2.5 won't be here until end of January maybe February so I'm sure there maybe a small update before then.

We will most likely want to uninstall 1.5 and 2.2 after 2.5 gets installed.

We were recommended to leave 2.2 in place for when 2.5 drops. Apparently 2.5 will copy a number of files from 2.2.

Nothing in there is right, 2.5 will come at the end of January, and ED recommended NOT unistall any previous version of DCS until 2.5 is installed so it can copy files like user configuration, skins... things like that.

That's what their newsletter update said that they recommend uninstalling older versions after 2.5 is done copying stuff over. But yeah we will have to keep 1.5 and 2.0 for the 2.5 installation process. I hope it won't wipe the controls or at least copy them over.

I think I'm gonna make a backup of Saved Games folder just to be safe. I would think if you have 2.2 already the installer wouldn't make a new default saved games/dcs openalpha folder but I'm not sure.

Pretty sure you can lose one of the three versions if you have three installed

Yea it wouldn't hurt to copy your saved games root folder somewhere else until 2.5 is installed and see if anything got changed for the controls. I forgot to do this one time and spent an hour reassigning things to my hotas for every jet I use.

You'd better not uninstall 1.5 nor 2.2 because 2.5 will copy files from them and only will download new Caucasus and related stuff. Probably it will take a lot of time to download the whole 2.5 if you have all theatres, modules and campaigns.

I know that now, edited my post. We keep 1.5 and 2.0 installed until 2.5 is done installing and configuring.

I will very likely have to uninstall both versions of 1.5 that I have, Open Beta and Stable Release. Don't think I will have enough room on my gaming SSD to install the new 2.5 without doing so.

I can leave 2.2 for some file copying, but will delete it once 2.5 is up and running.

I only have one version of 1.5 installed. You can switch between stable and open beta with a command line argument. Probably a good idea keeping stable and open beta on separate storage, I should have done the same. I don't think I noticed any extra storage used when I switched from stable to open beta.

I am having the same concerns about available space on my SSD. As I understand it, 2.5 will arrive in the form of an update to the current 1.5 OpenBeta. It will replace the Cacusus map with the updated one and then pull the files for NTTR and Normandy from your 2.1 OpenAlpha. After 2.5 is set to go, you can then get rid of 2.1 and I don't believe you will have a 1.5 to delete since that will have been transformed into the new 2.5.

I'd sure like to know if my interprutation of the way things are going to happen is correct or not.

Not quite right.

2.5 is a fresh new install copying some files from 2.2. If you want, you can ditch 2.2 after that. Then, 1.5xx beta will be updated to 2.5 beta.

The end result is - you will have a 2.5 release and a 2.5 beta. They need a beta to continue testing for future. You can ditch your release version of 1.5 if you want after as it will cease to be supported.

Well, do we already know how much disk space 2.5 will require ?

I have approx 98 GB left on my SSD, hoping very much it'll be enough ! ( i dont have Normandy, only NTTR)

Thanks for the explanation Catseye but I am still left with a little confusion. When the time comes, will 1.5 OpenBeta be updated by the 2.5 Beta and there will be another download for the 2.5 Release version also??

Sorry, but one last question; will the 2.5 Release version be a completely separate download, or will it come as part of the 2.5 Beta update? I ask because I am pretty sure that my puny little 256 GB SSD won't hold both of them and if I have to choose between the two, I'd rather have the Beta version.

I wish that Wags or someone else from ED would make a post detailing EXACTLY how the update will take place and approximately what the footprint on the hard drive will be. This is causing a great deal of angst, for me anyway, as we get closer to the release of 2.5

Currently 2.0 is the only thing installed on one of my 256gb SSD. It shows 174gb free out of 238gb total. This is with the following modules, f5, f5 bfm campaign, A10c, mirage, viggen, and harrier, and some other misison. This is just dcs 2.0 beta. This drive does not have windows on it at all, just using it for dcs.
