Magnanimous Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 https://www.oculus.com/blog/rift-core-20-updates-beta-coming-soon-plus-redesigned-desktop-app-experience/ I am pretty excited about this big update to the Oculus Environment. This does indeed seem exciting! My fear is that because this update is “touch native” we are going to have the continued problem of silly “hands” in and around the cockpit. As it stands now I keep my touch controllers off and put away due to this issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

hansangb Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I don't know if there will be a direct benefit to DCS. The Home improvement (no pun intended) seems about right. MS Odyssey Home is much better than Oculus so there's some catch up there. I'm really hoping that they improved the performance and that will lead to modicum of improvement in DCS. We'll see. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

hansangb Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 That would be cool if it can be hotkey'ed or so it won't be intrusive. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

dburne Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 Hi dburne, Can you explain why you excited? I must miss something here i think. Optimizing?? Well how it all works out of course remains to be seen, but I see it as bringing most everything I need into the headset, rather than having to go back and forth between headset and monitor. It will - should - provide a lot more functionality from within the Oculus experience over what is provided now. Have a look at this introductory vid: Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|

hansangb Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Will this replace things like TriDef VR ? Will we be able to play 2d games in VR? Microsoft has it already. where you can see the entire Windows desktop in VR. Or play 2D games within the VR world. But honestly, I wouldn't. If you're going to play 2D game, it's going to be a better experience on a monitor. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

If you're going to play 2D game, it's going to be a better experience on a monitor. You were able to do this already for a long while with apps like BigScreen for Rift. I don't think that is what is getting people excited here. I think it is the ability to bring in various other things into your current game. Although I don't think that is what this Oculus update is about. Its not all that clear. If its just a desktop in VR then its no big deal.
