Pineapple Pete Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Hello All, I would like some info on a good mouse for DCS use. My old track ball Logitech doesn't do a good job adjusting things like the the direction gyro etc. Thanks It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
Brisse Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 A simple but high performance gaming mouse such as Logitech MX518 or Razer Deathadder is what I prefer for DCS and anything else I do at my computer. Don't forget to use a good mousepad together with your mouse, it's almost as important as the mouse itself. Right now I'm using a Deathadder 3.5G on a Steelseries QcK mousepad. Very happy with this combination.

Chief1942 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Just recently obtained a Cooler Master Storm mouse and keyboard. The mouse replaces my old Logitech. The jury is still out as to whether there is any noticeable improvement in mouse accuracy. It sure is Purdy what with all the neon green lights and all, but that doesn't replace my desire to have a mouse that simply works every time without me even having to think about it. Do some research on gaming forums. Lots of experience and OPINIONS out there. Beware of fan boys. cichlidfan Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Assuming you are right handed, the Logitech G700 or G700s are excellent mice in terms of function but are also, to me, the most comfortable to hold of any mouse that I have owned (I currently own about a dozen mice from different vendors i.e. Razer, CM, Corsair, etc.) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Probably the most comfortable ergonomic mouse I've ever used. My G700S also serves as a remote since my TV is hooked to the PC. Not to mention not having a cable when you're sitting in a simpit also makes things easier. PiedDroit Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Logitech M315. It doesn't have this "quick scroll" wheel and its reasonably light (only one battery). I don't even consider mice with a wire or with 2 batteries now, this limits the options. I also have a fairly big hand but the small size of the mouse is not problem, I use it with the finger tips. Cheers

TAW_Blaze Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) I'd stay away from razer products. I have a deathadder myself, after a year or so it started having click/scroll issues, atm it's about 4 yrs old and it's borderline broken. Their recent cloud driver is a pile of shit, it doesn't work offline and you have to keep logging in. Not to mention I've heard other ppl saying that it slows the system. I reverted to old driver. Honestly the only good thing about the deathadder is that there's a left handed version.. Heard a lot of good about steelseries sensei, I'll do some more research but it's likely my replacement candidate. I miss the good old build qualities, we had a little samsung mouse that cost nothing. We smashed it for like 7 years playing diablo 2 and other click heavy based games and it never had a single problem. My deathadder was doubleclicking/skipping after a year of diablo 3 in comparison. One might call bad luck with faulty production, but even then their software support drives me away from buying anything from them again. Seriously, next thing you know you gotta log in before you can take a piss. Edited June 23, 2015 by <Blaze>
zxarkov Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I swear by Logitech accessories, had a MX518 for several years, wore out the left click after too much gaming :P Upgraded to the newer series the Logitech G402 Hyperion which goes for $33 USD on amazon. Early model Razer Diamondback Chameleon. This one has seen many hours of abuse, and despite being more than ten years old, it still works flawlessly. It was my first real "gaming mouse". 2. Impressed with the Diamondback, I went out and bought a Copperhead as soon as it came out. This one was a major disappointment. It promised the fastest and most precise sensor available at the time of it's launch, but it turned out it had huge problems with reading common materials, even those used in gaming mousepads. It also stopped tracking if you moved it above a certain speed. I still have it and it still works, but it's not seen that much gaming use for obvious reasons. It was relegated to laptop duty. 3. Some friends of mine got the relaunched and updated Diamondbacks, with the new sensor and different aesthetics. They performed well, but it turned out they were not as durable as the early models. 4. Razer Deathadder 3.5G. I have had this one for a few years now as my primary mouse. It has great performance, good ergonomics and has been durable. I would buy another one if it suddenly stopped working, but I doubt that will happen any-time soon. Blaze talked about "drivers" which I feel I have to reply to. What Blaze meant when talking about "driver" was the optional Razer Synapse software. I have not had any trouble with it, but I really want to point out that it is OPTIONAL and it's a piece of software that is much more than just a driver. It's not fair to call it a "driver", although it does keep your drivers for any Razer product automatically up to date. If you don't want Razer Synapse, then you can install just the Deathadder driver by itself, or even just run the standard Windows mouse driver.
agrasyuk Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I'm on my second deathadder . It is comfortable enough, but I question it's reliability . The very first one had LMB completely shot within the initial warrantly. The free replacement lasted few years but thwn developed the nasty double click issue. Bought the newer deathadder model and now after few years here is that LMB issue again - sporadic mouse releases. Annoying as hell when when suddenly dropping files into wrong folders, loosing Excell ranges etc. I don't know, maybe few years of normal use is a good figure, is a good mouse when it clicks. But the thing with new online driver is complete killer for me. Thinking of logitec, will be following this thread Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project

It wouldn't strike me as unusual to see a company start out with outstanding build quality and then scale it back after they made sufficient hype about themselves. Obviously we can't tell :) . Yeah it's more than a driver but they want to shove it down your throat so hard it's difficult not to manage installing it, especially for the first time. You have to go pretty deep on their homepage to find a driver that is actually labeled STANDALONE LEGACY. Clear indicator that their strategy is to eventually wipe those out and only support the synapse junk. What was utterly nonsense is that with synapse installed the options you have set in it would not apply until you actually logged in. I agree the adder is a great mouse as long as it works. Thinking of logitec, will be following this thread I would expect no less than 5 years of wear to break a piece of hardware clearly intended for people to actually smash it. Especially for the price it sells. The time I bought my adder it actually costed half as much as it does now, and I don't recall any big changes after the 3.5G version. Nothing worth a double up in price, anyway.
Bedouin Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Have always been very satisfied with my Razer Mamba, just changed to a Roccat and is a bit disappointed...
MegOhm_SD Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Three years with the Mamba. No issues. Since my headset and TIR Proclip are wireless, I like the wireless option with the Mamba. I don't use a desk. Everything is mounted to my chair including mousepad. So no wires is a good thing. However, I will plug it in for a shooter which is rare these days. Never had an occasion where the battery died on me. Bucic Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) 3 years with Razer Abyssus. Plenty of issues even though I don't play nor am a graphics designer. Sensor jittering (well known), squeeky wheel, worn out button press pieces. My next one is going to be Roccat. Linux support as a bonus! :) Logitech: If you don't make a living as a blacksmith I wouldn't buy any Logitech mouse with scroll wheel/ middle button design similar to the one in G500. It uses a ridiculously stiff on-PCB nonexchangeable microswitch. $15 mices have better middle mouse buttons. cichlidfan Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) I just looked through my records, out of curiosity. My most used mice are my Logitech G700 (4 yrs old), G700s (2 yrs), Corsair M60 (2 yrs) and Corsair M95 (1 yr). All were $80 or less with the 700s being my favorite, all around, for pretty much the same reasons that DarkEagle likes his Mamba (ergonomics and wired/wireless). My 3 year old Rat 7 (also less than $80) is a nice mouse, and does look good, but even with the adjustments and interchangeable parts, it still is not as comfortable.
