DCS Now A Slide Show

Recommended Posts

Since this latest patch (1.5.1.46722.87), DCS is now a slide show.

When I'm turning I get huge stutters, in every module.

It was fairly smooth prior to this latest patch.

It's not extremely bad in this video but still present.

When I first tried this mission this morning it was extremely bad.

Also, there's a bizarre problem with the trees rendering properly.

There are groups of trees that are dark green that appear late.

Most of the duller forested areas are rendered at a very far distance.

I've posted the track file.

Yes I can confirm with trackIR on when turning or looking around my FPS jumps wildly from 45 to 60 to 30 to 50 to 60 all over the place. Massive stutter.

Just to add...not running sli or crossfire. Before patch I was locked at 60 fps high settings no matter what I threw at the Sim. After the patch though turning the plane and/or turning my head with trackir on causes wild fluctuations in fps which causes a large stutter present.

Have you tried a repair? It might magically fix it....

Crossfire and SLI can cause this in 1.5, are you running that?

Nope, I posted my specs in the preferences section but it's not showing up for some reason. I'm running a GTX 970 on a Rampage IV Extreme with an i7 Quad Core processor. It was perfect before this last patch.

Now it's showing up, go figure.

The only other thing I know to suggest is to play with each graphic setting one by one to see if anything changes. With these hot fixes I've noticed sometimes an individual setting, such as MSAA, will all of a sudden start causing problems for me. If this is the case for you, lowering it down a lot may provide you a temporary fix until the next patch.

EDIT: Also check your systems performance with something like MSI Afterburner while you run DCS to see if your system is doing something strange.

I run 2 970s and my stutter got pretty bad. Not worried though. I'm sure 2.0 will fix it.

I can confirm I'm getting the tree issue as well (dark trees that don't seem to be affected by distance for atmospheric 'hazing' (the blue hue)). This is especially notable in the Su25T Easy CAS mission from instant action.

However, I do not seem to have any stutter issues at this stage.

Running in Fullscreen ?

Any other ( sound, HBA, USB30, etc.. )PCEe cards in your board that suck on the IRQs ???

Too many onboard devices activated that suck IRQs ?

Disable all that junk ( COM, ext SATA, add. Mobo features etc.,. ) that you dont need for DCS and try again.

Standard i7 boards for standard i7's have a TOTAL of 16 PCIe lanes, well, the Nvidia/ATI card alone wants all 16...hmmm...but has to share them with a zillion of onboard devices like sound, usb2-3, firewire4-8, pch, add. Sata, M2, etc etc... Now go figure how likely it is that your IRQs misfire inbetween ( like that term haha ) and cut data flow ? It is very likely !

That is the #1 reason why server chipsets, boards and CPU have 3-4 x the amount of PCIe lanes, dead simpel, math 2nd grade elem. school but Intel still rides the 16x lane horse...

*I have multiple add-ons of my mobo deactivated for this matter, eveyrthing you dont need, turn it off. COM, ext.Sata, Bluetooth, Firewire = 4 things I dont need, 4 IRQs I wont occupy/share

Its not my system. Its not the settings in the game. Its the patch itself. My system and hardware didnt change from patch to patch and my settings I ensured were exactly the same as pre-patch. The patch caused the stutters and frame drops especially with trackir on. Pre-patch I was getting a steady 60 FPS with no stutters whatsoever.

I agree with you completely on this. It's not my system either. I was getting excellent frame rates and absolutely no stutter before the weekend update and now it's basically unflyable. So this is definitely an update related issue.

very starnge, mine runs smooth like silk at higher fps than with the prev patches, honestly.

Mostly way above 100fps, often hitting the limiter at 145fps, never below ~55-60fps in any module yet but the Mi8 and Ka50 that will max out at 80-90fps in cockpit. ( all settings max incl shadows, MSAA 4x HDR )

I have tested with the Mig 15, 21 F86, Mi8 ka50 C101..and the Pony

I still have the mem leak but elsewhere it seems better ( to me ).

I would love to see if and how much better it would get if you attach just and only a Gsync Monitor or AMD equivalent.

From what I have read so far, who ever got such a setup solved all his stutter, regardless if 1.2.x or 1.5 OB.

Iam not saying go and buy one, I am just curious if it would fix it and then try to reverse track what it could be if syncing properly fixed it.

Try renaming your saved games folder and restarting the sim, not this will remove all settings and key bindings.

If I do this, can I import my controller settings so I wont have to reconfig as I have many keyboard bindings remapped.

Tried this but it did not make any difference. Please note the DCS splash screen appearing and the really bad freeze at about 5 seconds.

no mods installed for me on my end. Just a vanilla install of the Beta. I dont even have any other version of DCS installed on my machine other than 1.5.1. My stutters seem to be worse at the beginning of the mission. They do get a little better but the frame drops still occur when panning with trackir or when turning the aircraft.

No mods or anything installed? Clean vanilla install of Beta?

No mods at all but program was updated by the patch system on Saturday and it took about 4 hours and was around 3 GB. I think that the server was quite busy. I'm starting to wonder if some files were corrupted because of how long it took. I may make a back up of my users folder and do a fresh installation from scratch to see if it goes away. But definitely this is a problem that happened after the patch.
