So we have an aim-9P-5 that has the same CCM capabilities as a competitor to the AIM-4 that was designed around 15 years earlier...Seems about right

I am experiencing this as well with an X-52Pro, so I don't think it's due to CH scripting. Both with and without using the SST software I have this issue. It would be nice if the uncage button could be set as a toggle (not as realistic, but neither is not being able to launch b/c I'm holding down another button).

 

I ended resolving this. Normally I avoid straight out DX button assignment and use CH scripting. Anyway for this I just assigned it inside DCS as a DX button and now all is good.

yea i hope this will be the first priority fix. narrow FOV makes it the P5 feel like trying to get launch with a gar8.

I should report I resolved it as well. Had to set the Uncage in SST, and set weapons release in DCS. Very strange but it seems to have worked well enough.

Does anybody else get a locking tone when the sky is empty now and then? I set up a training mission with just one enemy prop plane and my F-5. I have flown it a few times and can get the locking tone when the enemy plane is behind me or well out of range.

Did a few tests with the P/P-5, all the IR Atoll variants on you can hang on the Mig-21 and r-60/r-60m.

The P/P-5 perform worse than all Atolls and the R 60 and have a significantly shorter range than the Atolls and R60s.

The P and P-5 lose speed way faster after engine burnout than the Atolls to such a degree that they have trouble even catching up to a Mig-21 flying at a decent speed (700 kph for most tests). (while the atolls still can without problem)

 

So, i would say there are a few Fm issues with the missile, but its not just on the F-5 of course, but made worse by the low missile count and more difficult lockon.

ATM i would say the P and P-5s performance is about comparable to the GAR-8. Everything else is much better.

Yea is the same problem the Mirage 2000 had with its missiles on release (ED made Magic II and Super 530)

The modeling was old so they preformed like sheit and Razbam had to make their own missiles.

 

I hope Belstimtek does the same as quickly as possible (or ED makes a change ASAP)

 

Since this pretty much makes the F-5E a guns only fighter since the missiles are worthless.

 

Im annoyed that this is something nobody had realised and fixed before the release =P.

(since these missiles are not limited to the F-5E but were already in the game)

For some reason, I get a much better hit rate against even Excellent AI (about 80-90%) than against human opponents (0%.)

 

Is this some AI/local voodoo, or are human opponents more likely to pull more G?

I've gotten a few sneak up kills, but otherwise you're better off leaving the missiles at home when fighting humans. I've only gotten a single kill with any of them and it was a B model at that. :doh:

No I'm holding the uncage switch, it just doesnt lock (or at least change tone) from anything but the rear aspect.

 

You need to hear the tone change before pressing the uncage button.

 

When you hear the sidewinder tone change from the search buzz to the high pitch whine/tracking tone, that is when you press and hold the uncage button. The missile seeker will now continue to track the target through a wider area and you will continue to hear the high pitch tracking tone.

 

I currently have a very small acquisition area, located above the pipper, where the target must be before I can get the missile tone to change from search to tracking. (I don't know how accurate this is, or if it is a bug.) However, once the tone changes, if I immediately press and hold the uncage button, the missile will continue to track the target even if it moves back outside the original tiny acquisition area.

I got killed by a AIM-9P5 in MP not long ago. Of course at the time I was in a full afterburner 30 degree climb, not maneuvering at all, and was unaware of the presence of an F-5 behind me (in other words, I was the easiest possible target).

And thats pretty much the only time you can get a kill with the Aim-9P5 atm.

 

The guns are more effective xD.

 

I really hope they fix it as soon as possible for the sake of the F-5E.

 

And especially since nobody can possibly argue that this is how the Aim-9P5 (Or the Aim-9P) should actually perform since they are very obviously performing alot worse then they should.

(In all areas from Range to turning performance to seeker performance/sensitivity to flares etc)

 

Atm i mainly use the Aim-9P5 as a Signal flare ^^

when it feels like firing atleast which is not a sure thing to start with.

I read a hypothesis that, online, the smallest bit of lag can cause the seeker to lose lock. This may explain better results when offline.

So far in a few hours flying Friday evening I got two gun kills and one GAR-8 kills against a couple of random Mig-21 that came into the server I set up to test out the F5 on for the squad. Could not get the tone long enough with the P5 to launch.

 

Last night flew on ACG and got 3 gun kills while trying to get a missile lock long enough to uncage the seaker head. I did notice that I got the lock tone randomly when the Mig-21 was not in front of me not was I pointed in the direction of the Sun, in fact at least once it was behind me.

 

Will try again this evening but using the GAR-8 again.

Post this in other thread, was flying like 2 minutes behind MIG-21 on ACG server no look tone in the DM close combat modus with Radar lock and in Range and seeker uncaged but no tone was realy hard to get ever a tone.

Did only 1 Missile kill on a MIG-21, after I sitting more or less in his afterburner.

Did also only gun's kill.

Singel Player it's working normal it's surprised me, after I did several fights against F-15 and F-14

Well the missile in game is rear aspect only, so there is something wrong.

 

This p5 seems a different animal than the one the f15 was hauling around recently.

This is quite interesting. MiG-21 also had similar issues with R-60M compared to how it performed on Su-25 and MiG-29.

 

Also, often missile can track without giving lock tone in cockpit if fired. I began to think that somewhere the communication between ASM and missile seekers are perhaps getting awry?

 

9P5 seeker performance really feels nothing like 9M currently.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

The AIM-9P5 is all aspect in game. You can verify this by loading the F-15 with them. The bug is in how the F-5 interacts with the missiles.

System specs: i5-10600k (4.9 GHz), RX 6950XT, 32GB DDR4 3200, NVMe SSD, Reverb G2, WinWing Super Libra/Taurus, CH Pro Pedals.

Thanks Chizh, I hope that someone can bring forward more details on Aim-9P /P5 asap.

 

Also, seems like rear/front aspect lock capability is tied to airframe in DCS? R60M is all-aspect on Su-25 but not on Mig21bis or L-39ZA? Aim-9M is all aspect on F-15C but not on the HAWK?
