiG-21: 20-40fps

Just me starting on the ramp of Senaki and some ground targets scattered around the map, everything in a bit of distance to the base.

Scenes high

Civ Traffic off

Water high

Visib Range High

Heat Blr on

Shadows High

Res. of cockpit displays 512 every frame

MSAA off

HDR off

Clutters/bushes 0

Trees visiblity 6000

Preload radius 150000

Cockpit shadows ticked

no mods, no tweaks

Had it running at a lot lower settings, basically everything min/off except textures high and scenes + visib range med, that made just like 45-80fps (usually I have VSync on, so max 60). So cranking all up doesn't eat that much on my rig, it's just the usual rocket or minigun lots, smoke trails, cbus, rbk and wickmids that kill my frames. But well, that's TFCSE, EDGE will come this year, so what :smilewink:

So we can expect performance like withe the LOD1 mesh tweak? Damn, I need a new graphics card.

Me too... definately. Going to fetch a GTX 770 4GB probably, but I'll definately wait till both EDGE and the new GTX series have arrived, so I'll see if I get something similar for less cash or even stay with AMD and get a card similar in performance to what I want to get if it runs EDGE as well as nVidia.

yes it does this why i was trying to say .. FPS will change the way you fly really and respond

Still need a tester ?

I wonder if the " Mi-8MTV2" is suffering from the same and could be tweak for a much better result. I hope that the Devs can have a good communication for the benefit of all .

The Hip is a bit different, I think, since the cockpit is so huge, lots of geometry with the pilots and all the breakers. But no optimization is perfect, obviously.

I hope you get guinea pigs users who have AMD and NVIDIA. That way it's not biased performance fixes. biggrin.gif I am willing to help if you need anyone with a high end AMD card to test.

The tests we did didn't have any room for a manufacturer bias, don't worry. Unless drawing fewer objects makes performance worse with AMD :p

the EDm file for example the FW190 is 5.95 MB MiG-21 is 17.5mb and 13.7mb as "Normal "MiG-15 is 6.7mb ... F-86F is 9.04 mb .. just interesting

Please make the fps fix optional, as my fps is just fine in 3d and dont want to lose how good this thing looks. For those who are having bad frames might be a prelude to the more intense graphics coming with dcs 2.0. May want to think about upgrading or in this case have an option for uber detail mig 21 to a low detail one. Just an idea

As for the look EDGE will embellish the 3D's and shaders etc.. I'm not too worry but I want good FPS to enjoy the craft and not been sluggish.

Performance is to find the best way that a 3D model and computing systems can look and run with out compromising it's performance. So tuning to the best and then in 2.0 in EDGE will run smooth with others aircraft around and terrain etc..

No problem here on a above average PC, 40-60 fps (lowest yet, 28-30 in low level flight over Airport with other Migs and Hinds. Cold start mission.

Quick update: We are making significant progress on improving performance.

Hang in there! :)

Great to hear Cobra! Can't wait to get to actually properly fly this beast.
