Hope there will also be an improved ATC (Air Traffic Control) with DCS 2.5

 

Since the new ATC has been mentioned by Wags a few times before, but then never mentioned again, I wonder what its status really is. I really hope that the merge to 2.5 will free up more resources to bring us that new ATC. :thumbup:

Lots of expectations ... and no wonder after 2 years of waiting.

 

Curious what we'll get. Afraid of the unexpected errors, bugs, lost features and functionality. Especially the lost features or things "not working anymore". Which will result in errors in the system for the coming decade.

 

Wonder what the 2.5 brings in terms of "value" to flight simulation.

 

Wonder about the stability for system hosters.

 

Wonder about what it will bring in term of increased support and flexibility from the ED team.

 

I have many questions. Being honest here.

I have many questions. Being honest here.

 

Going forward with the one unified version (Bugs and all), has to be better for everyone involved, especially ED's coders. I do hope we can finally move towards some good core stability and direction in DCS moving forward.

Agree w MrDieing..... 'tis a hobby....... I joined the military in '77 bought me first 'puter early '79 APPLE ][+ which I still have... and still grinds away when I flash it up once in a bloo moon...... the first PGM..... subLogics FS1....... we all sat artound and ooooooed n awed.........rush home to "fly" after work...... gathered around that massive 12" -ish Green monitor........ immelman, barrel rolls...... and WTF no STALLs ;-)

I remember that it was about this time last year when we were all coming to terms with not getting 2.5 by Christmas. It was a total bummer for everyone. At that time, no one ever thought that it would be a whole year before we saw it's release. They were speculating sometime mid year then.

I think I'll probably wait to download the new maps until we have a good grip on the ins and outs of it.

None the less......it's great to see it all starting to come together.

None the less......it's great to see it all starting to come together.

 

Because the Original Plan was to simply port the Old DCS Caucasus as is to the T4 Engine, and Label that DCS 2.5.

 

That plan didn't pan out, as there were obvious issues w/ the old Caucasus in the new Engine.

 

Instead Caucasus was Literally re-built from the ground up w/:

-New Higher Resolution Terrain Mesh

-New Higher Resolution Textures

-New Object Textures

-New Airfield Textures

-New Collide-able Trees and Forrest

-New Deferred Shading and PBR Ready Assets.

-Extensions of the Map's Area.

 

And a bunch of under the hood stuff.

 

Caucasus for 2.5 is essentially and simply an entirely new map module, it's a huge Upgrade, some aspects remain, but the main parts have been upgraded.

do guys think Caucasus will be the 'fullest or most detailed' map compared to NTTR and Normandy? Or will it be way better than the old one, but because its derived from the old and due to its sheer size won't be as detailed and high poly as the more recent ones?

New Caucasus / Caucasus 2.5, whatever you want to call it will use all of the technologies and items used in Nevada and Normandy.

All very interesting stuff. ED must have been taking it harder than we on the forums then. At any rate, I feel like we're all on a roller coaster that's just about to the peak of the first drop. If indeed we do get 2.5 in a few weeks, it's gonna be one intense ride. I'm looking forward to it. I know that there will be some great stuff and as is the nature of this software, some disappointments. All I can say is that I have my seat belt fastened, and I'm holding on to the safety bar and looking forward to the ride. Been waitin on this for what seems like eternity.
