DX11 is a wonderful thing, nice to see a flight sim making full use of it , thereby utilizing all that processing power in the graphics card.

And to think this thing is still technically in beta, maybe even some more polishing to come...

DCS 1.5 has definitely exceeded all my expectations by far. Can't wait to see NTTR!

Great work. Getting the same frames in the openbeta as in the current release.

Had the MSVCR.dll problem but a quick search fixed that.

The lighting and HDR is lovely, it's been worth the wait.:)

Bring on the hordes of roaming zombies and the drop in mechs:D

I had also hoped some kind of parkour mechanic would have been made available with this update.

Yeah I had that same issue and a search solved it for me pretty quickly as well...

I went back into the sim and cranked all my graphics settings to high and sliders moved full to the right, amazingly did not cost me anything in fps, still getting 123 fps.

This is incredible.

N00b question. How or what do you use to monitor frame rate?

I personally use MSI Afterburner for my graphics monitoring, I have a Logitech G19 keyboard and display the info in it's LCD readout.

DCS also has a built in frame rate counter, you can look in settings to find the key command for it as well.

rctrl-pause and FPS/stats will appear in top left corner of screen, press multiple times to display more data or remove from screen.

It's a rare and beautiful thing when you get better graphics & better performance from the same patch. Don't think i've ever seen that before.

Great patch!

Frame rates will still drop below 20.

Mine runs clearly worse than before. A fairly busy mission that used to run at 30FPS capped without any dips - and I mean that literally - now drops to 16FPS when there's lots of stuff happening. And buildings seem to slow things down a lot as well now, which has never happened before. Hmmm...

OK, a couple of notes to self:

1) This is still beta

2) When in doubt, tweak ;)

3) Finally give this old beat-up GTX580 the boot fergadssakes

But I'm investigating further & will let you know if I hit something worthwhile...

Have you messed with your settings at all, to try and tune it, and what are your full specs. How much memory on that vid card?

Similar issues here, changing settings has a small effect, the only one that was truly noticeable was cutting down visible range, but I think there was still some stuttering around cities, I'll need to check again later. I can hit 60 FPS pretty much everywhere else, even when looking directly though smoke, which would kill FPS before.

Specs in sig.

I've just started to tweak my settings & the video card has 3GB, which I'm sure is enough. But since this thread is about first impressions, I thought I'd just give mine ;)

But hey, I'm definitely gonna be good eventually, so no sweat. And if nothing else helps, well, the old 580 gets the axe and I'm off to the shops! And THEN we'll see how it goes...

I am not sure what the rest of your system specs are, but with DCS 1.5 making great use of DX11, that would probably be a very smart move. I am amazed by the great performance I am getting with 1.5, finally my GTX 970 is getting utilized properly... for me and my rig, the difference is night and day.

Hey! When did the Tornado get such a nice 3d model? Did I miss this during a previous update, or is this new in 1.5 and someone forgot to mention it in the changelog?

I believe Matt stated that graphics power is key now instead of CPU power if i'm not mistaken?

So people who are getting worse fps then before (I for one get way more frames then before now that EDGE is taking advantage of my GTX 980) I would suggest trying to over clock your card, or to try and buy a new one. It would be worth the money :).

I think Nvidia is partly to blame here. I have heard a lot of complaints about their drivers regarding their older architectures with other DX11 games. Basically they have been improving and optimizing their drivers for the 9XX series of cards at the expense of their older cards. It's not just the drivers though, you have to remember that back when the GTX580 was new, DirectX11 was also fairly new, as both Nvidia and Mirosoft pushed their hardware and software design to convergence performance gains were made by each subsequent generation of cards. Remember the 5XX and 9XX series are three generations apart.

My advice, try and find some older drivers and see how they work.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Downloaded overnight and flew it this morning for a short time before work. Max settings looked great and flew silky smooth. My only objection is that, compared to pre-1.5, the color tones are very, very cool. Looking forward to spending more time with it and playing with both the sim and Nvidia settings.

I've gone back and forth with the drivers over the years a lot, but have lately settled with the latest because they _used_ to work pretty good with v1.2.16. Alas, not so anymore, but I'll try an older set and see what happens now.

And yeah, the card is outdated, so I'll probably have to buy a 900-series card or some such anyway. But in the meantime, I'll just see what I can wring out of this old bugger still. S!

PS / EDIT: as I remember it, there's a 320.xx driver that is particularly good with the GTX580, so I'll try to remember the exact version and try it out again. We'll see...

PS2: the card is overclocked already, so I'm going to leave that as is for now.

Wow, on my R290 I see at least doubled FPS. Everything runs smoothly, just like old times, when I had Nvidia GTX 280. One minor issue - I had to switch back to native 1920x1200, because in VSR (2560x1600) clickspots don't match, but that's probably driver issue.
