The Gazelle looks great - I found the trees very monotonous. They only have one type of tree in the Caucasus?

when i watch these videos i really wanna know isnt it possbile to bring the helicopter in a hover turn the auto hover on (does gazelle have this feature?) and then shoot ?

it really looks not that fun to do both at the same time (shooting and flying)

The Gazelle does have several autopilot methods. This includes speed, altitude, and an auto-hover mode. The auto-hover mode has some functions in it as well. When you activate the auto-hover it hovers and maintains the collective. You can actually turn off the collective part which I find fun sometimes because I can drop down to hide, then pop up to shoot. There is also a slave mode, which will aim the nose on the target.

So yeah...You can activate the auto-hover, switch to commander, and have fun shooting.

Is it even allowed or recommended to fire the HOT while in forward flight? I would be worried that I would drag the guidance wire behind me and that it would eventually snap when it gets entangled somewhere on the ground in the vegetation.

edit:

btw: is the wire as such modelled? I.e. _can_ it even snap in DCS?

The wire is modeled. It is possible for it to get cut too. Easiest way to do this is to fire a HOT3, and the select another HOT3, this will cut the wire to the first one and guide the second HOT3 to the target.

As far as shooting on the run, I"ll have to look into it. Most shooting methods requires hiding behind something, pooping up and shooting. But give that you meet the shoot requirements - it should be possible to shoot while moving forward.

May i ask why the TV image is so shaky when firing the HOT?. Its not stabilizated when the cross is locked over the target? I know that the missiles must be guided all the way down to the target but i thought the targeting ststem had some kind of stabilization.

It shakes a lot in the videos.

Because I was failing to keep the helicopter aligned with the designation location and the sensor was having trouble maintaining maintaining stabilization.

Hi Gents,

The flickering is due to high zoom level

The only way to stop it is to zoom back, moving, and zoom in again

The camera stabilization code is already planned to be improved, but no promise about the flickering due to the zoom level

I think, what he means is, when the cross hair is ground sabilized and then the helo starts to yaw left or right, the camera seems to try to keep the cross hair at the original spot ... but fails somehow.

Example: the helo yaws to the left, the cross hair moves to the left for a fraction of a second and then suddenls jumps back right, back at the original spot. And it keeps doing that as long as the helo changes it's attitude.

I would probably not expect a 100% accurate and 100% dead center stabilisation all the time the helo moves, but this jumping/flickering is somewhat irritating.

Maybe some dampening is missing / still WIP?

Thanks Pat.

The camera stabilization is one importan thing in any missile helicopter capable. Lets hope your team could improve it. Maybe ED could help you too.

Thales Optronic Systems, in Guyancourt, France, provide the HOT / Viviane day / night sight. The roof-mounted Viviane includes day sight, infrared camera, laser rangefinder and CCD localiser. The stabilised sight and the slaving of the missile launcher in elevation permit firing from hover or in translation at speeds up to 150km/h and evasive manoeuvres at rates up to 6° a second after missile launch. Range of the missile when helicopter-launched is 4,300m.

*unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?

I noticed this too. I think it was a live stream issue. I find that sometimes live shows tend to shudder due to bandwidth issues.

It's only me that see a heavy stuttering in some part of the video?

You can put the visor on him. Sometimes for fun I put the visor and the night vision goggles on him to see if he complains. He just sits there and takes it. :megalol:

This. Never blinks and stares at things way too long. Doesn't look natural at all. A pilot's head and eyes are constantly moving, especially if you're a copilot. One of primary your duties is to have your eyes outside and scanning for traffic and threats, not gazing at the pilot longingly and fixating on the instrument panel.

Indeed, a bit .. unnerving.

Maybe it is too early to tell, but I had the impression that he stares more to the right than to the left. Like 3 times out of 4 when wags looked at him, he was just staring back.

Perhaps a bug? Perhaps he is supposed to look more to the left, outside, than to the right .... and that is just an animation axis problem (180 deg. off)?

Wouldn't you if you were in the Gazelle with Wags! After some of those crashes he pulled off, getting himself shot down etc.

Poor Sven. It's obvious he's in shock at the fact that Wags made it through flight school.
