Majime Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 The Steam version is showing as being $43.99 CAD while the DCS Shop version is $49.99 USD. It actually works out cheaper to buy it on steam with the 20% discount than for me to buy it from the DCS Shop with the $25 bonus off (as I have to pay the CAD to USD conversion rates). Will the DCS Shop version be dropping in price as well to $39.99 USD or is this an error?

kingpinda Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I thought the Steam modules were always a tad higher but haven't really payed much attention. But if you buy on steam you can easily bind the serial to your Non Steam DCS World. The other way around isn't possible. I ussually don't have much money to burn so i ussually wait for discounts on the dcs site. Sometimes up to 70/75 percent discounts are given. Mostly around bank holidays. next up would be christmas or newyear I would guess. You have to remember most of the discounts on DCS website and Steam are not simultanously. So if you really really want the module right now. Compare and buy on either steam or website and then bind via the website to the NON steam dcs world
ED Team Wags Posted October 17, 2015 ED Team Posted October 17, 2015 Steam users get a 20% discount for one week because L-39 was first launched on the e-shop with a 20% pre sell discount. It is the fair thing to do. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Twitch: wagmatt System: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729544#post3729544

But it didnt and doesnt install anything. It showes "not installed" (although option "install" is marked) and I cannot get the download started. Anyone maybe knows the problem and can tell me the solution? Many thanks for reading. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

If you using 1.5 then you need to add your key to your DCS files user profile and then it will prompt you to download when you start DCS and log in.

doorgunner Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Have you installed DCS World in Steam? Yes I have. All previous AddOns worked worked fine so far. Last before L-39C was MiG-15. Thanks for reading. Is anyone flying the Albatros on steam already at all? Edited October 19, 2015 by doorgunner [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ramsay Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Is anyone flying the Albatros on steam already at all? Yes, bought and flew L-39 Saturday (17-10-2015) morning as soon as I found out it was available on Steam. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
doorgunner Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I solved the problem - either by activating beta (which i think it was the solution) or by letting steam check the local files. I did both in a short time - resulting first in nothing and a bit later - tadaaaa there she was. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
sc_neo Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 so for the very slow ones like me:) make very clear one more time please: 1.) If i buy on steam i can use the acompanying key to activate the non steam version downloadable from the ED website? 2.) Does the steam version require the Starforce activation as the non steam version does? thx guys

If i buy on steam i can use the acompanying key to activate the non steam version downloadable from the ED website? Yes. Just not the other way around. You can't activate a steam module with a key bought on the ED website. 2.) Does the steam version require the Starforce activation as the non steam version does? Sorry don't know
Ramsay Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 2.) Does the steam version require the Starforce activation as the non steam version does? Yes, although once activated, you can run both the steam and standalone versions on the same PC without using another activation (unless your hardware changes, etc.). i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440

sc_neo Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 thx guys, excellent news. Good to know that this flexibility exists. Is there any particular advantage to run the ED version vs the steam version of the game?
Ramsay Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Is there any particular advantage to run the ED version vs the steam version of the game? The standalone:- Can use module keys from Steam and the ED Store - so take advantage of any sale at any time. New modules and campaigns are released on the ED Store first - Steam users need to wait a couple of week/month to buy. ED has a discount/loyalty scheme for purchases. Unused/Duplicate Modules (i.e. F-15C + FC3) can be deactivated and given to a friend. In game Module Manager is used to handle updates and module downloads Open Beta is a separated install, so you can have stable and test versions co-installed For Steam:- Unified games library Faster download speeds for some. 14 day/2 hr refund policy Steam handles updates. Modules are treated as DLC Open beta is an update of the existing install I use Steam, as that's were most of my games are, but had to buy BS2 a 2nd time as the upgrade wouldn't transfer. I'm also due a couple of WWII keys from the kickstarter that I can't use there. So if you buy from the ED Store, you will gain flexibility but once you buy from there, you can't go back to the Steam version and have all your modules without buying again.
