Viperrm64 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Hi all, Just this weekend i bought myself a NVidia GTX 1070 card which replaced my ageing SLI set up of two GTX 770 2GB cards and the difference is amazing!!!! With my old SLI setup i only got around 30-40fps in DCS World 2.0 in 2560 x 1440 on my Asus 4K monitor and it would be even worse when i flew over Vegas dropping into the 25fps region. Now with the stunning GTX 1070 i get a solid 60FPS in full 4K and it only drops very slightly to around 45-55FPS when i fly over Vegas, i have MSAA set at 4x and Anistropic set to 16x wth everything else at max settings. I also have noticed a distinct lack of the terrible micro-stuttering that i used to get in DCS 2.0 with this new card in fact it's almost completely vanished i guess becuase there's no more SLI which DCS 2.0 does not support. DCS 1.5 runs at a staggeringly solid 60fps in 4K with no drop anywhere at all even over the fullest forest or the most dense city, indeed in DCS 1.5 everything is maxed out even running MSAA 8X and still getting a solid 60FPS. Now i'm not paid by NVidia or anything and i am sure AMD's new cards will be just as good as the 10 series cards but this was £425.00 very well spent, and at last i can fly my DCS planes in DCS 2.0 the way it's meant to be.
grammaton_feather Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I'm running 1070 with HTC Vive. 1070 is overclocked to 2033mhz and at least 250mhz vram but can go higher there. It looks like I'm able to use super-sampling at 2.5 via the steamvr switch without any performance issues. 2 x AA, 16 x AF. Medium shadows.

some1 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 SLI doesn't give much (if any) performance improvement in DCS, so you're practically comparing single 770 GTX performance with 1070. Yep, it's better :) Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
David OC Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 GTX 1070 works great, even better when DCS is more optimized I hope. I'm able to really crank up the eye candy and keep good frames. David OC Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 So you would choose the 1070 instead of the 1080? Cost vs Performance at the moment GTX 1070 I think is a way better deal. Others I know are waiting for 980s to drop then sli two together. This may be better later? when DCS fully utilizes the dual cards and good for many other sims, games too. Still need to upgrade to an ssd and later a better cdu and motherboard. Fairly balanced at the moment. Im happy with the gtx 1070 perhaps sli two 1070s down the track? i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. Aginor Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I'd even go so far to say that a x80 from Nvidia was never really worth it compared to the x70 Yes, it was always a bit faster, but for THAT much more money? In most games you wouldn't even notice a difference without looking at the numbers. Fine if you can afford it, but not really necessary. I always sticked to the x70 DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

I always sticked to the x70 I've been using a 780 since week 1 of it's release, if I'd have bought a 770, I'd be using a 980Ti right now, and not be looking at 1070 or 1080.... the 1080 will last you a bit longer than the 1070, and possibly convince you to skip a whole generation, like I did. it really depends on how much faster the next card is, or what you consider the minimum amount of performance gain for a card to be worth upgrading to... for me, the 1080, being just over twice as fast as my 780, makes it worth upgrading to, while the 980ti and 1070, being roughly 80-90% faster (depends on the card) isn't quite worth it... I fall on the side of... if I'm not at least doubling my performance, it's not worth spending any money... with GPUs anyway.... I think the other side is more like... 20% performance isn't worth an extra 200$... but that 200$ extra might stop you from buying another 1000$ videocard... like for me, it stopped me from buying the 980ti... Backy 51 Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Loving the 1070 in DCS 2.0! Solid 60 FPS with everything turned on in the NTTR. 35-40 over the Vegas Strip. 1 I don't need no stinkin' GPS! (except for PGMs :D) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Gigidang Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 GTX 1060 released As the 1060 is official by now i am considering to get one of these, best price to value ratio and with decent OC possibility. Approx 180-190 % of the GTX 770 Power (40-50 % below 1070) and with 20% overclocking you pass that 200 % of the 770. And that for little over 300 EUR. Or a 1070 for 490 EUR and get around 260 % Performance? Hm... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

If the 1070 maxes the CPU I see no need at all to spend the extra money to get the 1080. I'd be REALLY grateful to answers to this (GPU / CPU limited at 4K). I think MSI Afterburner (or similar tools) will give you the answer, it shows GPU load) PS2: I've got a I5-2500K CPU running at 4.2 GHz watercooled
