DayGlow Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Hoping this means Leap hardware well be supported as well. I think hand tracking would be a more eloquent solution then having to pick up a controller. metzger Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 they got those new 360° Motion Platform Chairs..... In the real aircraft if you bank you don't feel it, this is why it's hard flying without visual reference to the ground and only on instruments. This chair looks fancy but it is more like child attraction like a Rollercoaster than anything that can simulate G or realistic feeling at all :) Sent from my Redmi 4 using Tapatalk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Goblin Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I'm not sure why I'd want to use a Touch or Vive controllers in a flight sim. Doesn't make sense. Well, it depends on how well we will be able to control switches and buttons in the cockpit with the controllers... Yes, one would have to let go of the stick or throttle to grab a touch controller to interact with the cockpit. But today I have to let go of controls to grab the mouse or trackball to do the same... I'm thinking of putting some velcro on my controllers and my thighs, so I can place them there when I'm on the HOTAS. Best way would be to just use the hands, of course. And I have no doubt there will be VR gloves in the near future that will allow us to do that. I'm not sure the LeapMotion is good enough for this purpose, just yet.
kunterbunt Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Just noticed today in the 1.5.6 open beta that my oculus touch controllers are visible as black leather gloves. They where located both at the stick, as I was not really using them (they where on because I used them inside oculus software for navigation). They actually currently disturb and it would be good to turn them off. Not sure if they will be interesting for startup procedures. Goblin Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Leap positioning in 3d space is very precise. Ok. I guess they have improved since I tried it last summer. But are they precise enough to register a finger gesture to flick a switch? This is what I see as the hurdle to overcome in VR hand controls, since you can't feel the finger touching the switch. This is why I think a touch controller, with buttons may be the way to go, for now. But if LeapMotion can register my hand and finger pointing at a switch or button, and then register a finger movement that activates that switch, it would definately be superior to using hand controllers. Aren't they working on a new version, BTW?

Aren't they working on a new version, BTW? It's still confused by complex finger motions, but a single finger out for a switch or a thumb and finger for a dial doesn't confuse it. There would still have to be a visual component to flipping switches. Watching videos of Fly Inside you move your finger to a control and once you break a plane close to the control you get a visual indication of the direction of movement. Say you want to throw the APU switch you are looking at it and move your finger towards it. Once you get a certain distance from it you get a visual indication of either flipping it up or down. A lot like how Falcon BMS had the sticky mouse to controls. ${1} Edited February 3, 2017 by DayGlow "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Goblin Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I got the Ultrawings flight game yesterday. You fly with the touch controllers, and it works surprisingly well! Granted, this is much simpler aircraft than we are accustomed with in DCS, but still. I must say that Ultrawings give me hope for touch controllers in flightsims in general. Quite fun game too! :)

How i can turn the touch controllers off in DCS world ? Do you have found a answer ?

I myself do not launch DCS whist Touch controllers are active, after setting them down it only takes a short time for them to go to sleep. If they are not active, DCS will not pick them up. BaD CrC Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Just purchased the touch controllers last week, and I am very impressed by how natural they look and feel in the rift. Being able to grab objects, point in a direction or press buttons is awesome. Before trying them, I though this would be awkward to use them in a cockpit. Now I think this is going to be really interesting. I completely missed that ED started to implement them. This is a great news. There must be a way to build adapters for our joysticks to be able to keep using the touch while having the feeling to hold a stick. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
EntropySG Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I agree touch itself is amazing, the tracking and hand movement feels totally natural. It wont work for me in DCS, because, while flying, my hands are actually below the desk so the touch would lose track, but for non-DCS stuff (robo recall, anyone?) its crazy fun. Oh and ED, I think a simple checkbox to enable or disable the 'experimental' touch support would be great really [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Jim L Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 working Hi! Don't know if I am behind the times but tried the oculus touch controllers with DCSWORLD AT THE WEEKEND AND THEY WERE WORKING. I WAS ABLE TO ACCTUALY FLICK SWITCHES AND THEY WORKED. THANK YOU DCS. Would it be possible to integrate some kind of grasping motion to hold collective/cyclic sticks or to implement the separate small oculus controller which has a type of joystick/gamepad motion on it or even a Bluetooth gamepad.

The new Touch support in 2.5 was in the release notes. :smilewink: It is pretty cool to be able to manipulate switches with them. I am sure there will be more coming down the pike at some point.
