Yes ED, while the download was painful, a BIG thank you for this wonderful map which I'm sure will get better every week. The FPS is fantastic and the scenery is breathtaking. I just cant get enough!!!!

I feel your pain. I started at 10am and finally got to have fun flying at 7pm... I warned the wife before she even got home, "I'm going to be busy, I love you but leave me alone!" :D Now who can sleep at a moment like this?!?

The old, "I love you, now leave me alone." How many times have I said that while sitting in the pit.

So what's performance like? Is it noticeably more resource intensive than the Caucasus?

I put off buying it as my rig is way less than stellar (and below stated minimum), nvidida 550 2GB graphics card with an Athlon Phenom 2 and 8 Gigs of RAM. Upgrade is not coming anytime soon unfortunately but the Black Sea map is running ok by my standards.

Not expecting good news, but figured I'd ask anyway. Have fun!

Ohhhhh it's here and my god it's incredible, bizarre that the first thing I should notice is the sound. Runway noise on take off roll and airspeed noise if your in a dive subtle but outstanding, the graphics engine and scenery is almost real world. I got my real world pilots licence waiting on this, circuit after circuit of bantumi and now this to go and explore. It's like getting a brand new sim for nothing just because I supported what looked like an interesting flight sim development all those years ago. Thanks ED you guys have taken a lot of stick over this, I'm as guilty as the rest for taking out my frustration on you. Sit back and relax, you have created something truly special here. Oh and the load up time is a fraction off what it used to be - outstanding!

Being back at Nellis is like coming home after being away for nearly 20 years. Last time I visited Nellis was in Jane's Combat Simulations USAF. I even remember shooting down guys in MP near the hoover dam back then and doing an emergency landing on one of all these mountain plateaus.

I wanna add that I feel the main difference between both maps being as followed:

Black Sea feels more generic, featuring autogen scenery. The map aimed and succeeded to let the ground beneath you look like some real country as much as possible. It wanted to look good when flying across it.

Nevada instead wants to be explored. It is not a map to simply enjoy somewhere below your flight path. This map wants to be discovered near the ground, to actually get you getting used to different sites and locations. There seems to be much stuff to stumble over, so it perceives worth to be inspected thoroughly.

After a quick check, it's probably due to copyright limitations for commercial use.

Recently, I've been using a FSX scenery (payware) to get familiar with the Nevada region and those landmarks/PoI were in.

Nothing crucial. Also, the "OMG Brand" made me smile :)

Yeah....I had the Xplane Vegas pay ware. I really hated it. I was always expecting Bugs Bunny to pop up somewhere because of the total cartoony appearance of it. This is certainly not the case here. This is very nicely done.

But in the Xplane version, every Casino and hotel had it's real world name. To me though.....the trade off is well worth it. I could never bring myself to go back to that pay ware Vegas. DCS Vegas however, I'm loving flying around in.

Sorry Mods. I'll shut my pie hole about other sims now. It was just impossible not to compare the two.

DCS World 2.0 UH-1 Flight

Hey guys I took a quick spin in the UH-1 through the Vegas strip. Download time was painfully long. Still have to get all my modules installed too. Anyway this is an epic detail of a map and look forward to exploring everything in it.

OK...here are my settings. Yeah, I know, my first two are set to high, but it has never really hindered performance and I'm kind of fond of the detail level.

I am by no means a computer guru and if anyone sees anything that they think should be changed, I'm open to all options.

Hi guys, well like everyone else download was slow, very slow. All in all took 10hrs from start to finish. :(

However for those still downloading, don't give up, because DAMN it's worth it.

My first flight, was my beloved Huey, lifted from Nellis, and flew down the strip at 30ft, damn what a stunning job guys, can't wait to see her at night. Oh and that was closely followed, by a skid landing on the strip. ( hint, those trees are collideable, if any finds the end of my rotors, if you could send them back to me please. ;) )

Anyway, so 2nd flight was Nellis, to Vegas, taking the highway out to Boulder City and down towards Hoover Dam. Followed by a low approach down the valley and a close area landing at the bottom of the dam. Damn she's huge while you are sat on the ground next to her. However as mentioned before by OP, the Huey sits approx 4-5 ft off the ground while landed.

Then a low level flight back to Nellis. Sadly then RL called and I had to go to work.

However I can't wait to get back flying, it truely is a stunning map, and the exciting thing is I know I've only scraped at the surface.

