Hi Lunatic98, I sincerely apologise for unintentionally misleading you. As a Brit it is my solemn duty to inject sarcastic humour whenever possible - along with occasional understatement and references to the poor weather. I had hoped that the smiley and the reference to training with live passengers might have given the game away. I can only assume you are an American in which case I sympathise and understand your utter confusion! :-)

To clarify, I would like to genuinely support the suggestion for an unlimited water option to allow for easier VTOL training.

No no no don't apologise, I didn't feel like I was being intentionally misled it's just that my hasty reading coupled with the previous genuine comment made me believe that your reply was genuine, (plus factor in Ovenmit's comment) hence my response (though it would help if I ran comments through my internal psychologist a few times before making my own replies. That is all.

The only thing I don't take too kindly to is solving sarcasm, with sarcasm seasoned with a hint of patronage - though that wasn't you who was doing that.

I do see however that you have perfectly mastered the British apology code of conduct! (I am also a Brit and the realms of spoken word sarcasm are one's I understand completely, not to mention the poor weather).

+1 It's the same story with unlimited fuel and weapons - useful for training over and over again in the same mission, which is a big plus for me as with my entry-mid range PC loading times even for playing the same mission again can be up to 10 minutes and if there's no unlimited option I would just stop trying to VTOL the Harrier because I would get sick and tired of waiting 10 minutes unnecessarily to practice hovering it under conditions where water is more necessary (and from Zeus's comment I have absolutely no idea how RAZBAM intends for us to refill the tank (would that be tied into the fuel?)) - all the more reason to have better ground crew options, maybe extending so that we can fill each tank individually as well as all at once (like FSX).

Plus there are some of us here that aren't real pilots, with limited free time and DCS is a quintessentially a computer game, albeit granted a computer game which allows us to do what we do the best out of other PC flight simulators. But the point remains the same, plus we have difficulty options and even 'game mode' avionics some aircraft. So there's absolutely no reason not to include it at all.

It's funny because in the hotspot detector thread Zeus said and I quote "USMC wants a god-mode sensor" as justification for a god-mode sensor but apparently they don't want unlimited water? I'm not having a go but hopefully you see the point I'm trying to make here.

Water is refilled every time you do a rearm/refuel.

Water is not required 100% of the time. In fact you can do VTO and VL in Caucasus without water.

Nevada on the other hand is a different story due to the base altitude of the terrain, you may use water or not, that is your call and it is based on engine power.

Basically, in any airport at near sea level (or in the Tarawa) you can practice without the need of using water. In high altitude airports the need to use water depends on environmental factors that affect engine power, as well as your aircraft gross weight.

Also, the water system does not work like an off/on switch. Once you enabled it, water may or may not flow depending on engine rpm. So the 90 seconds of continuous water use is quite a lot of time.

Check the engine limitations in the pocket guide and you will also notice that you have a higher probability of damaging the engine through overrevs or overtemp long before the water runs out.

I don't think very many people are grasping the concept that the water isn't needed 100% of the time, or they are very adamant about doing training in Nevada for "realism," which I totally understand. Some times ya just want that immersion.

Okay that's what I needed, thanks Zeus

And just in case, I know water isn't required 100% of the time

...under conditions where water is more necessary...

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

If the water is just there to give the engine some extra 'oomph' when needed you can probably extend the VTOL practice time alot by just running an empty loadout and with limited fuel.

I'm surprised to see you write that - I was watching a display video by a GR7 pilot with an unladen aircraft and you could very clearly see him using the water in his hovers. This in Southern UK.

Or is it a case "you don't have to, but it's SOP"?

$70? Will we get multiple campaigns or something? I just noticed when I went to pre-order.

Not commenting or trying to spark a debate or something on the topic, just wondering from a factual point of view why the unusual cost?

Posted

KC-130 and LHA maybe? If they're released as an asset module people will complain about fragmentation, if the cost of this module is increased people will complain about subsidizing other players. Either way I don't care... I can afford it and the devs will face backlash either way.

Ya ... I just bit the bullet and pre-purchased it even though I can't really afford it. I already have at least 10 other mods I haven't even sat in yet !!

It's an Addiction. I need Help.

I need "DCS Addicts Anonymous".

or "DCS Pre-Purchaser's Anonymous" !!

Looks like a lot of us have this addiction problem, but I consider the planes a bargain, look at all the goodies, and bangs for buck, you could pay just a bit less for some FSX aircraft and still not get to blow anything up

Well I have to admit that blowing S__T up is definitely a bonus.

It's what I get up in the morning for.

I think i am a DCS "generalist"... lots of knowledge of lots of modules, master of none...

Hoping to change this with the Harrier....

However, if they release the F14, F18 i will be bouncing all over the place again ha!

Well I wasn't there, as I was watching it on a video - but it looked pretty mild. Standard UK wx.
