It's there - it's like looking at the world with dirty glasses. Hit F2, zoom all the way out and look at the water. You'll see it. It moves with your view...dirty glasses. It's impossible to screenshot - can't do it with phone. Screen is black, but when you look yourself, you'll see it.

@Derek,

Thanks much for taking the time to look for the "faceplate" image. It's good to know that it isn't only my system.

@SkateZilla

It seems like an alpha texture (semi-transparent) that got loaded in after the 3D rendering finishes - just a guess - it's the size of the full screen. I actually see it quite easily with a late dusk (twilight) mission time which is a beautiful time to fly in downtown Las Vegas with a heli. If I move outside the cockpit so as to look at aircraft or fixed objects - I notice it. Anyway, enough said. On to enjoy the wonderful VR DCSWorld! I think flying in formation is really a lot of fun in VR - a group of helis look so real.

Thanks

Dave

Only the dot with V2...I'm very much hopeful the mouse pointer will return.

@Dave - no worries...I was thinking the same thing that it's some alpha texture that's not supposed to be there.

Dang...mine is *way* lower and it's not shipping until end of May beg of June. But my Vive gets here tomorrow even though I ordered it *long* after the launch.

Ah...saw the Kickstarter note. That makes perfect sense. Kickstarter backers should get it first.

Though I am quite happy, I can't say we should get them early. Considering that I already have the the DK1, that I pledged for, and to get this for free, I would not have complained if I did not get it for quite a while.

That being said, I just got finished testing (not DCS, that machine is not available) the basics and OMFG :cry:, it is amazing (not perfect, but dayum)!!

Keep in mind that I haven't used VR since shortly after I received my DK1, years ago.

Needless to say, the auxiliary machine is getting DCS installed on it right now. I will fly at a little desk in my den until I get my pit back together. I can't wait, so I am liable to be up late tonight! :joystick::D

I'll need a new mobo, processor etc before I get my Rift. Are there any recommendations? I understand that the i5 4590 is the minimum recommended, but is there any mileage in going higher up the spec ladder? Cost is an issue.

I was holding off until I got mine to give you a comparison. My specs are below and I get an 11 on the steam VR, I've only seen a 12 being higher but not sure how high it goes. My weakest link will end up being my CPU but I'm still looking into how the hell OC works.

I'd always try to shoot higher than recommended specs, but I've basically given up on trying to keep up, hardware and software seem to get better weekly and games seem to be optimized quicker too.

Mine is a Kickstarter backer order. I am suspecting that they are in a separate queue since the order numbers are in a whole different range.

Well you could have mentioned that first before you spun everyone up thinking why someone with an order number so far higher than theirs was shipped first :music_whistling:

The 6700 has slightly better single core performance than the 5930. The 5820 is more economical than the 5930 and is comparable to it in most cases where PCI bandwidth isn't a real issue (with multiple SLI configurations, IIRC).

A friend and I compared my PC against his 6700/980ti PC, and his edged out mine in single core performance. They were very similar in performance otherwise.

I'd like to build a 6600k/980ti system to see how that would compare. The 6600 CPU is ~350 less than the 5930.

I see ZERO difference from my 2600K my 4790K or my 6700K systems all at 4.6GHz running DCS as long as same video card is used. FSX is the only thing that sees any difference between these 3 systems. Intel, like Apple has made little to no innovation or advancement in the past 7 years beyond smaller, cooler, more efficient.

hey mr derek. i was hoping to build a computer with the 6700K and pascal titan.

but because titan is not coming out until 2017, and i know i will purchase at titan (or Ti), i figure i wait until next year to build a completely new PC.

for the meantime my CV1 is coming, so in this meantime, i was going to get a 1080GTX and a water cooler to push the i7-2600K that i have to overclock for a descent DCS experience..

would like to hear your opinion on this!

Not sure which recent update brought it back but the full terrain/mountain shadows are back. It looks great at early sunrise or pre sunset. Before it was just sun lighting intensity based upon angle to the sun. Looks great with VR.

Excellent, thanks for the advice guys. I think it'll be a 6700.

Order placed for the Rift today, and the delivery date just has TBA in it. I hope that means tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath :music_whistling:

Well August is the current delivery month - but then orders have been coming to the UK a month ahead of estimated date, so who knows.

Oculus, unfortunately, don't tell us much, which is a shame as I'm sure many of the current detractors would be a little more pacified if they did.

Mine's due end of July - but I'm hoping it will be here by the end of June.

Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS;

Pimax Crystal Light

I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings

With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

It's impossible to speculate about what's coming from nvidia or what type of performance gains will be there. The 980ti is king of the hill right now. Staying a year or two behind what's current is a good way to save some money, too.

I don't water cool and I don't upgrade a PC with new parts. I build a new one every two or so years and warehouse the previous one or repurpose the old one into a new role not requiring gaming duties.

passmark.com is your friend. See all of the benchmarks.

The 6700k is really the best choice. The 5930/5960 really isn't utilized to its full capacity with DCS and other games. I'd have gotten one myself but I had a brand new Asus X99mb and used it.

Believe it or not a guy can get a hella good 6600 system for 800 and then add another 650 for the video card. It's very realistic for the home builder to build it for 1500 USD and totally blow away any pre built, "Oculus Ready" system for the same money. And it's sooo much easier nowadays...25 years ago it was misery.

well i know im going to get a whole new computer for the pascal Titan or Ti.

even if i get a watercooler for the 2600K, i can always use it for the CPU ill get early 2017.

i just dont like the fact that im getting a pascal GTX in june knowing ill get the HBM2 version.

but i can't wait till 2017 for whole new system!!

i could be wrong and end up with the 6700K cheaper come 2017... or i could be lucky to catch the kaby lake refresh, the 7700K (if it has high clock speed of course)

thanks for reply. i hope to fly with you in june, mister :)

The 6700 chips are bound to fall in price over time, so waiting isn't a bad strategy. I was thinking it might be worth waiting until my Oculus delivery date is confirmed before I buy.

I may be using the old board etc to set up a dedicated server machine, who knows?

I'm running v1.5.3.52478, but I don't think I have v1.5 beta installed; is there a way to check? The version I am running did not autoupdate this morning, so I am presuming this is the non-beta installation.

CV1 working fine in both Worlds for me.

Flew multiplayer with min. 8 players in carrier ops and strike mission over Vegas. Smooth as silk.

JAR,

How is it flying with the CV1 around the carrier environment? Are you able to make out the "ball" at 3/4 of a mile with the CV1 resolution (is it clear and are trends noticeable)? Is it easier to fly the CASE I approach pattern and how is the 3D aspect of the carrier approach? Have you tried night passes CASE III?

Thanks for any insights into using the CV1 around the carrier (waiting for shipment May 29th).