Huge Well done Guys.

I think if you have flat shadows the shadows in the drop down menu can be off. Also I don't think a 1024 res cockpit will kill your card but will be more pleasant for you:)

Thanks for the info/find. I used to run a training mission in FSX SuperBug where I would practice flight proceedures, take offs, and landings from Fallon to Reno, down to McCarran, and then back to Fallon. Looking forward to revisiting the approach again.

I set up the range at Groom lake today with tanks and trucks. Set the date for Oct. at around 16:00. Holy cow!!!! If you have never been over the desert in an airplane or have never traveled through the Western deserts. That is exactly what it looks like!

ED has created the most realistic desert landscape I have ever experienced in a flight sim.

I really felt like I was flying over the Sonora Desert (I know this isn't but they're similar). It's great to have a map of an area that I am very familiar with and have spent, and still spend a lot of time in. That's just awesome.

30 hours and only 4GB to go...

You chaps really shouldn't be complaining about 10 hours, there are some suffering far worse than me too.

Thanks for the write-ups though, it appears there's no memory leaks, major bugs?

What a delight to fly!!! I just got out of the cockpit after a first flight and ED's done a wonderful job.

The level of details adds much more realism and speed perception.

Here's my flight plan:

zA2u10R.jpg

I took off from Nellis after configuring my Su-27 controls.

I placed a few other aircraft to put some life around the airbase:

A couple of L-39C with some low flying waypoints - they didn't make it to the end, probably crashed…

4*F-15E flying around.

2*Su-27 (Russian Knights) roughly following my flight plan landing at Groom Lake.

2*F-5E Agressors flying around Nellis and orbiting.

(I forgot to include the USAF Agressors "country" when I created the mission and I had to tweak the ROE, radar, and Threat Reaction options - so it does not go boom instantly)

Flying above the Hoover dam and through the strip was just amazing. I almost crashed into a palm tree and probably gave it a free hair cut (I think I lost my drag chute).

I've been careful all along and not too adventurous with the low flying (something like 60 feet/20 metres above the ground @ 700-800 km/h / 400 kts at best, in the desert).

From what I've seen on Google Earth/Maps and some pictures, the Groom Lake facility has been carefully recreated and I was very pleased to find that little surprise…

Overall it's a fantastic experience and the rendering performance is really good (GTX 970 + not so powerful hardware).

I'll just drop my custom mission here and if you're interested, the track is available via Dropbox (too big for the forum).

Keep in mind it might be boring to watch as I was just having fun and observing all the lovely details.

I've been lucky enough to cross one Albatros and I landed a few minutes before the other flankers…

It's time to get a chopper now ;)

Have fun guys! It's worth all the struggle with the download speed!

On behalf of the rest of us down here, thanks for that Dylan. It actually made me feel better

For me, only another 3 GB of NTTR and then the modules to go. The latest version of the updater seems to have helped some with a higher number of peers allowed.

Reading the reports and watching the clips from the rest of you has also helped my state of Zen return and to get the download rage monster back in its box. However, I've decided to hold onto this little memento.

WOW, just... Could finally fly yesterday and it was awesome even if a bit chaotic. What i dont understand: since 1.5 came out i couldnt play online due to massive lag and lack of servers. It was a huge surprise when i discovered that there are servers with 30 players and more on 2.0.

Will leave work early today :DD

Ah and btw: try to eject over las vegas, the city is so detailed, you can even hear the sounds of cars and wind. So much details! (It's the first software i've ever used, which takes 7gb of ram)

Just doing basic circuits to start with, to check the set-up for each module's aircraft.

I don't know the area at all, so it'll take me time to find interesting stuff, but as there don't seem to be any missions as yet, a quick placing of an aircraft on the ramp and off we go - quickest way to have a look.

Screenshots

I'll set up some target practice missions after I've tested all the controller configurations. Should be fun.

Only problem so far, which might well be a config thing, is the jagged shadow edges and the heat blur effect, which looks a bit OTT imo, if you look at the rear view of the Eagle on take-off, for example.

I used to use the simple blur setting and I think it looked better, so I'll try that next time, as this was on the full setting.

There's a hell of a lot of desert out there!

Bourrinopathe, thanks for the Su-27 flight plan - I'll use that for my Flanker test

Main question though, is the lag issue from 1.5 fixed in 2.0 mp

Really missing my mo sessions at mo, but due to the lag no one can play.
