Just purchased and downloaded a10c and DCS World 2, says I need terrain. Looked in forum and found that I need to use 1.5 if I want to not buy anything more. (I guess) Got DCS World (1.5) running starts training out, but stalls after first screen and voice completes. Always locks up.

Does this mean I have to buy something else and install or what do you suggest? Finally got TM Warthog HOTAS and now really want to get into training.

Good PC system, CH pro pedals. ready to go. Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated.

Thanks, and kind regards

You chose the hardest module to start with :)

Do all the training missions stall on you or just the one?

At least the first two. I'll go back and try the others.

Hello GrizzW, and welcome to DCS. There are a couple problems currently with the beta and the regular 1.5 version of DCS World on first trying to install it. Here's a link from ED on what the problems could be and how to fix them. It's turned out that updating C++ usually fixes the freeze problem. Also, make sure that your video card drivers are up to date and your card supports DX11 and DX12. It's also helpful to post your system specifications so we know what you have and can look up some of the prior problems. If you need any additional help, feel free to PM me. If you ever need help with the A-10C you're welcome to hop on our coms. We do training on Wednesday evenings and fly missions on our server on Saturdays. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/556/

GrizzW, I am also spanking new and as confused as can be. However, like some other has said, 1.5.x and start with the free SU-27T is likely a better course to get going. google "DCS SU-27T tutorial" you should find a few youtube video series also.

^ Ehm, I'll point out It's Su-25T, so that he doesn't google around for something that doesn't exist :D.

The A-10C is not that hard. She is nice and easy to fly, and the systems can be learned one after another. Helis have a much steeper learning curve, and in opposition to the SU-25T you can click the cockpit controls instead of learning tons of keyboard shortcuts..

stalls = freeze? If so, then maybe the game just pauses itself, so you have all the time you need to find the correct buttons. I don't know if there is such an automatic pause in the training missions, since I've never tried them, but if there is, then you should be able to continue by pressing the pause/break key on your keyboard.

DCS world 2.0 is currently avalaible only if you purchase the terrain NTTR (Nevada bla bla bla). It is not required for the A10.

This means in the 1.5 you are having for free the Caucasus map.

One day they will merge it all in 2.x

The pauses in tutorial (if it does not freeze the whole game for you) are caused by scripts which are waiting for an input from you. The training voice will always tell you what is needed from you to proceed.

So the question is, is the stall you are describing just a pause in a game or does the game crash on you?

Do, or do not, there is no try.

Those system specs are more than good enough. I guess I should have asked if you're actually getting a screen freeze like when loading and nothing works at all. Like QuiGon stated, the tutorials are designed to pause while waiting for you to continue by using the space bar. However, if you're actually getting a hard lockup that's more likely a driver issue or a C++ issue. Can you provide more information on what's happening?

@Striker, copying the DLL'sto the bin folder seems to have worked. Training mission 1, works now all the way through. able to pause and restart the video using "Pause" key works just fine. It appears that I may be on my way. "I'll be back"

Now feel I have something to work with.

Thanks to all.

Good deal, I'm glad that worked. If you would like any help in learning to work the A-10C systems, please don't hesitate to ask like I stated before. We're more of a club for sim pilots and you're welcome to come on our coms any time and we can go over the systems. We do extensive training in the A-10C and know them pretty well. Just send me a PM and I'll get you set up with the Teamspeak info.

Do all the training missions stall on you or just the one?

The A-10 is an easy aircraft to fly and very forgiving. Once you get the "game issues" resolved, gone on YouTube and search for DCS:A-10C training videos.

Systems wise the A-10 is complicated and accurate, but if you start simple and work forward you'll be fine. Remember, we've all been where you are. The only difference between you and I is NOW it takes ME longer to do something stupid and crash...

I'll second this. The A-10C has lots of switches and systems and it took me quite a while to get to the point where I felt pretty comfortable using the main ones. Flying is pretty easy, using the various weapons systems...not so much. Once you get it though it is insanely rewarding. I didn't play the module non stop, I took a lot of breaks from it, but after about 2 years I finally felt pretty good. Now I need to get back in and work more on running the CDU!

Good luck and happy flying!

Yes, you can learn a lot here by just reading forums, doing searches and asking questions. This is the only sim I play currently. Been here 5 years. I mess around a little bit with other sim aircraft offline but the majority of my time is here.

Took me about a year to get fairly comfortable with the Ka-50. I still learn new stuff flying her. I use user 104th's Crunch's CH gear profile for the Ka-50.

For CH gear, user Konkussion let me use his A-10C profile for the A-10C, I still use it. Have not flown the Warthog in quite awhile. Me, too, that was my 1st module back when it was sold as a boxed set. Well, the boxed set of LockOn Platinum was first, think it was then FC2.

GrizzW, where are you from?

I always recommend Bunyap Sims's "On the range" series of videos as a great way to learn the A-10C, once you've got the hang of getting it in the air and back down again.

For cold-starting, I think using Lobo's checklist is good (it's not as super-detailed as the 476th one, but does what it's supposed to). I like the checklist approach over the interactive tutorial because you have to find the switches yourself (of course it helps to do the interactive tutorial a few times first to know roughly where the switches are).

Once you have the switches down, you might want to make a flow of how to start the aircraft. I made one that goes clockwise left to right a couple of times, so I go a bit less back and forth than what the checklists tend to do.

Anyways, fire off questions here if you're in need of help!

Do have quick question: Been looking into UltraMFCD. Are they still in business? Downloaded it, but must have installed in the wrong place. Anyway, still can't get it to work. Freezes DCS on mission screen. Any thoughts?

Ah, of course! Didn't think of it in terms of an ICAO code... ;) In that case I'm located near ENGM, and time-difference means flying with you to help out would not be an impossibility, but difficult. :(

What do you need it for? If it's only to export the MFCDs, RWR and such on a secondary display, you can simply use the integrated DCS functions.

@Gliptal: Please remember that I am brand new to DCS and the A-10. I have lots of flight sim experience so I don't feel completely lost, but with this system and plane I am just starting out. If you would be kind enough to point me to the proper instruction/documents that you just pointed out, or possibly explain a little more in detail, I would try to get it figured out.

Thanks for your post and appreciate any help you might send my way.

Kind regards,
