bunraku Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Hi So you've done the training and studied the manual. What's next? Seems I have some choices and am wondering what's best? I still lack experience and want to learn the Hog thoroughly. So the choices seem to be Instant action/quick missions Stock missions User made missions Watching some of the amazing training videos on YouTube and trying to learn from those. Join open multiplayer servers and try and just learn as I go. Or join a squadron and learn as I go. What did everyone else do? Thanks

Thanks Personally, I just started to do some instant action missions or mission generator missions so I can test myself against things that I don't know about (some SAMs or AAA or stuff) and I try to get familiar with how to set up with the aircraft quickly, searching for target, working with JTAC...etc. AMD 5600X -- Gigabyte RTX 3070 Vision -- 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 -- HP Reverb G2 -- Logitech 3D Extreme Pro -- Thrustmaster TWCS BRRRT! Oscar Juliet Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) I'll help train you up if you want me to. I've got some killer training and live missions. Just let me know. STEAM: holyorangejuice https://steamcommunity.com/id/holyorangejuice I've spent the last week and half 6 hours a day training and learning this thing inside out. I'm not new to flight sims but new to the a10c. I'm certain I can explain and train. Give you the tools to practice on your own. Plus I've been dying to fly with someone. I will only give out what you're willing to put in. I've watched hours of videos, hours of training, hours of practice, pages of notes, tons of research and google... So I'm willing to save some people some time if they put some effort into it elsewhere as well. Digital Theme Park: TS3: ts3.digitalthemepark.com This is where I'll hang out when I'm available. My handle is always Oscar Juliet and they have a DCS section. This man has a TON of A10c tutorials and missions he has played. baltic_dragon Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I would say - mix of all, each thing will teach you different skills. Watching YouTube tutorials is something you never stop doing. As for missions, depends what you want. I never played instant missions, because I like immersion and some background, but very good place to start is "Save Badger" mini-campaign. Multiplayer is great and fastest way to learn, so I strongly recommend that too! For more information, please visit my website. NeilWillis Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Also, you might benefit from joining a virtual squadron. Lots of tips and tricks are passed on by experienced fliers, and you can fly with human wingmen etc. But principally, getting in lots of hours flying as many different missions as you can, especially completing the Maple Flag stuff, will just keep adding to your skills.
QuiGon Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Since I don't play the training missions I can't really answer your question what I did after, but what I generally do when learning a new aircraft (including the A-10) is the following: First thing I do is to create a simple mission where I put the aircraft on ramp start, add a flying target (usally a tanker or AWACS) and a group of ground targets. I also set up a small flight route with waypoints on the targets. You can do all this in less then 5 minutes. Then I jump into the cockpit, grab the manual and go through the systems to learn what is what. After I know more or less what each system is I procede with the startup (following the checklist in the manual) followed by the takeoff. Then I will use the targets to learn both A2G and A2A and finish off with landing the bird. I play this mission 1-3 times until I feel confident enough to get some real action. That means I either start the campaign (if there is one) or jump into MP and learn more as I go. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
bunraku Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Thanks for all replies. Really appreciate the advice.
Lenop Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 After 'flying' the A10C for a couple of years according my own knowledge, I have started the Maple Flag Basic Flight Training campaign and find it very good. Purpose is to learn to fly the aircraft and missions a real as possible. Loving it so far.
Snoopy Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 IMO the best way to learn is to join a like minded MP organization. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website

bunraku Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Where does one get or find the maple flag missions?
baltic_dragon Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Check this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62992 Big Kudos to Sabre and his team for putting these together. Never flown the A-10C one, but I will soon get the F-15 :) For more information, please visit my website. Wrench Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I like Gerry Abott, https://www.youtube.com/user/gerryabbott, (among others)for learning the systems. From there I just made increasingly difficult training missions for myself. Started with takeoff at Batumi, Targets lined up at the abandoned airfield between Batumi an Koboleti, grind square GG33. From there I started adding AAA threats, JTAC, etc. Then started hiding enemy Targets/threats in the near by cities where I'd have to look for them. The cool thing about that is you can control how hard the missions are as you progress, and always push yourself just a little further. Carrier Script.
bunraku Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Are the Maple Flag Training Missions just exams or actual training? I just got them and the first 1 is engine start uo etc. I have docs and advice from 10 different users with their engine start up process and of course I have my own way. It seems to be just a test and no training so how do I know I am doing the startup to the Maple Flag standard or am I missing something? Edited January 28, 2016 by bunraku

It seems to be just a test and no training so how do I know I am doing the startup to the Maple Flag standard or am I missing something? As I can remember, Maple Flag Qual mission about startup doesn’t evaluate the sequence of the things you are doing, it will just check at the end if you have done everything after all. But it will fail you, if you didn’t. Probably becasue the sequence itself – apart from some crucial subsequences of switching, like check Fire Warning BEFORE starting APU and/or Eng #1 – can be „customized” a bit, mostly to save some time till being fully „up and running”.

Shez Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Find some people to fly with. While you are doing that start doing some missions and the campain.
