NightMan Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 The way the chat system is implemented is extremely bad. First of all – It should be possible to hide it entirely, including the envelope. The messages are hard to read. The chat window should disappear after a message is sent, and the player should not be forced to close it. It gets in the way. The previous method was much better. The best solution would be to recover the method used in 1.2.16 and include the possibility to deactivate/activate the reception of messages.
Spetz Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I have to agree with you on this one. The old style was much easier to work with.
Meiz Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 You are able to hide the chat and its icon completely. Multiplayer chat icon (envelope) can be hidden/unhidden by LCTRL-LSHIFT-Y combo. I agree that the chat is definitely harder to read now though.
Flogger23m Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 That is an odd, hard to remember combo. The old style worked fairly well.
StandingCow Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Agreed, chat needs to be reworked... there are plenty of multiplayer games out there with good chat implementations to use as examples. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
zaelu Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 You people should not be so afraid of trying something new. The new chat is being worked on and was patched once at least. You can change the key command to a more suitable one. Also... there is a mod (a double mod mind you) that modifies exactly what you ask... the chat font size, the auto hiding and the icon. Here is where you can get it. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=149832 Please enumerate the advantages of the new chat system and also the disadvantages of the old one when you are trying to just throw everything out just because you find some bad parts. This would lead to a more fair conclusion. OxideMako Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 The best solution would be to recover the method used in 1.2.16 and include the possibility to deactivate/activate the reception of messages. So you are one of those guys who doesn't respond to raygun calls online. I did not like the new chat at first, but now I think it only needs minor improvements. (font, colour etc) The ability to choose placement is very handy, and you can hit TAB to cycle between display modes.
Darkwolf Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Well, Don't get surprised if you get friendly fired online. No chat = no communication = lots of options for trouble. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] PC simulator news site. Also....Join the largest DCS community on Facebook :pilotfly:
Shmick Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Definitely with you on the "The chat window should disappear after a message is sent, and the player should not be forced to close it" thang; well, lose focus at least
Slazi Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 It isn't a very nice system, but with some tweaks, it could be.
DeepDrummer Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 The blow by blow of who is joining, leaving, crashing, ejecting and all the other useless garbage should be in a totally separate section or area of the screen with an off button. amazingme Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 The "chat" is more like a console output with "chat" feature.. I agree that the server messages and what players are writing should be separated. I ignore both of them because of this.. terminator363 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Yea, this chat concept sucks. Something like Battlefield 1 would work good. Where the box lights up and appears only when there is a recent message. Happy Bug Hunting!
Northstar98 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 All of this would probably be fixed if DCS had it's own built in radio system that players could use to talk to each other.
