lunaticfringe Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Just wanted to mention that a number of retailers are running Samsung's Fathers Day promotion for the next two weeks, and you can get a free Gear VR with the purchase of a Note 5, S7, or S7 Edge. Actually picked up a Note 5 from Best Buy this week, and they permitted me to get the VR at no charge today, even though the promotion just started this morning. So if you need a new phone and are interested in the Galaxy hardware, keep this in mind.
Crew Dog Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Stereo Monitor Profile should have 3D Depth. It does indeed show in 3D when using native stereo monitor. For those who are using the Trinus, disable the Fake3D setting in the Trinus options, it'll compress the image and will constantly scream at you about the resolution not being optimised. It is a decent intro option for VR with good potential once you dial in your settings to match your phone/headset (mine is Samsung s6/Google Cardboard). Only gripe I have is apparently my phone cant handle 1920x1080 smoothly, but I'm not getting the dizziness/nausea that others are complaining about when the image isn't a minimum of 70Hz Interesting workaround Aries, I was wondering how to properly set it us without having my curves nearly maxed out. Alphazulu Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Hi Aries, I tried this setup but I am wondering how you got it to render DCS in side by side mode to use a cardboard or Gear VR? The video is streaming to my phone over Wifi but if I launch DCS it just comes up normal. Thanks, Alpha

Redacuragsr Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 BTW...for those that are having trouble with the launching of oculus home when you plug in your phone there is an app you can download (I forgot the name, but I am sure you can google it) that can disable the oculus home service from starting on your android phone when you plug it in to the Samsung gear VR. If you have a good router or wifi card the streaming in 4K is actually pretty smooth.....on a galaxy s7 edge the graphics are almost as good as the rift, but not quite. Along with the stereo monitor view setting in DCS and Track IR the experience can be pretty enjoyable, and you will get that wow stereoscopic 3D factor, though you would have to mess with the zoom function to make the scale feel somewhat more immersive. However comparing it to the rift the head movements don't feel quite as natural, but on the bright side you don't have to twist your neck all the way back with track IR to check your six, and it doesn't feel strange or throw your brain off balance as some may think. Also when streaming through the moonlight app, be careful as it sometimes assigns it own controls to your joystick/throttle/rudder axis so just go into your aircraft axis setting and delete them otherwise you might not be able to control your plane. It might not be an oculus but its definitely a good introduction to VR and for cheap.
Alphazulu Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Go to DCS Settings and select Stero from Display drop down. It will run DCS in side by side mode When I go to Monitors (don't see any "display" settings) and change it to stereo it just shows half of the DCS window on half od the monitor. It does not show them side by side. Thanks, Alpha

Once in the 'pit, it'll properly show on the entire display adjusted for 3D viewing Thanks...I gave this a try and yes it split the screen in pit but the split was perfectly 50 50 with no distortion around the edges. When viewed through the Gear VR the images did not match up and just looked like double vision or being way to drunk. FYI- for other people I see a lot of people on here discussing ways to stop Oculas software from running....this really isn't necessary. For people with this issue make sure you are installing "Intugame Gear VR" software and on your phone and not Intugame. They are different apps and even through the Intugame app has a setting for Gear VR it still launches the Oculas software and gets in the way. The Intugame Gear VR app works correctly and stops to Oculas app from running when putting the phone in. Alpha
SkateZilla Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 if Oculus users wanted to bypass Oculus all together, they can disable direct to display, and disable VR in DCS, Run the HMD as an extended Monitor, and Put DCS in Stereo Mode and Use alternate tracking software, There was a Open Source Software that Supposedly supported the Oculus Camera/Tracking. Alpha Use Trinus VR and you have tons of options to set individual eye screen sizing, screen offsets, screen distortion, X, Y sizing etc. I don't have Gear VR but I tried tons of different software with other google VR head sets. Trinus is the best, you can run every pc game with it. Even you can run games that don't have Stero option. Trinus has the option to split screens for you. If you want true 3D effects then the game must support Stero option like in DCS world. Well you can visit google card board thread in my sig for different alternates. Win10, Intel 3rd Gen. Phil C6 Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 F15 half of HUD?, zoom?, 6DOF? Hi Guys, I'm using the stereo mode from DCS (side by side) with Moonlight, but in the F15 I don't get all the HUD for both eyes (1 part at left other part at right) check screenshot it's very disturbing, is it a bug? how to fix it? 2- How activate Zoom? (I set a button on Toggle Zoom in UI Layer but didn't find how it works) 3- I have been the same idea than Jacks about 6DOF combined but i didn't got it working, is it possible to put 3DOF (rotation) on Smartphone and 3DOF (Translation) on TIR working together? Best regards

Best regards That is exactly the way the HUD works. It allows for a wider field of view by combining the image of both eyes through the glass, without the need for a wider HUD physically. I know it feels strange at first, but that is how it works in real life. You see the left edge of the HUD display area with your right eye and vice versa. Only the center portion is what you see with both eyes. Try not to focus on it too much and you'll soon forget it's there. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet DCS Finland | SF squadron
Blaze Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Got it working fantastically with my S7 and GearVR using Moonlight. Lowest latency of anything I've tried...easily able to fly a demo with it. Is there a way to spoof DCS into thinking an Oculus is connected so it starts in VR menu mode? That's all I'm missing really. Edited December 3, 2016 by Blaze i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. Blaze Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Tried, it does nothing. Roblex Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) I tried using my GearVR & Moonlight with DCS set to 'Stereo' and it does work but the stereo is not comfortable as I need to really focus hard to get both images to align. When I do, the cockpit looks great but then the outside view is not working properly and I have to re-focus to see that which makes the cockpit misaligned again. I don't think I could do it for long before I got eyestrain from forcing my eyes to converge unnaturally. I suspect it is related to the resolution and screen ratio. I normally use 1920x1050 on a single screen and have tried changing resolutions to get 4:3 or 5:4 but it does not cure the problem. If anyone does not have that problem with the GearVR & Moonlight can they tell me what resolutions and aspect ratios they are using or whatever else they think solves it? I don't want to use Intugame because Moonlight runs faster.
