Just edit them out entirely with the Labels.lua in the Config\View directory.I think you could start with them off by setting things like AirOn = false

Hi guys! Just got the CV1 yesterday.

Im having what seems to be a problem with the lenses.

If I look straight trough them it's like a big smudge, but when i look trough them at the most upper part of the lense/or sometimes really low its really clear and sharp, like looking at a normal monitor (not able to wear the rift at this position). Seems like it has degraded since yesterday, not even possible for me to read the text in F-5 (Load/Lock - No Film) witch is located under the HUD, and even a fairly big text.

Tried Running pixel density at 1.5 and 2.0, even in the oculus debugger..

I know about godrays etc, but this looks just like smudge.

i7 4790k, Gtx 980, SSD. Settings both textures to High, rest to low or off.

I assume you know the headset tilts up and down and there is an IPD slider under the right side to adjust the sweet spot. The Oculus setup has an IPD setup routine, I also assume you have tried to clean them with the supplied lens cloth. If so, it may require opening a ticket with Oculus.

Disregard my last post. There is indeed a problem with the last patch to DCS 2 as my Huey controls are half smudged. Mi8 has same issue. Controls I can read by leaning in in 1.5 don't improve in version 2. DCS 1.5 is OK

Hello all. I had the DK2 and finally took the plunge on a CV1. I'm about to jump into setting this all up again after being away from DCS for sometime. I have three quick questions. One, is there any guide or quick set-up sticky somewhere? Two, how do I output the rift or "mirror" it to my monitor for others outside the rift to see what's going on? And finally three, I think I used 70% isopropyl alcohol diluted 4:1 on my DK2 but was going to try 12:1 on my CV1 (closer to lens wipe strength? I believe)=(2.5ml 70% isopropyl alcohol with 30ml of distilled water or 1/2 TEAspoon to 2 TABLEspoons). Yes I saw the no fluid cleaning warning stickers. To make everyone cringe a little more, I used bounty paper towels. Damp, not over saturated very gently and had zero scratches on my DK2 I dried them with an also slight damp paper towel. I realize we can't remove these lenses but my facial grease is strong with the force. I don't think the microfiber will cut it. It may be a $630 mistake but we will all see if it comes down to that or not when the time comes. Thanks for any advise like don't use isopropyl alcohol on acrylic.

I just posted about this in the Gazelle forum. Pretty bad in 2 - pretty much illegible, but fine in 1.5

Move headset down your face more than you'd think

I find the sweet spot is in the upper half of the optics

It is not him, It is todays DCS 2 patch. I have the same problem after the download.

Install oculus Home. Run the setup. Your monitor will show the game while in the Rift (you may need to hit alt+enter for monitor to go full screen. Don't use alchohol you will damage the plastic lenses. Don't use paper towel you will scratch the lenses. Oculus has cleaning instructions. Enable allow unknown sources in Oculus Home settings/general. Your done

I found it interesting that HTC's instructions for cleaning the Vive include using liquid/alcohol based cleaning fluids used for glasses/TVs, yet Oculus' instructions are VERY clear about using absolutely NO liquids, and only microfiber cloths. I'm sure I've read that the lenses for both are made out of much the same materials, so what's the deal here? I've erred on the side of caution with both, however would like to know why there is such a difference in the manuals of both units regarding lens cleaning.

@dogbite: Alt+enter? Excellent, thanks. I'll try holding off on the diluted alcohol, that's what's in the wipes the oculus team uses -unoffically anyway. (in a super low concentration)

From the MSDS:

Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether: 1-10 Weight-%*

*Weight-% is listed as a range, the specific chemical identity and/or percentage

of composition has been withheld as a trade secret.

I read the link. If you are referring to the Oculus moderators as the unofficial team response, well, it seems 2 of them had already scratched their lenses and were as confused as many about cleaning. Oculus doesn't recommend using any liquid or chemical cleaners on the lenses

https://support.oculus.com/help/oculus/483957785140290/

There may well be good poly-carb friendly cleaners that one can get away with but if they contain any alcohol, I personally would avoid them. I think their concern with liquid cleaners goes to concern for the electronics, as well.

Oculus uses a custom combination of regular and Fresnel lenses, that may have been made from a completely different material than the Vive Fresnel lenses, so using the same technic for cleaning, could be a mistake.

If the developer of a product tells you that you should not use certain products on their devise, why do you think you should experiment with using them?

I'd chalk it up to overly cautious advice. Or super-Secret-double-probation formula for the lens and you can't use cleaning solution. Maybe they coated it with a material they don't want you to rub off.

Whatever the case, I'm good with dry microfiber every now and again.

This.

No matter the material of the lenses, they could also have chemical coatings as well which could be the cause of the 'no liquid cleaner' recommendations.

Either way, going against the manufacturers advice, on a $600 piece of equipment seems like a poor choice and a good way to void any warranty as well.

I just installed the 2.03 update, and the VR tab has the pixel density slider, but where are the bindings to use a joystick key for a mouse click, the bino view, etc? Also do kneeboards work in VR now?

hello fellow simmers,

I wanted to give my feedback about Rift vs Vive to those who are about to purchase one.

I am writing from work and I was really keen to give you my opinion about both VR headset. I will keep it very short:

First I am not a fan boy of any. In fact if I sit on the computer to play I fly only DCS, before DCS I was never interested in VR and I am a late adopter.

I bought a Vive back in June, in germany it costs around 950€, that's more than 1100$. I didn't care about space usage but I still went for it as I don't want to wait to be delivered when I order. I was slightly disappointed by the DCS experience. I have a very good setup: i7 6700K, GTX 1080, 32 Gb RAM. I had without VR very solid 120 FPS and even more. With the Vive I was getting at best 45 FPS at high altitude only. But that wasn't the worst, I was very disappointed by the resolution. I simply couldnt read the gauges. I assumed that it was simply the VR technology as of today so I decided to live with it. What made me lose it, was the weight of the headset. I simply couldnt play as long as I used to with TrackIR. I quickly got uncomfortable with the weight and of the thick cable coming out of it, add to it audio headset.

Once the Oculus became available and because I ONLY play sitting I decided to sell my Vive with a loss at 750€ and bought the Oculus for roughly the same price.

Jumping from one to the other was in DCS was like day and night for me. The headset is a lot more comfortable after 30 min flying, I was getting more than 60 FPS most of the time, in cities 45! And most importantly I could read all the gauges!

I believe that the lenses and software support in DCS are better in the Rift, but this doesnt matter to me. I just care about the user experience and the Rift I have a true VR experience in DCS. I wont fly without it anymore, and I dont regret a second exchanging the Vive for the Rift.

These are my 2 cents, I hope it will help any potential buyer who would mainly use the headset in DCS.

have a nice day.

PS: I posted the same in the Vive thread.

Last night I flew an op in the Su-25, mostly just to see if my new VAC voice command profile was working okay. It was - and the experience was just so fantastic, I was reluctant to take the headset off and finish flying - the reason I did so was, as always, the heat.

We're going through an extended warm and sticky (humid) spell in the UK, and wearing the Rift is often made very uncomfortable purely due to the extra heat it puts on my head.

Such a shame, because watching those rockets fly from their life-like pods under the wings, and indeed the whole targeting and blowing-up-stuff experience was jaw-dropping.
