The Screens arent 8K, they are 8K Horizontal, 4K high, 7680x2160

But the Headset's Input Scalar is accepting a 5K Horizontal Signal, 5120x1440, and Scalling it up 1.5x to that 7680x2160

Equiv to Running Rift at 1.6-1.8 PIxel Density (Different Resolution due to FoV/Display Aspect Ratios).

Hmm, very encouraging. Hopefully by then, NTTR and Normandy will be further optimized. And maybe even 2.5. One can hope. :joystick::thumbup:

Yes, indeed. And if the contact of ED towards the developers of the Pimax leads to support of eye tracking for DCS that would be even more encouraging.;)

i think its funny people are not happy with 200 fov high res screens and good tracking and are asking for more more more.

id be asking for more time and effort put into the production process to avoid the same thing that happened to the oculus dk1 where many people got told the headset would be sent on a certain date then 6 months later they still didn't have it as they were producing them a few 1000 at a time which took them forever. if pimax mass produce to deliver everyone's at the same time they will have the same quality issues as the 4k with dust in it and dodgy cables.

Regarding quality, My pimax 4k worked flawlessly out of the box. However, there is a small hair or fiber in the lower edge of the right lens. It is not noticeable unless you squint and look directly at it, so i am not that bothered. It suggests though, that the unit was assembled in a less than clean room, i expect the new one to be better in this area.

I have also read that screens have gone black for some, due to the way cables are attached, so have been careful not to pull on them.

IIRC, the original 4K didn't have tracking right? You had to use TrackIR?

If the 8K didn't have HTC's tracking, I never would have backed it. Can't wait for this puppy to ship.

the 4K only had rotational axes tracking via IMUs.

which TBH, is still significantly better than TrackIR, in sit down sims (Space, Air, Driving etc)

Just had an evil taught. If Pimax succeed, Apple should buy them in a hurry. They are late to the VR party and have mountains of money.

Nah I think their interest would be more in the mobile VR market, rather than high end PC-VR.

But I would about bet you with the success of the Kickstarter Pimax is hoping for a big company to approach them with a bunch of bucks.

It would be better than TrackIR if it weren’t for the gyro drift in the headset. Had to leave the game to open the pimax software to recenter it every 10 minutes or so. This is an issue with every Pimax 4K made, not just a few of them. Pimax 4K should be called Pimax 8K Ver 0.1 What a POS.

With Driver4VR you can use PSMoveService or Kinect for positional tracking so 6DoF is doable in same way like Freetrack standard for TrackIR.

If your going to do all of that you might as well just use trackir. If you are interested in that setup I have a couple that I put together. I use one of the 3 ps3eye cameras I bought with facetrack now.

I've tried Kinect/PS's of the world. But both (and TrackIR which is admittedly different) pale in comparison to Viv and Oculus tracking. Just not accurate enough, if you ask me. That's why I was so happy that they chose Vive's tracking. I'll have to have that and Rift, but we'll see. First world problem, for sure.

Sde is noticable on this video

When he looks down to the buildings the sde is clearly noticable. Hard to judge from this footage how it is compared to what we have now with rift/vive.

Indeed, they really aren't doing themselves any favours by showing poorly videoed clips through the HMD lenses. They had a video up last week showing a 360 movie on something like bigscreen and the sde was horrid. I commented on it, and it was pulled about 30 minutes later.

More useful would be an indication of the fps they are getting with DCS.

Sure but if it has any shortcomings wouldn't you want to know that upfront as well? Like if it is also going to have an SDE effect?

The Pimax team did say that they are primarily engineers and the like that are not good with PR. I would say that my very long, painful history with engineers would suggest the same.

Personally, I don't care if the PR plan isn't that great just as long as the final product is what they say it is. All the reports and video's I've watched say its the best VR experience to date and I'd imagine nobody but the rivet counters will be disappointed with it.

I do not see any SDE Effect in that video,

I See the Field Frequency Lines because the display and camera operate at a different Hz, that's about it.

Doesnt look like SDE to me, looks like camera interaction with the Fresnel Lenses. I have footage showing an issue I originally had with my Rift and you can see the same thing, but its not SDE.

This.

Same can be seen in videos of the other games that have been tested with the Pimax where the testers said, that SDE is barely/not visible.

Filming the lenses of a VR device is surely not the best way to demonstrate the quality of the glasses and differs from the impression you will get, when wearing the HMD.

It's interesting he put up a demo with prototype 2 "after" prototype 3 has been in the demo circuit for awhile with proper wireless controllers being enjoyed by all. If you want people to consider you observations valid, you would think you would want to at least check current information. Unless it was to give the advice at the end of his video, ahead of the buying season, without coming off like the Grinch. There is a growing understanding that 110fov hmds have an expire date and it's looking to fall in 2018.

Seems to me he demoed the unit that Pimax delivered to him... not sure he can be faulted for that.

His review appeared very fair to me. He highlighted the strong points and spoke about some weak ones.

He certainly did not trash the unit in any way.
