Personally I have a bit of a problem swallowing the idea of a map that in real life is for testing and training. Meaning, if I am going to fly sims of combat aircraft it seems much more fun on a map that in real life was a war zone, flying missions that may have been real, using the aircraft that was actually used.

To me its all about immersion and I guess Nevada would be a place I go to gamble not fight it out in planes. But not criticizing, just opining as a consumer.

I would snatch up an updated and improved version of the Georgian theater in a heartbeat for the same price as the Nevada 2.0, maybe ED will get to that?

Anyway just fishing for opinions.....

It was started by a 3rd party that left it hanging, ED took up the ball and released it as a addition to the A-10C. ED have also stated it is a learning map for them to develop and test their new tools. It is of course interesting for A-10C training missions.

You are probably in the majority, however being a flight sim fan (I'm not a gamer) I enjoy flying the Nevada map very much. I've always enjoyed training just as much as flying a combat mission. To me, a lot of the immersion comes from my often pitiful attempts at proper comms, airbase procedures, etc. I've flown a number of missions created on the NTTR map simulating a Mid East environment and enjoyed it very much. If you're a gamer then the action is where its at for you. As a flight sim enthusiast, flying NTTR is very enjoyable I recommend it highly for other flight simmers. The SOH map is going to look very much like NTTR, so I would get used to desert terrain.....not exciting.

We use the Nevada map for different types of training, such as IFR flying*, navigation inside an area (FAOR) and BFM with the M-2000C. It's a welcome change in terrain after years of flying in the caucasus region.

You can simulate exercises like the Red Flag in high detail, if you collect some data from the web, like approaches in the target areas, tanker tracks and so on.

*There are no or less IFR charts for the caucasus airbases/ airports. With Nellis Airforce Base, we can practise some real good IFR departues with real charts and TACAN appraoches, as well.

The SOH map is going to look very much like NTTR, c.....not exciting.

But with a real background of a conflict. ;)

kind regards,

Red Flag will definitely be better with more airports. I personally would like ED to focus more on airport and navigation features than perfect cities. But of course the chopper pilots like the highly detailed city as well but I don't think they fly a lot there. I guess it is like ED says, it was learning path for the designers building the city, and it is done in a great detail. Red Flag and other missions will be better now with Tonopha AFB and some of the smaller airfields. Personally I would like a larger map with more airports stretching to the west with the shoreline of the North Pacific so we could have a carrier there.

Nevada is a brilliantly realised map inside of EDGE. From the media prior to launch I was impressed, but wait until you're soaring over it in game, the level of detail is worth the price of admission alone. It really serves to show how far flight sims have come.

I guess it also comes down to using your imagination with combat scenarios; it's essentially a desert combat map with valleys and ridgelines, and is an awful lot fun flying down low. It's big enough to create a range of scenarios, and flying out of Groom Lake, when testing a new module, is a buzz!

I'd pick it up with one of the Red Flag campaigns, you'll quickly forget that it's not a real warzone.

Perfect for training, as the title NTTR implies.

Also, I cannot wait for upgraded ATC options to make it (hopefully) even better for those of us that prefer realistic procedures.

I fly almost only Nevada and Gazelle in DCS (collidable trees! ;)). You are right level of detail is nice.

But a big letdown for me is in many areas (where I like do create some combat missions for our helicopters etc) level of detail is far from good.

I was also hoping for a new FLIR simulation with the new DCS renderer...

So I would say it is not wrong to buy nevada in a sale. (at least in its current state)

I agree 100% with your feelings here. The Nevada map itself is beautifully done, but I'm not really a fan of simulating a simulation. People that talk about "training" in a PC flight simulation for the "real thing"... in a PC flight simulation... just sound silly. I much prefer a real world scenario since I'm sitting in a home-built cockpit and not a real fighter. I've found the F-15 campaign somewhat boring.... it's realistic, but a bit boring at times because it's, well, simming a sim. Again, though, the map itself is GORGEOUS and I enjoy flying around in it... the combat part is just a little bit lacking to me. The air to air stuff never feels authentic unless there's a meaningful situation unfolding on the ground.

Lighting looks lovely 1st impressions

The ground buildings houses etc really let things down but I guess its wip

Is there a way of getting the 1.5 map into DCS version 2. ??

Also is there a possible way to obtain the 1944 map?

Thanks what is Strait of Hormuz?

Is this available ?

Not yet. Only the Black Sea map and Nevada are available so far.

I have to say I was very excited about the NTTR map when it was released; for the first time in a decade, the DCS planes will finally leave the Georgian theater. But then, once the wonder of the first flight is gone, I am struggling a bit to find inspiration for missions. The most realistic ones I could come up with were some terrorist attacks on Las Vegas airport requiring chopper support. But beside some bad guys with Manpads on the roofs, it's kinda hard to imagine someone will sneak up through the US border with Strela or a Shilka, not to mention a T72. Or maybe some bad guys stealing equipment from a nearby airbase?

I can't help thinking about this sim that I use to play in the 90's where Mexican army was attacking California. I think it was a F23 sim. Can't remember the name.

The point of Nevada (in my opinion) is to simulate a Red Flag / Green Flag / Weapons School scenarios. I would love to see some Multiplayer scenarios built up like the Red Flag campaign missions, with its rules, restricted airspace, ROE, etc...

The whole attack on Vegas thing is one way to play, but I'd prefer to simulate the simulation. :-)

I fly the Nevada map all the time, equally I'd say with the Caucases map. It is so nice to have something so different and visually stunning. I practice learning the taxing to and from runways, NDB navigation etc. It is a refreshing change of pace from the Caucuses map when needed.

Since I live in, and fly out of, Las Vegas, I enjoy NTTR very much. Is it perfect in it's representation? No. But what ED has given us is of excellent quality with enough mission building opportunities to keep a new simmer like me very busy. I could start navigating just using familiar landmarks right away. I am never lost. I say thanks to ED and keep up the good work.

It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D

And let's not forget the fun of high-speed runs down the Black Canyon, pulling up over the edge of dam, and skimming over Lake Mead as fast as you can push your plane :)

Awesome map for humans vs AI in single or multi. Fantastic if you want to emulate africa, or middle east, afghanistan, etc,

For CAS missions and interdiction is very good. Problem is H vs H with figthers... We would need an airport in one of the north corners of the map.
