screen below is reduced external model details personally I think it still looks great,

performance boost is much improved.

Can you check for me the exact difference for you in performance between the two models? Try to make the test identical.

Thanks!

It runs pretty smoothly for me with 30fps on ground, 50 in the air, better than the Mustang (which runs worst of all the planes I have, 15-35 fps).

My System, if that helps finding the bottleneck:

8GB Ram, i5 2500k 3.3Ghz, Geforce GTX560Ti, Asus P8Z68-V LX Mainboard, Installed on a Samsung SSD, Windows 7 64Bit

So what does my system have that the other´s with very low fps don´t?

Also on a related note, the MIG missions take very long to load, at least three times as long as those of any other plane. May this be related, does anyone else have this problem?

Ouch and I tought mine was lame...

I7 920 @3.4 GHz, 6GB RAM, XFX GTX 285 Black Edition, Driver 440.XY, no SSDs

I realised I haven't update my sig, it's not quite as tragic as that now. It's a Q9400 Quad with a Radeon HD 7700 these days...

Tested in the start of Taxiing lesson.

1. Original3D mesh: 30-32

2. Tweaked version with exterior 3D mesh: 30-32

3. Tweaked version with NO exterior 3D mesh: 42-45

The difference between 1-2 before update nvidia drivers to last version (from previous version) was more evident than now.

Ok the tweak and lod1 exchange is a poor man's fix really .. this need a correct optimization, details etc can be added or optimized on the bitmap texture files ( mainly for EDGE ) what is visible in your FOV and what it is drawn is important in cockpit view you should be able to see only what you are looking ..

I had a approx 6 to 7 fps boost with lower external model with my tests.

You should probably give the relative difference too.

I have no FPS problem with MiG, but in multiplayer my game keeps freezing randomly especially around airport, and it make me crash my landings a lot (

In my case it's probably crappy CPU all the way back from 2010 running at stock clock speed. I might have better GPU but for DCS it does not matter.

Please! Don't reduce the details of this bird. The Mig is just beautiful at the moment. smile.gif

Well, in real and for my personal taste the Mig-21 is one of the ugliest aircrafts out there. wink.gif But LN has done a real great job with the Mig-21 in DCS. It would be a shame if we lose something...

Leatherneck,

For me the 3D model and his cockpit are awesome and beautiful and I hope that after the next patch the 3D model and cockpit will the same quality because this module is incredible and lose this visuals quality level are sad, is it possible that Leatherneck release two differents cockpits and 3D model of the MIG 21 ?

One low or medium version and one high version ?

For me I really love and want the high version because this module is visually perfect...

Yes release two versions of this Mig-21 + his cockpit is a good idea (low or medium polygons and high polygons).

Me I want high polygons for the cockpit and the 3D model of the Mig-21.

Is it possible to have these two versions ?

Me and Nick have a plan to combat poly issues.. Texture artist may hate us though :P Anyways, the main model will remain (with some optimization too), but lod0, and 1 will appear quicker than normal. You really have to be close to see the main model.

The MiG-21Bis is my baby, so I'm working on lod0 to ensure details stay but with lower triangles. With Nick's external cockpit triangle reduction, I'm down to 150K-ish triangles now. Less than ED's optimized A-10C main model.

So far, working on lod0, I've discovered some of my own blunders, such as copies of elements overlaid.

No worries folks, you'll get your FPS back. Now go buy those GTX980s that just came out. :D

Thanks Rudel for your news,

You know I possess all the modules for DCS and the Mi-8 the FPS are low but I think that everything is normal because the 3D model is awesome and idem for the cockpit.

About you baby the cockpit is for me the most beautiful of the flight simulator and once again idem for your 3D model, your MIG-21 is just incredible, it's a real pleasure to admire the cockpit and the MIG-21 from the external view...

I'm sure that with EDGE all our PC will be upgraded and it's the price to pay for have the best simulation +1

Dear Rudel thanks again for your message and I wish you a very good week-end.

PS: I hope that the cockpit and 3D model will be the same quality and beauty after your future patch.

You shouldn't use any graphic tweaks but use standard terrain and visibility distance.. The tests must stay at basic configs to be appropriate. While flying with the cockpit view the 3D model should have just some parts that are visible from the cockpit with realistic maximum Track IR Max limits.

So while doing tests please note what are you in Sim settings! If the MiG-21 can run very smooth with success on mid range computers and quite high settings of graphics and visibility it will be a success for many to fly it .

@Skulleader I hope you are joking. :)

Visibility of buttons and gauges easy reading are most important hopefully EDGE will give this depth feeling and sight, it's a little bit of a mess imo due to shaders atm.

High FPS is priority .. while in the MiG-21,you will not be the only one flying around you.

I ordered a 970 of MSI yesterday. That one should be enough, it's overclocked and in some cases even faster than the stock 980

Don't want to wait until early next year just to see AMD releasing cards with similar performance, but up to 100W more again. And with a GeForce, I don't have to wait for EDGE anymore to get decent frame rates

So in a few days, I can throw my trusty old 6950 out of my rig and put it into my backup rig which is basically built up with what I had before upgrading anything of my main rig.

Thanks for the compliments; it's very reassuring I can continue for our next project. I would like to make clear that Cobra is the cockpit guru for this project though. That's all him. I'm strictly external. ;)

We had Track-IR limits, but had a few complaints about restrictions. It's not so much the external model, but it's the materials used. We're aware of visibility for parts and it has been corrected so far. Between the avionics and 3d stuff, everything is fighting for CPU/GPU priorities, and our coders have been setting those too.

I'm waiting to buy my next when their mainline cards utilize 6GB. It's close! I don't want to buy another two Titans..lol Though 24GB total VRAM would be nice for my work station

VRAM is not quite the main issue also though It's the amount of materials used (not textures). Cobra did a quick test with less materials and saw an improvement with FPS. I'm now going to try condensing to 3 main materials.

This means, FUSE_F/M/R/T will be on one texture, and the WING_L/R, and other bits on another.

We'll test it out and go from there.

I can granted that, See my signature.

I can run DCS at 55-60 FPS all the time with every module, and max graphic settings. One screen only 1920x1080-

Now i´m around 35-40 on ground and 50 on air with the Mig so any improvement would be very welcomed.

I'm also getting the FPS problem with the Mig, all other modules are ok 50 FPS usually, but the Mig can drop to 10 at times.

I have so far tried the hotfix that's here on the forums which helped a bit but I flew the Sabre last night for a while (there were no free Mig slots at the time on the VA server :() and that was smooth, but my FPS did drop very low even when looking at an airfield that had the Mig on it. Still playable but hard on the eyes!

The Mig is an absolute AWSOME module and the best by far out there right now and I'm very much looking forward to getting the fix that the LN guy's are working on right now, but meanwhile I just keep away from heavily populated airfields and I can get 25-30 fps just flying the Mig. My specs are in my sig below, the CPU doesn't seem to work very hard running DCS and I have plenty of RAM but the GPU is normally at 80% and I have x-fire disabled for now running DCS, as I believe it's not supported at the moment but hopefully when EDGE is released I will be able to use both GPU's ( would this mean each would be running at 40%?).

The attention to detail on the Mig-21 is astounding, and I smile every time I fly it. :pilotfly:

Inside the cockpit I have about 20 - 30 fps in the startup training mission. Depending on where I look at.

It doesn´t make much of a difference if I use 2x MSAA or 8x MSAA and disabling or enabling VSYNC doesn´t make much of a difference either.

I'd expect more from your system, but all that info is kinda incomplete without mentioning resolution.

Also, is your CPU overclocked?
