That's a +1 from ED as well... nobody wants it out more than them.

Here's to hoping everyone is put out of their misery soon (it's pretty miserable flying in 1.5, currently, and also quite sad to see so many people putting DCS "on the shelf until 2.5 is out")

I just watched the Su-33 flanker trailer again, man is that Kuznetsov model gorgeous! I cannot wait until we get our hands on all the goodies of 2.5!

Are they actually creating new things for 2.5 like these effects? Or are they done and going through optimization and polishing for release Sith?

Really?

I had a blast the passed couple of nights on the Multiplayer Korea!1952 server.

The challenge of the Su-33 PFM getting clean traps and takeoffs is providing a new challenge.

Always loving the chance to wring-out the Spitfire - delightful!

Turning and burning in amongst the mountains in the F-15.

Playing Wild Weasel with the Warthog.

Trying to avoid VRS in the huey whilst making a troop insertion under fire.

Never really minded the effects personally; nothing stellar but far from awful. Certainly never made any DCS experince I had "miserable".

But apparently that's just me. Glass half full I guess.

It's a little of both. Effects are still on going, not all of them are in yet that I know of. But I think the things that are still holding 2.5 back are considered actual blocks. So its possible we could see 2.5 without all the effects done, but this is all up to ED, most important that when it releases, the transition from the old map to the updated map is the least pain possible as far as missions, campaigns and general play.

I finally bought NTTR the other day and I sure hope that I won't have to re-download the whole map when switching to 2.5. It took me 12 hours to download thanks to my lightning fast 8 meg internet.

wow, I've been waiting for this since I read they were looking to hire an FX guy for explosions. Really impressive! The current system has always been a huge letdown for me. Sucks to show friends how amazing the A-10 is, only to be visually impotent on ordnance delivery.

This is a HUGE improvement. Glad to see ED showing off a bit.

I couldn't agree more, I think destruction levels need to be raised way up to really demonstrate the sheer devastation of these aircraft that we fly.

I really hope we will be able to see a difference between a 500lb and 2000lb bomb now. Also hoping for reworked HE round effects :-)

This all effects etc are for consumers as in military training no one cares about effects as you train for procedure.

But IMHO we still need more variation than those 4 (5?) That still looks to me like dropping 50kg WW2 bombs on a sand beach or overscaled 12,7-30mm cannon impacts. Nothing like 250kg or 500kg bombs in rocks, ground and buildings.

But we are in far better than previously.

While you are very much correct we still need to keep in mind that DCS is for all intents and purposes a consumer product. Even if it is at least partly derivative of TBS.

How is this coming along, can we expect any new treats with the release of 2.5 ?

Say, for example, new bomb effects? :-)

A doubt I do have, I think pertains to this topic regarding explosion effects.

Shouldn't a tanker aircraft explosion be somewhat really big (when it by a missile for instance), visually speaking, as it is supposed to carry a large amount of fuel ?

Not really. Jet fuel is actually pretty difficult "explode". Liquid jet fuel will not explode. It needs to be vaporized and then ignited.
