Chief Instructor Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I just tried to buy the F86 from steam for use in a non Steam installation and it won't let me purchase. It says that I must first have DCS World! I have, I just didn't get it from Steam! Is there any way around this? Chief Instructor Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Thanks xxxJohnxxx I thought of that - I just don't want to wait all night for the download to complete on my slowish broadband! Also, I don't want to add anything else to my existing Steam directory because it has a habit of getting messy! No worries, I'll just wait for another sale - or stump up the full price! Right now I'm getting to grips with the MiG21 which is keeping me fairly busy :-) CPU: Intel i9 13900KS @5.8GHz | MB: ROG Strix Z790 Gaming-E | GPU: Asus ROG Strix RTX3090 OC | RAM: 32Gb Corsair Dominator DDR5 @6200MHz | Cooling: Custom CPU/GPU cooling loop | PSU: Supernova 850G2 @ 850W | OS: Windows 10 Home Premium 64Bit Storage: 3x Samsung EVO 970 Plus M.2 1Tb + 3x Samsung 850 EVO SSD 250Gb | Input: TM HOTAS WH Saitek Combat Pedals | Output: Samsung 50" OLED TV | VR: HP Reverb G2 | Audio: Realtek + Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System
Chief Instructor Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 P.S. I'm enjoying your MiG21 tutorials - please keep them coming as the module progresses. Fri13 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Maybe download it through steam (you can uninstall it afterwards). The key you get in steam should be usable in the standalone. Edit: didn't see the earlier URL or reply as using Tapatalk to read forums: "Please note though that keys purchased on the Steam store will work on DCS World downloaded from the DCS Store." http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2085202 So Steam -> Standalone works. Sorry to 'hijack' thread littlebit but i have been wondering this. Previously ED could sync in batches keys between standalone steam versions. Then Valve didn't anymore allow it so ED stopped it. But today we can use Steam keys on standalone, but not vice versa? fearlessfrog Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Maybe download it through steam (you can uninstall it afterwards). The key you get in steam should be usable in the standalone. Steam treats the modules like DLC, so it stops people from buying unless it thinks you don't have the 'base' bits. You should be able to start the download of DCS World on Steam, let it get to 1% and pause it and then go buy and use the key. After that just remove any local steam install via Steam's DCS World entry. That's the theory anyway, as it's hard for me to do (as I already have it in my steam library).. ~~~ http://www.mudspike.com

Right now I'm getting to grips with the MiG21 which is keeping me fairly busy :-) Just start the steam download so it creates the files (allocates disk space) and then pause download, shutdown the steam and then _copy_ your standalone DCS installation to correct steam directory and overwrite the files there are. Then start steam and validate the files in game properties. You should either get few megabytes download if standalone version is up to date or at least radically save time/bandwidth. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
boedha68 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I have all the modules from steam the old modules work on Ed. But not the new modules like the F-86. Sorry i already said that. There is a answer in the forums wich one works and wich not. So the new ones must be buy double to play on steam and play on Ed. The keys don't work or on steam or on Ed. Such a pitty. It says that I must first have DCS World! I have, I just didn't get it from Steam! Is there any way around this? -Add DCS World To you Library/Start the Install Process, Click next next, next, let it make the folders, uncheck desktop icon option, Let it download for a second, then pause it and choose to manually update, then tell it to delete local files, just don't delete the empty steamapps/common/dcs/ folder. Steam will see you have the title linked to your account and just add the StarForce Proactive License Keys to you DLC/View CD KEYs Dialog. On another note, Why do I feel like we go through this same line of questions with every Steam Sale?
