Surströmming is for real men!

They have said that supporting AI units will come with any plane that "feels out of place" which the Viggen would fall under. However, if they do make ground units they are bound to be CA capable.

For example, i think these units are needed to support the module / just for the cool factor.

AI JA 37's for the interceptor role.

RBS 67 (Hawk) battery.

RBS 70 Manpad.

Bkan 1A/1C SP artillery.

Strv 103 tank or Strv 121 tank.

Pbv 302 IFV or Strf 9040 IFV (CV9040)

Logistic and Fuel trucks.

We need these units (in the picture) :)

Additional to your list is primarily IKV and STRV-104 (Centurion).

they could also use Centurions or leopard 2s.

Since this is the AJS-37 that would place it in the 90s or later (wich would be slightly fictional since the attack viggens where retired between 98-2000.

so Leopard 2s (2a4 or 2a5) would also work.

but actually the upgraded centurions left service after the strv 103s did (last strv-103s where retired in 97 where as the last centurions where retired in the end of year 2000)

so centurions and leopard 2s would work just fine.

Sure the 103 would be more uniqe but leo2s are ingame and the centurion is a more common tank that if its not in the game already would fit plent of nations.

Id rather they spend time on the AJS-37 first and maby give the Leo2s/hawks a swedish paintjob and start with that.

then maby throw in some apcs / centurion or strv 103.

Problem with the RBS-70 i dont know if that type of missile system it modeld for the AI ingame yet.

the RBS-70 is a beamrider and as such is not a F&F weapon so dont know if AI is able to effectivley use such a weapon as is.

Thanks Skjold! I kind of suspected that they were bound to be CA-capable but not sure so thank you for clearing that out. Oh the waiting time is really hard.

I am getting more and more exited, Also if the theaters are what we believe them to be like, one can really hide some nasty surprises in that kind of scenery.

Ps. Awesome pictures!

EDIT: Now as well I am looking at Swedish Navy vessels. Surely they must be there as well :D

Just wanted to give a big thanks to the Swedes that corrected and expanded on my crappy cockpit diagrams. My Swedish is too poor to be of any help from here on out (and I spent hours hunting for some of those designations), so I'll just disappear and leave it to the pros. :D

I wouldn't expect too much, making 3d models is expensive. Don't get your hopes up too much!

They were not crappy. However not 100%.

And as you could tell from the following discussions even Swedes had a hard time to understand some of it :music_whistling:

Dreams might come true. As for a starter I will settle with some big landing crafts (Ropucha), ro-ro ships and perhaps the big Zubr LCAC.

As i understand it Cobra is still quite ill, although in recovery. I don't think well get to much info from LNS until he feels well enough to get back to work. :-)

Sounds like he's been eating too much freshfruit!

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

I am sure that no matter what will be available on release that being beta or alpha, LN is the company that make dreams come true. We just have to give them all the money and time they can ask for.

LNS have, by the quality of their work and of their interaction with us normally, in my opinion, earned this break. If it was some other company, I might be a bit less happy about the radio silence, but for these guys, I have no problem giving them this.

The optical illusion will be hard to mimic... But let's wait and see how LNS will approach this one.

But the optical illusion (well, not so much illusion as projection) is already mimiced in plenty of aircraft in DCS. Here, the linked Saab history leaflet even spells it out:

The VID contains of HUD related optics without reflecting glass and 90 degree prism, and the optics presents a virtual picture which gives the pilot the impression of a larger screen floating in the air at a comfortable distance.
The same as a HUD only without the transparency. This is nothing new or groundbreaking in the context of DCS.

And as a former Navy engineer, if we get the Swedish archipelago, we need this of course :)

It's convenient that they share anti ship missiles with the Viggen :)

There is a bit of a difference, the hud is projected onto a slanted piece of glass, but it appears to be floating in thin air.

The V.I.D is projected into thin air in front of the pilot.

And lo, Reverend Vegas did say "Take forth unto the infidel the mighty GAU 8 and expend its holy 30MM so that freedom will be brung upon them who knoweth not the joys of BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT"

That's what I said. The only difference is the lack of transparency. That's the only thing the glass is for, reflecting the HUD view into the outside view.

This is what makes me very curious on the ViD and how it actually looks like to the pilot.

First time I saw a 37 cockpit I assumed one was to look into this small view for targetting the Mav's but as I read up on this gear just a few months ago I started to Think there's something more to this display.

(and in Falcon 4 I made it the RWR haha)

Trace a couple rays through the lenses to get the optics right, Then render the projected view into the scope. If they can make targeting pods and mirrors work, a magnified sight should be doable too.

Yea I see people are sweating the optic a bit but I do not think it will be very hard for them to do.

People, the VID uses exactly the same optics as a HUD or reflex sight. All it lacks is 1 (in words: one) mirror. So you look into it directly instead of through a reflection.

By all the puzzlement and wonder in regard to the VID going around here I'd half expect the people posting this to go "WHAT SORCERY IS THIS" when encountering a HUD.

Posted

im a bit confused but can somone clearify exactly what the VID is projecting?

is it showing the image from the Maverick or is it simply a "zoomed" in optic to give a better view of the targets?

My understanding was the first but i might be wrong =P.

Can someone explain the difference?

As I understand both project an image at the infinite (collimated) ("floating in the air"), but HUD is, through mirror and 45° tranparent glass, superimposes this to the external view.

Edit: Above: explains difference: the image is not send to infinite but emulates a screen!
